As a white person videos like this are so interesting. For probably most people with my hair type (straight/wavy depending on various factors), hair is only rarely a communal thing, especially in adulthood. But just like you took a long time taking those braids out and had help doing it, I'm guessing braiding them took at least just as long and you did not do it all yourself I'm guessing this helps build a unique culture and community feel around hair I know not every Black person will wear braids, but many do or they might have another style that takes work/help. There's just so much that's different. It's not my culture and that's okay. I just think it's interesting/cool!

YES!! Hair braiding, twisting, locking, sewing, and straightening is a big deal in our community because it takes a long time to do, has roots in religion & tradition, and has been used to create maps to get out slave states.

I can brush my hair and I’ll look like a poodle (my curly hair just blows up), but Incan decide not to brush my hair and just put an ugly bun in and it just fine, or if I don’t do anything it’s okay too. But this is different, you have to do something with it, to make it at least look ‘ok’, and than it comes to a point, you already put so much time into it that just ‘ok’ is not okay anymore, it has to be decent, perfect, presentable.
