Most certainly enjoyed the video and your appreciation of bodybuilding history! As a history buff myself, in truth the under 200 pound bodybuilder won the Mr. Olympia contests stretching from 1976 through 1983. Only Arnold’s win In 1980 was the only exception to the entire 8 year period. It is said that 1983‘s winner Samir Bannout, weighed 198 pounds. Franco won in 1981, and Chris Dickerson won in 1982 (both in the 180s). And as you mentioned, Frank Zane won his titles ‘77 - ‘79
From 1976-1983, every Mr. Olympia was under 200 lbs except Arnold in 1980. To get an idea of the tilt over time towards mass, in 1983, the winner was 185 lbs and the runner-up was 160 lbs; but in 2003, the winner was 287 lbs with a 260 lb runner-up, and they repeated those placings in 2004 with each about 10 lbs heavier.
Nick can you do a video on Serge Nubret? there's a lot of interesting stuff on him from his diet to competition controversies and even his death. He looked incredible to the day he died
ah ok, just watched it. nick didnt mention some of the more interesting parts of Serge though, such as his diet where he supposedly ate once a day for a long time. Or his training which was Extreme volume. And his death he just said natural causes, but there is a lot more mystery to it. He also founded WABBA not simply competed in it. He was still posing in his 60s, etcetc
NICK- if you google it the BIG argument Mike Mentzer and Arnold had at the 1980 Olympia was that Arnold stood up at the Competitor's meeting with Ben Weider and asked for the Short & Tall categories to be re-instated, as that is how he would always win against the "shorter/under 200lb" class. Mike Mentzer and Boyer Coe both said no, then Arnold reacted by saying "Mike we all know you lost against Frank Zane as your stomach was sticking out". A fist fight was narrowly stopped by Ben Weider!
He's known for being able to put on a lot of size very quickly (he can almost get twice as big by eating just one mushroom) but his conditioning has always been way off
Sabih Bin Masood Big Lou was offered a lucrative tv contract to play The Incredible Hulk TV show. I personally can’t blame him for accepting it, for it became very successful for 4 seasons
a YT video of the 81 Olympia is erroneously labeled as 76. The signifigance of the 1976 Olympia was the surreal transformation of Frank Zane. After being flat in 75, and left out of the Pumping Iron documentary, he was forgotten about. This worked to his advantage. After this showing, where he came in ripped to shreds, he was taken seriously, and it laid the platform for his 3 consecutive wins.
I think the reason for why there was no weight class for the 1980 Olympia was related to Arnold's failed attempt to create a tall man and short man categories where he had the famous confrontation with Mentzer.. Arnold probably got Ben Weider to scrap the weight categories....just a hunch.☺
I read, that at the 1980 Olympia, with the competitors still reeling from Arnold's surprise entry, they were trying to decide whether or not to have the under & over 200 divisions, or just do away with them altogether. Well, every competitor voted to do away with them.........except one hold out, Arnold. But he said he only held out because it pissed everyone off so much, especially Mike Mentzer. Arnold and his psych out shenanigans.
Also it was the year that Arnold promoted the Mr. Olympia with Jim Lorimer, and the event took place in Columbus, Ohio which would later be home to the Arnold Classic.
There was tv coverage of the 1975 Mr. Olympia by "Wide World of Sports." Is there anyway you can get those tapes? Was there tv coverage of the "74 and '76 Olympias?
Nick, love Your Videos! I have a few Questions .. if Lue would have competed how do You think the contest would have went? also My two favorite Body Builders The Barbarian Brothers back in the Day said they were going to compete in the Olympia what happened that they never did? also why is it that You cant find any photos of them posing? or competition pics? lastly how about a video of the cycles these Guys did from then to the modern cycles.
Jason Blaha said that he has more muscle mass than serge nubret. That gives him more or less the second place at the 1975 mr olympia. I would even go so far to give him first place, cause has ptsd, inner ear problems, heart failure, lactose intolarance etc
Actually Arnold was very much against having the one class and was arguing to keep it in that very same to class format. Mike mentzer and him had a very heated argument about it backstage almost resulting in a fist fight. Or The Story Goes...
If Sergio Oliva came back to the IFBB in 1976 he would have smoked Franco, Waller & Zane. He beat Robby and Bill Grant in other head-to-head contests during the same post-Arnold era of 1976-1981.
Hey nick please do a video on Edgard John augustin the guy does bodybuilding and doesn’t have his real legs from knee down their bionic he looks great it’s motivating still doesn’t miss leg day haha
Love that shot at 55 secs. How can anyone with eyes not see that Ferrignos physique is superior. Arnold looks like his little brother. P.s. Mentzer won the 80 olympia
Hey Man, can you make a video about the REAL most conditioned Dorian Yates? At the 1996 German Grand Prix. Many believe its the 1993 mr Olympia, but I think he was a tad bit drier and more conditioned in the German Grand Prix 3 years later
Yo u should really do a video on tameav asxab he’s a 16 year old from Chechen with a 20 inch neck and is swole asf, they have a kinda viral vid bout him with over 2 mil views. You should talk bout if you think he’s natural and his Physique
One think that strikes me about old contest photos is the relaxed pose. In the old contest the relaxed pose looks well, relaxed. I know they are flexed a bit. But now in the relaxed pose all of the contestants look like they are trying to hold in a fart.
I think that all the bodybuilders from the 70s looked alot better than the bodybuilders today.
Nick's Olympias and Absences
Could a Bodybuilder have been Mark Wahlberg?
Strength's Nick and Power bruh lmao 😂😂don't ever stop
Haha, I'm waiting for that video for eternity.

