      In the summer time at the North jetty of Bolivar side pack a ho ho lot of mosquito repellent. Back in the 80s-90s my friends use to do overnight fishing close to the boat cut. It was hell going there and coming back. I don't know if they still have overnight fishing out there but you'll get all types of fish especially if you bring along a chum canister that helps. Only draw backs are the mosquitoes they are notorious bring a raincoat, hoodie, light gloves and anything to protect your face. If you have access to nigh vision goggles or infrared it helps allot back then we didn't have all the fancy equipment we utilize what we had rods, cooler, food, flashlight or kerosene lamp. Good luck out there and stay safe.

      oh man, I've made the trip to about halfway to the cut, the fishing is insane, but that trip is super risky. Have you walked the South jetty? That's even riskier. To think i use to make those trips on foot, wow lol. That's for the tips, especially the spray.

    • @jstrom3007
      @jstrom3007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had better knees a long time ago but I've fished in heavy rain and high waves out in the South Jetties, it's extremely scary it's like you're constantly watching where the waves break and how quick you can dodge a wave impact and at the same time fish. There were times in heading back to shore me and my friends had to duck between the rocks for cover when lighting strikes on the jetties. The older fishermen were out there with their 10ft rods Fenwick's, Penn's and Garcia's these men weren't playing around when it came to equipment, I think their bones were made of steel. Every time I've seen a wave crash over them they would disappear for a couple of seconds then appear again from the rocks. I'm 6ft tall and when the first wave washed over me and put into the rocks, I didn't think twice God told me it's time to back in.

    I went back two years on the comments and the two things I'd add are: Check the weather and be prepared. The second and most important to me is PREPARE your ATTITUDE. Jetty fishing is one of the more hostile fishing environments you can go into. Ever watch Deadliest Catch? Yeah, THAT! You're gonna break off, you're gonna hang up, you're gonna come home with some bruises or abrasions and If you are short tempered like me, psyche your self up for some tough going. Fuel up, empty out and travel light. And, don't drag along someone you know will hate it. They'll ruin it for everyone.

    I love your videos! You remind me of me when I was younger! I fished the surf, piers, and jetties almost all my life until I started fly fishing. I still fish the jetties though, but with a fly! In 2001 I caught 3 ling on the Surfside Jetty in one day. The biggest one was a 70 lber. You may have seen the pic floating around the web as people have told me they have seen it. I caught another mid sized ling a few years later. On the day I caught the 3, I was a little more than half way down. No one at the end turned a click. As I was leaving, these guys walked up from the end and took my spot. I also gave them my left over bait (fresh shad). One of those guys caught one about 50 lbs after I left! I think I happened to be on a bar they were on. The Florida guys told me they will often see them on the bars. I have also caught several kings there as well. Anyway! Keep up the good videos!

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, you're Andrew Jones! Yea, you caught a couple that day! I read about it on Texas shark fishing forum. I have been trying to figure that out for a long time. I have looked at sst maps, chlorophyll charts, swells, gulf current, and I still can't figure it out lol! I have been trying to form some sort of set pattern to see when ling come in that close, but since they're super rare, I can't exacrly.figure out the conditions when someone catches one. It is definitely an extremely grey area for land based anglers. One day lol. Apparently the time is now.

    • @andrewsflyfishing9578
      @andrewsflyfishing9578 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sure don't have it down either but with the ones I caught, I have seen a pattern.. That is you have to be in the right spot. As I said before, someone took my spot as I left on the day of the 3 and they caught a 50 lber. On the day I caught the last one, I saw someone catch one and I took his spot after he left and caught one. That one was closer to the end. Also, Spring time and good water is in the mix as well. Wow! Texas Shark Fishing! I just spoke with BeachBum about a week ago and he lives in Oklahoma. Look me up on Facebook and friend request me!

    FIND A LOCAL TO HELP... I'm from West Virginia and fished some jetties around St Augustine FL. This jetty was three miles long I think. The rocks were MASSIVE. Everything was sharp. I went out as far as I could, about a half mile....I WAS ALONE! NO KNOWLEDGE, parked the truck on the beach away from the water as far as I could and gave it hell. Sketchy, but VERY COOL! EXTREME DANGER! I came in when I saw police lights, it was all good.

    Ponce Inlet Jetty all the time here near Daytona. Don't forget that most species go straight into the rocks when they hit. I find using 50lb braid with a long 40lb mono leader best. You have to keep them out of the rocks very fast.

