We can’t buy just the module for those motors anymore here. Anyway the replacement rescue motors are about the same price as the oem module. As long as it’s out of warranty we replace with the rescue motor.
Never fails soon as it gets really cold out it’s just package units and heat pumps. It was 32 here this morning my first job was a package unit with an intermittent short fun fun.
As a new installer on his first year enduring his first summer in Louisiana, I really appreciate your videos so I can become a technician as soon as possible. (I still love installs though) ❤
Come on out to the northern states, Curtis!! You don't know what cold is. Here in the high desert of Central Oregon we start late in the winter and we start early in the summer.
Strange engineering on that blower assembly. The strip heat section is held to the blower by what looks like 1/4" bolts yet the entire blower assembly is held to the cabinet by just regular little sheet metal screws.
Well it came apart easy and in the cold that’s wonderful lol. 28 degrees here right now and dropping. How’s Riley doing ? Was those ant buildups fire ants? If not they were trying to be building inside a heat pump😅. Now warm up and enjoy the evening
46 in the morning here in southern California and 72 during the day, 20 is cold, time for you to get the thermos out. Have an awesome day and stay warm. We enjoy your videos
Im from Michigan, but grew up in North Carolina, you guys dont know what cold is 😁 But in all seriousness, 37f if you arent dressed right is VERY uncomfortable, I miss the southern heat.
Cold, haven't had cold in the south for decades. 1/16/23 was 19 degree. Harbor freight has some nice gear wrench. Socket sets, you should check it out, you might find a lot of stuff you can use. I see HVAC guys in there just about ever time I go in.
great vid, thanks. i'm a Test technician for HVAC for rail cars - far from knowing everything. I was an electrician for 8 years and have been Test for almost 1 year - so your videos are nice to watch in afternoons are great food for thought. I work with scroll and reciprocating compressors. Grand air doesn’t give a 5 year warranty on commercial? You said July of 2019 I thought, not sure, back when I was in it they gave 5 year commercial, 10 years residential if it was registered
@@ThomasWalker-m2y he said commercial in the video, most church hvac units run full time, that small one probably not, still commercial in mfg guidelines was what they used to say, I’m not sure these days, I’m not in that field anymore
Not sure about Georgia, but zone classifications are wierd here in Florida. Apartments and condos are considered commercial for permitting purposes. Same with churches.
@@keithharris9749 for sure, I’m in Florida, most manufacturers even recognize rental properties as commercial as well, even they have a five year warranty
Depends on where you are but the ECM controller (module as he calls it) and combo motor+controller is almost the same price. But you save time by replacing just the controller. The actual motor rarely fails.
I really,Ike to carry the crescent 3/8” drive pass through adjustable wrench set, I also think your truck is nice and well kept. Happy New Year, stay well.
I like the ingenuity of the installers to bury the P trap and then bring it back above ground level to drain. Donate your labour Curtis and take the tax credit. It’s a win win for both you and the church.👍👍🇨🇦
Plus or minus 10% of the nominal is standard across North America. On a 240 it can go as high as 264 or as low as 216 before the utility needs to change the taps on a transformer. I see voltages up to 520 at my job and our nominal is 480. Few months ago outside machine techs had me change taps on a transformer because they required +/- 5% on their machines.
About the cost of the motor, if it is your company you can set the price what ever you want. Donate the time and motor charge them nothing and write it off in taxes at the end of the year. I've done that many times.
Why does the two Ohms reading differ from each other when you checked the motor? Would it have been the position and force applied to the leads in the connection?
My understanding of this is metal expands and contracts with temperature change which alters resistance of the windings. Warmer results in less resistance vs colder with more resistance. Having it in the cold air would've caused the windings to chill (especially considering the module was no longer insulating it) resulting in a higher resistance the second time around.
Package unit just refers to it not being split. It's all enclosed within 1 cabinet. Whether it's straight cool, heat pump, or gas, it's still a package unit
Do HVAC techs use adjustable wrenches because it takes longer, and they work by the hour? The difference in time it would take to use a Millwaukee battery ratchet with a set of 1/4 inch drive sockets would be significant. And those dumb assed square head shaft bolts instead of a stainless socket head cap screw with blue loctite. Geeez! Give me a break!
That's like saying we should go back to brushed power tools, not going to happen. They just need to figure out the reliability of the control module, like maybe don't mount it directly onto the motor would be a good idea to start. Veriable frequency drives have been around a long time and are very reliable. Just my two cents.
ECM means Excessive Cash Module motor. Cold too in coastal East Florida, around Vero; 57 degrees this morning. 😎
L o L 😊😊😊
A nice repair Curtis, now the church followers will be nice n warm for next Sundays service 🙏 Au
The old motors were not as energy efficent but cost around 125.00. The moduls do not last long.Too sensitive.
$600 for a new one, the thing must be made out of gold.
First one, I've seen heat strip on blower housing
I said that same thing when I seen that
Maybe the reason why he's replacing the blower motor, that heat strip is cooking the blower

