It seems like Lindberg had some issue with the cowl on the original release. They retooled and re-released and the way you can tell the difference is the white background on the original box is lighter than the white on the re-released kit. Sorry but don't remember all the exact details.

The hood didn’t have insulation, that’s just how the metal was formed on the hood of lots of old cars👍