    I stumbled on your site a few days ago and have watched all you videos, I could find. I have had a boat all my life but, sold my boat. Have been having a sinking spell. Approaching 70 so have now decided to pick up surf fishing. Love the video w the crabs from Fiesta. Simple, what size circle hook & brand for those BAD BOYS? Also see you like the spider weight over the pyramid? Why? Please advise leader weight & length? Picked all you top 5 BAITS yesterday, most of which I already have. Got a friend in Costa Rica on the beach so going there in a few weeks to fish the surf. Taking Shimano TIRALEJO 9'6" Surf rod w Shimano High Speed 5500 ULTEGRA CI4+ reel setup. Looking to catch rooster & snook plus cubera snapper. Have been BINGING on your UTUBE & refreshing all my gear getting setup. Need a crash course on surf fishing! Excited w your passion for surf fishing & bringing your followers up to speed to fish on a HIGH LEVEL! Thanks

    I was fishing the Jetties in Little River NC (by boat) for first time this past week. I swear I had 5 large fish break my knots right at my hook. I was using 20 lb fluorocarbon. What is your technique for putting big fish back into the water at the jetty? I have been wondering this because it looks really difficult and dangerous to properly release a big fish. I would assume a person would have to get close to the water, thus on the slippery rocks, to get a big fish back in the water. Let me know.

    By far, absolutely, bar non the best and safest footwear on wet rock is felt bottom wader shoes. This of course does not mean wear waders out there. But the felt bottom shoes will give your feet grip on rock unlike anything else.

I was thinking just today about wearing an older pair of golf shoes because i know how slippery the rocks get. but i thought that people would look at me and say "look at this goober with the golf shoes" lol. But hey if it works right. I do have a question, I've been fishing for years and love it but im the first to admit that i am not good at it. Now i just purchased a inexpensive spinning reel an Abu Garcia Silver max SP40 and loaded it with only 10lb mono, should i use stronger line? What line weight do you recommend? should i go with braided? and should i always go with the reel manufactures line recommendations? Sorry thats more than one question lol. Thanks alot.

    Dude thanks for the video. I'm heading down in September for my first jetty fishing experience (off the actual jetty) and I'm so excited to fish it. I'm going to get a couple of those spoons in the video for my heavy action 7.5 uglystik bass rod to throw and probably use my two cheap surf rods with double leaders and shrimp or something. Any recommendations on cheap tackle that just works? I see people using gulp but I have no idea. Any help greatly appreciated from uploader or commenters. 🎣🎣🐟🐟

    Could you do a video on all your terminal tackle rigging. Complete finished setups. Applications using artificials, live bait. Including, hooks weights, beads & leaders. Thanks

    Down in the Florida Keys they piers that are jetty’s. Am I to treat it like it’s a pier ? This may be a stupid question but I’ve fished private piers before but we’re staying at a different place since hurricane Irma destroyed my timeshare in islamorada. My initial idea was that there may be grouper living under jetty. Any thoughts? Thanks 🎣

    Damn the ones yall fish off look all nice and flat...ones near me are just huge piles of uneven rocks with gaps you could just fall through if you miss your hop and there tall to so you gotta climb down a bit to get a nice spot to fish from when the tides lower but also means a nasty fall if ya mistep...ive got a pretty good head scar from falling as a kid at one

    Would 30lb braid work for bait soaking rods? I saw you mention 50lb with atleast 300yd capacity.
    Edit:
    Would a surf rod work on the jetties? Like a 12ft? It should I keep the 12ft for the surf and a 9-10ft for the jetties?

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can, but it is much more prone to line damage from the sand.

    • @DucksYellQuack
      @DucksYellQuack 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beach Bomber Fishing gotcha! What about rod length?

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would set use up to 9ft for the jetties, but if you are chunking big heavy baits, you would have to go with something up to 12 ft.

    • @DucksYellQuack
      @DucksYellQuack 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beach Bomber Fishing why do you want something longer for heavier baits? Just curious

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      get more distance, and because most heavy bait surf rods are 10ft or longer, unless you get a custom built rod.

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weight ranges from 1oz to 3oz. I use 1oz from the surf, 2 and 3 oz at the jetties when the wind is heavy, or when i need to fish gje very bottom.

    Wearing a pair of socks over your shoes can provide some traction on the wet rocks. It's similar to using a rag to open a jar with a stuck lid or wearing felt bottom wading shoes. Just remember if you try it to put socks OVER your shoes!!! DON"T go out on the jetties to fish with just a pair of socks on!!!

    Do you need a different rod for lures and bait? Like if I get a Daiwa Coastal SP Surf rod is there any disadvantages to using it for bait as well as lures?

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are differences, the weight the rod can handle. Bait rods are much more stronger than lure rods.

    You think a penn pursuit 4000 the 2 and a okuma longitude 9 foot would a elite combo for the jetty for a beginner you think that can handle kings and reds?

    • @BeachBomberFishing
      @BeachBomberFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it should handle for sure. The pursuits tend to break down after a year of hard use.

      thanks for the response, I got a question about transporting your 11' and 12' rods to the beach in a car, I see you're in a car sometimes, do you just carefully break it apart with line through the eye holes and your set up already done? or do you have to restring and tie everyhing once you get there... Im kinda new to fishing

    • @BeachBomberFishing
