    I've been gigging with this tank for 8 years. Here are some tips:
    1 don't use factory presets use manual section and you'll have the entire BOSS pedalboard catalog.
    2 don't do the dummy plug in rec out trick, just don't.
    3 this is high end gear so pair it with high end gear especially a good amp
    4 don't use pre amp section on the board if you're using a real amp.
    5 don't drop it on your foot.
    6 keep all knops on 12 as the parameters are too wide and the makers of this unit made 12 o'clock the optimal setting.
    7 don't lose the adapter
    8 if your playing sucks, this unit will make it very apparent. Just like a high end tube amp will.
    9think of and use this unit as a bunch of boss stomp boxes.
    10 use this for recording into DAW too , the midi out is superb.

      I've been a seperate pedal user for years and just bought a used ME-80 for $150. Gotta tell you, your list is right on.
      The mannual is easy to understand. The unit sounds really good plugged into the loop of a couple of my amps and the effects are great. My biggest problem so far is making patches and keeping volumes between the patches balanced for use.

      Hi! Can I set a bunch of my own presets for my bands setlist and scroll through them on the fly in memory mode? Also, could I plug directly into the desk at a gig if I use a pre-amp setting?
      Sorry for the questions but I'm trying to simplify my rig for gigging and got rid of all my pedals. Also wanting to gig without an amp if possible and heard this was possible. Thanks. :)

    Put a dummy plug in the headphone jack. You'll see the cab sim function then works. Sounds much better as it's designed to be used. It's in the manual and many over look it and send it back. Awesome review. I have one on the way. Gifted from fellow TH-camr. I'm dying to try the freeze.

    Cheers mate, just picked up my ME-80 on 05/09/2024 for $185 USD and Im completely in Love. I currently own a slew over 20 Boss Multi effect pedals Starting of with my ME collection ME4,5,6,7,8,10, 20,30 newer ME editions 50,70, just picked up the ME 80 and also i have the ME90 too but Sir i love my ME-80 over my ME-90 use both in conjunction together and wow.. thanks for this Video. It really shows you know this pedal unit like i know my GT series i mastered manually without reading much common sense and all my Boss Multi effect units sound super awesome over my Digitech,Korg ToneWorks ,MyVox and Zooms as well. I own over 93 different Floor and rack Units even including Rocktron TC Electronics etc. Even vitage Roland GP8,and GP16 and the ME 80 and 90 gets used more.

  • @accentontheoff

    Wow, finally, a tutorial for the M80 that isn’t several years old. In case you don’t mind answering two questions… 1. How do you find the quality of sounds to be on this device, esp. when compared to newer units like the GT1, and considering that it’s a 7 year old device (not sure if it gets quality updates via firmware). 2. Does the lack of choices in cabinet sims bother you, esp when you record into a computer, and what’s your workaround - in fact how do you go into a computer.Thats it. Do reply, you would be helping me with a very tough decision. Thanks for posting! Loved the flying Stein.

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, yes, the knob per function is really great, saves loads of time, I think the quality is good, I’m also not too bothered about the lack of choice were the cab sims are concerned.
      It’s also super easy to use, you can pretty much get close to any tone you like with a little effort.
      I’m not a guitarist, as you can probably tell, I mainly use it for processing synths and keys, so for me it’s perfect.
      And although the reverb is pretty basic it does sound really good.
      My only con is that it only has a mono input, not a problem for guitars and mono synths though.
      It does have stereo out though.
      To sum up, it has pretty much all the classic boss pedals in one box.
      Knop per function is awesome, sound is great too.
      I don’t use the ODs enough to give an honest opinion, but they sound good to me.
      Combine this with a few other pedals, maybe a better reverb and your golden.

    • @accentontheoff
      @accentontheoff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSoundTestRoom Hey thanks very much for the detailed reply. Yes the knob function makes it seem awesome. Just that I plan to record a lot and hence the cab sims might be necessary. They do have hardware solutions for that though. Anyways, will go and figure it out now. Cheers.

    Nice walk through. I really love the Boss ME-80, but I wasn't using it much since I bought it over a year ago. ;-) I needed this kind of quick tutorial to get a nice grasp of what to do. I was just using the factory presets. hahahahaha - Now I can go back to playing with it, tweaking it and setting my own User Presets. ;-) I guess I should have read the manual. ;-)

  • @barnettg66

    It has a major drawback compared to truly digital pedals with a graphical depiction: Whatever settings you have in a patch are not reflected in the knob settings on the board itself. So if you want to edit a patch, you have no idea whatever what the knob settings were when it was created. I had this board and got frustrated with it fairly quickly. Then I got a cheap Zoom (the little one with the pedal volume control $100 bucks maybe, new) and it blows the ME-80 out of the water in every way. Super easy to use and great sound. No frustration.

    It would be nice when people demo these pedals if they would actually play part of a song and tweak the sounds to try and mimic the recording like the song was originally recorded. That would be a better demo than just making noise on the guitar, it's not a good representation of what this pedal actually can sound like . Otherwise it's a good demo
