Why is it that always we quote another country to describe the beauty of our lands? Kodagu of INDIA sounds so much better!💯 lets create our own identity!
@@freak98753 I do agree with @sakthidon234 that there is no need to compare places in India with the places in the West. Yes Bharat is unique and beautiful (unfortunately as a child I didn't have much opportunity to visit many places), we should enjoy and cherish it as it is. Relative to even some Europeans, one advantage that Indians have is their ability to communicate well in English, this ability along with other technical skills allow us to prosper in this World. Unlike Indians Danes or Germans or other Europeans belonging to advanced economies do not need to seek employment elsewhere, because their motherland can support them. Let us not throw the baby with bath water.
To explain to people who don’t know things …. you would compare it to something slightly familiar to them . Who would you describe eating chicken to a vegetarian? You would say it’s like Soya …. Similarly in those days before the internet and T.V , the Europeans compared Coorg to Scotland because it is the most comparable place in Europe . High mountains , war like natives with beautiful costumes and good pleasant weather . Exactly like Scotland or you could reverse it and say that Scotland is the Coorg of U.K if that makes sense .
Coorg ("Kodagu" as the locals call their land) was a state in its own right, later to ruler (prince or king) of Coorg, opting to join the Indian Union after India's independence. They kept their culture & tradition (& their Kodava language) in tact. After independence when 565 princely states joined India, the states in India were categorised under three lists. Part A consisted of the already-existing British ruled provinces (includes the three presidencies of Bengal, Mumbai & Madras-the largest of states). Part B is the list of princely states either individual (only Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir and Mysore) or clubbed into unions (like PEPSU - Patiala, East Punjab States Union). The third under Part 'C' were administered by Chief Commissioner each & directly under the Central government. Coorg (like Cutch, Manipur or Tripura) was a Part 'C' state. When the states of India were re-organised based on the language spoken there, Coorg (Area: 4108 sq.k.m.; then population: 229,400) was merged in the Kannada speaking "Karnataka" state on 1-11-1956. Coorg is a district in Karnataka. Coorg mainly produces Coffee & honey from its forests. Not only Field Marshall K.C,. Kariappa, but once the chief of Army (8-5-1957 to 7-5-1961), General K.S. Thimmayya was a Coorgi too. Even now many men from Kodagu serve in the Indian Army. Coorg or Kodagu also contributed to the movies of South India - a popular & beautiful heroine, Prema (Neravanda Chetticha Prema).
Indigenous and native culture of Bharat needs to be preserved and passed on to next generations. Let’s all support promotion of indigenous culture and people of Bharat.
