    I have found quite a difference with my aiming and make % when playing on clean surfaces vs the dirty tables / balls in most bar setups. My setup at home is pristine but I always come down a notch when playing league and seem to miss the simple ones. Any tips on aiming thicker / thinner between the two?

      I agree with the previous comments. I don't try to finesse the balls on a bar table. I play a lot of stun/harder shots

    As for the ball polisher, I tried a Harbor freight polisher, or should I say tried 3 of them, They break up. I ended up using a Ryobi buffer with the battery pack harbor freight buffing pad and the 5 gallon bucket with side cut out to reach the power switch and two two by four pieces holding up the handles of the polisher(screwed them to the side of the bucket. Used nylon type carpet on the sides hooked in with velcro and carpet tape. Seems to been working well no plastic parts coming off the polisher. Use Carnuba wax, pea size drop on every ball, run 8 balls at a time. Then when finished I use 409 and paper towels to clean off the buffer pad surface because it gets super grimey.

      I'm thinking about making one with a battery operated buffer. Would be cool to have one that you don't have to plug in

    Good video Josh. Re the felt direction, this is mainly for snooker tables which have a much thicker nap than pool tables and need to be brushed from balk/baulk end to the bottom end. Then ironed ideally with a heavy table iron, again in 1 direction and consistently.

    I use dollar store lint rollers. The stuff doesn't get in the pockets. They are cheap and it seems to make the cloth accept English a little better. I also use a vacuum but it is a handheld small unit.

  • @AdamMarr
    @AdamMarr ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Agree sorta on the X1, if you are brushing and vacuuming and using the cue silk, that is better, but I've found (at least in my exp) using the X1 as intended is better than using a brush by itself. 2. Cue silk is good stuff, been using it for over a year, every month or so. 3, yeah, make yourself a ball polisher as you said in another comment, got a diamond BP about 6 months ago, and polish every week, and it makes a big difference, crazy how much stuff gets on the balls, and then transfers to the cloth, helps keep the cloth cleaner too. keep it up my man

      It seems to me, if you just did a section at a time, you wouldn't need to wet it as much. Spraying the whole table lightly allows the cleaner to dry up, before you get to it.

    Weird question, but why do some pool tables have a quarter nested in between the slate and rail?

    • @Amateur_Pool
      @Amateur_Pool  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a scoring system. Coins start at center diamond. Win a game and move your coin to the next diamond, etc.

  • @nyquil07na38
    @nyquil07na38 ปีที่แล้ว

    So for the rails I use alcohol to dissolve any left over polish and hand oils. I have tried that wax out but it doesn't bring out the shine as good as the pledge. After using like 5 different polishes including the recommended bees wax. Pledge for the win. For cloth woolite and distilled water. Also not a bad idea to open the access doors and put some compressed air down pockets. You will be surprised at what comes out.

    First just wanted to say love watching your videos, only been following for a month or so but I have watched a decent bit of content.
    Also need to say I've only been really playing somewhat seriously for about 3 months or so and before that mainly messed around on a table that my grandfather had as a kid with my brother(who is the person that recently got me into APA)
    Just recently bought a cheap Valley 7FT barbox for my brother and I to practice on so i wanted to know how to properly care for a table so I did a bit of research.
    Few complaints of mine would be i dont see much point in brushing the table and then vacuuming, vacuum should remove the majority of the chalk built up in the cloth and brushing before vacuuming will just cause the ball return to just get more dirty.
    Brushing after vaccuming would make more sense since part of the reason to brush is to get the cloth all the running the same way so the balls roll true(I believe you should always brush in the direction you break from), although probably not much issue with a higher quality cloth like Simmonis.
    Don't recommend putting those bolts with those sharp looking washers on a tightly stretched cloth.
    I know the whole vaccum use can be a bit of a debate but I have no idea why you would actually put your entire vaccum cleaner on the table instead of just buying horsehair vaccum attatchment for the hose of your vaccum and use that specifically for the pool table.(people say the one that comes with a Dyson is the best)Quite cheap and less likely to damamge the cloth.
    I've seen people recommend spray a away foaming glass cleaner on both rails and on the cloth, no experience with it though. I certainly wouldn't spray that wax directly onto the rail, as to not potentially get any on the cloth I'd spray it on a rag first.
    I hope its not the body of that LO that got you temporarily banned from APA you're hiding in the closet 😂. Also I wouldn't mind seeing more of those mic'd up videos, thought the one I saw with Mike(Or Eric?) was pretty entertaining!

    • @Amateur_Pool
      @Amateur_Pool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First - I appreciate you watching. I brush before vacuuming because I'm using the vacuum, without the brushes rotating. Brushing before hand brings all the loose chalk up to the surface so I can suck it up with the vacuum. As for the rest of your critics, I've always done it this way and never had a problem. As for brushing in 1 direction - this is simonis cloth. it's woven so, the one direction thing doesn't really matter (in my opinion). Maybe on some thick bar felt, it would matter. Thanks for the comment!

    • @jmmyjimmy106
      @jmmyjimmy106 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I forgot to mention the biggest thing to help keep your table cleaned would be to keep your balls clean. Specifically I would look into homemade pool ball cleaner(5 gallon bucket, shag carpet and a cheap orbital polisher) will have your balls looking brand new and shiny with minimal effort.

    • @Amateur_Pool
      @Amateur_Pool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jmmyjimmy106 for sure.. i hand clean/ polish them right now. Been thinking about making one of those homeade ball cleaners. I'll make a video on it, if i do. Thanks again!

    I bought the Simonis X-1 a year or two ago, and to be honest, I forgot I had it until this video. I used it a few times when I got it and I could not tell the difference after using it. It was and is a waste of $100. I wish I would have never bought it. You're going to love this, but I bought it because FX Billiards said it worked well. I think he was maybe trying to get Simonis to sponsor him, even tho he already had (has) Predator as a sponsor.

    No need to take the rails of get a horse hair brush extension on you vacuum wond . Vacuum the cloth and rails. The take the X-1 device sold for simonis cloth to clean further. Last step take one part woolite to 10 parts cold water and lightly dampen a microfiber towel and wipe the cloth and rails. Works well for my two diamond tables in my basement.

      @Amateur_Pool Diamond says 13'6" for a 58" cue, but that doesn't account for a back stroke when doing the math. Accounting for backstroke would make it 14-14'6", allowing a 3-6" backstroke.