I'm in La. myself, I bet you were busy with all the record breaking heat this past summer.
I feel like you get so many bad ecm motors it’s crazyyy
I do heavy commercial in the Tampa area and 37 during the day is freezing for us southern techs. I feel ya brother!
Curtis , where is your young puppy ?
Was 45 this morning in ocala Florida. BRRRRRRR

You don't have to program these motors? What about adding a surge protector.
So cold in Georgia . . . . oh you sweet summer child 😂

Saturday 9 Dec it was 42.5c (108-109F) at my place.

Yea the woman in the south are much hotter than Northern girls.
Washers then the set screw, I was cringing, for a bit! But you got it!!
We were in the 20's up hear in s.w. lower Michigan this morning. Felt a bit chilly. Winters not here yet. ☃️😎
I remember a repair kit for the ECM module. Don't even see that anymore. Must be scarce...

A church isn't really commercial, most only use it on Wednesday and Saturday.

You’re right about being cold 31 in Marietta this morning lol
Here in Arizona those units would come with a 5 year warranty. That motor should have been under warranty if the unit is from 2019.

I love your videos. I know it takes a lot to put them out. Why do you not invest in a socket set? Might be a bit easier. Keep up the great work.
If you measured it twice and got different numbers both times how do you know you were getting an accurate measurement of the motor windings?
Great job 👍
Thanks 👍
Dang, Curtis….you have a sub woofer in that van lol
How did you not have to rewire anything since the old motor was 3Phase and this one was 115v-230v?!?!?!
Module changes it from single phase
@@HVACGUY Awesome man! Had no idea the ECM was capable of this
Actually, the ecm module generates a modulated dc pulse and varies frequency to enable variable fan speeds depending on load
Ants in the pants. 🐜🐜🐜🐜
I would be concerned about the 251 voltage to the motor. Maybe power going to the unit is burning up the motors because it too high.

Was wondering, what do you do with your old motors? I save them up and then take them to the scrap yard, can get a couple bucks a motor.
I always change the motor and module just as a just in case.

Didn't think about that, thanks!
Always keep extra Jean , socks and jacket in van .
How does it know what direction to run?
Does having the heat strip on the input side of the fan cause any motor heat problems?
No, those blowers have 2 inlets (one on each side), and the motor is on a different one than the heat strips.
It is a Church, you should not charge for your time. Or charge a whole less for it.
Hi, is this a commercial heat pump? This is not a "packaged unit"?
Package unit just refers to it not being split. It's all enclosed within 1 cabinet. Whether it's straight cool, heat pump, or gas, it's still a package unit
high voltage kills those things

ECM motors are not made for prime time, too many failures. Stick with PSC.
Capacitors are cheaper than modules. Lol

Wow! Why didn't they just pray for god to turn on the heat. That would be a simple request for that big guy in the shy.
