  • The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., carried out a cleanup operation of homeless encampment at Venice Boulevard on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Sanitation workers were donned in white hazardous materials suits as part of the safety protocol for the cleanup. LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) and Urban Alchemy were on site and provided homeless outreach during the cleanup operation.
The operation was prompted by significant health and safety concerns for both the unhoused and the general public, as many of the unhoused individuals had been using the restrooms as living quarters.
There are two separate waste management teams with different roles working in collaboration. City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, wearing the yellow safety vests, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., wearing the orange safety vests. The Clean Harbor team goes in first to sort through the garbage to identify, collect, and segregate the hazardous waste items such as batteries, urine, syringes, etc. Once they finish collecting the Hazardous Waste, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers take over and collect the remaining garbage.
To ensure the safety of all involved, Los Angeles Police Officers were present at the site throughout the cleanup operation. This weekly cleanup activity takes place every Thursday in Venice and is intended to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the area.
The City of Los Angeles has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and the Venice Beach clean-up is just one part of their ongoing efforts. The clean-up not only helps to improve public health and safety but also helps to restore the restrooms to their intended use.
It is important to note that these clean-ups are not a solution to the larger issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles continues to work on implementing long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness and provide resources to those in need.
Overall, the clean-up of homeless encampments on Venice Boulevard is an important step in improving public health and safety, and providing much-needed resources and support to the unhoused individuals in the area. The City of Los Angeles remains committed to addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and will continue to work towards long-term solutions.

Now the city is going to buy some hotels to put up the homeless in OC. With NONE of the essential services like mental health evals, and addiction rehab.
That experiment was tried here in LA Co. And failed miserably.
All people got for their money was trashed hotels, and nowhere else to put the homeless. Most of whom, need to be institutionalized.

I thought they were clearing these encampments out. Seems like this is way more than there used to be, but I haven’t been paying attention to this area. Once there’s shelter space, they need to have the choice to go there or enforce the law and ban them. And start enforcing the drug laws, because 80% of them are using illicit drugs, and or dealing them .

Laws need to be changed and enforced...It may not be against the law to be homeless but laws need to be passed to make it illegal for anyone to set up camp on public streets and sidewalks. There has to come a time when homeless Very Capable Young Men and Women are able to work are Held Accountable for their Actions and Lifestyle. Building and offering free housing will only compound the Homeless problem as it will entice even more young people to Not Have To Work so they can just Live Freely and Party With No Responsibilities. Those who are disabled can get help through DHS. The Mentally Ill need to be In institutions where they can get help and the care they need as with the elderly. More and more Young working class that are physically and mentally capable of working are just feeding off the homeless situation and those are the ones that need to be held accountable and forced off the public streets or arrested, The only solution to homelessness is to Pass laws to make camping in public view, on public grounds Illegal and enforce it.

We need to provide medical and mental health services to the one's in need. And lastly I hope the city's evasive action goes further than capturing the footage on to the tube, and at minimum do a thorough massive cleaning on all sites, period! Homeless people shouldn't be allowed to have pets as they cannot take care of themselves, they obviously cannot take proper care of a pet, whether it be feeding it properly, taking it to the vet when needed or even to get it licensed/registered. The dogs/cats or others animals do not need to suffer due to their ignorrance.

Hope those workers engaged to do the clean up are extremely well paid. A revolting job. Such waste of time seriously. In 24 hr same rubbish will be back.

Nobody feels sorry for these homeless people. They don’t want help. There’s shelters and programs to help them get on their feet but they refuse the help because they don’t want to follow rules.

Homeless Bill of Rights: I don't do much. I'm too drugged. That's my problem. Hang around sidewalk watching you, Just too lazy and druged I realized this the other day, I get hit by a truck tomorrow - a big truck could hit me - paralyze me from the neck down. Wouldn't effect my lifestyle a bit really.

This area remains one of the worst in the area. Think there may be rats all over. Hmm, not sure that is a right, to have rats invade the neighborhood cuz of a filthy area. Slowly let the word go out that can't do this any longer. It will sink in, Freund says. Wanton disregard for the other people that live around there. Clean it up and move the people on for good.