The first Mr. Olympia without Arnold Schwarzenegger would be 1965
Nick can you do a video on Serge Nubret? there's a lot of interesting stuff on him from his diet to competition controversies and even his death. He looked incredible to the day he died
Alexander Matchett he did. "The black panther"
Alexander Matchett Seems to be quite a lot of mystery around his death
Alexander Matchett Seems to be quite a lot of mystery around his death
He already has one

1976 Franco was incredible
The year bodybuilding lost a champion. RIP Arnold's early 70's legendary physique
Could Super Mario have been a bodybuilder?
He's known for being able to put on a lot of size very quickly (he can almost get twice as big by eating just one mushroom) but his conditioning has always been way off
Lou Ferigno should've kept competing
Sabih Bin Masood Big Lou was offered a lucrative tv contract to play The Incredible Hulk TV show. I personally can’t blame him for accepting it, for it became very successful for 4 seasons
Franco Columbu is Arnold's ugly girlfriend
2:24 someone is lost his nipple here
3:13 Arnold came in makeup just from T-1 set
Mike Katz used to run the gym I went to in college. I knew his son too... Both good people!
I met Mike Katz when he guest posed at a contest in the early 80s. He is a hell of a nice guy, very intelligent , friendly and humble.
Never seen these pics from the 76 Olympia. Always tried to find footage from the 76 Olympia but could never find any.
Me too

love your videos, thank you
Frank just looks amazing!!!!!
Could Goku have been a bodybuilder?
Love your channel!
Solid new intro like that, Nick’s Intros and Aesthetics
Could Serge Nubret have been a Classic Physique Champion...? Hell yes
Olympia without Arnold is like TH-cam without Nick's Strength and Power.
Wouldn't 1965 have been the first Olympia without Arnold..?
1:28 you added the names to each competitor, that's awesome!!
Diggin the new intro Nick!!!
do a "the most dominating mr.olympia line up of all time"
I read, that at the 1980 Olympia, with the competitors still reeling from Arnold's surprise entry, they were trying to decide whether or not to have the under & over 200 divisions, or just do away with them altogether. Franco had a great vertical leap on stage!
I know I’ve told this to you before... but you have BY FAR, the best bodybuilding channel on the net.
First Olympia after Arnold, not the first Olympia without him.
First Olympia *After* Arnold Retired
Good one Nick, I really dig these history lessons. ..................................PEACE!!
Nick, love Your Videos! Nick's and Lui Marco's channels are my fav
Zane was just shredded. Thin and fucking shredded. It looked great
A new intro!!! Yet I like the old one.
Actually Arnold was very much against having the one class and was arguing to keep it in that very same to class format. Mike mentzer and him had a very heated argument about it backstage almost resulting in a fist fight. Or The Story Goes...
gchmilowsky And Arnold was right about it. Because the smaller Bodybuilders would have more Chance at the Olympia.
Look at how Mike Katz hit that front lat spread at 2:00 looks scary
Great video Nick educational and knowledgeable THE GOLDEN AREA!💪💪💪
Nick, you are a emerging bodybuilding historian.
1965,1966,1967,1968: The First Olympia's without Arnold******
Love the new intro
Man, that Super Thin Waste Line on Frank Zane is Insane!
Could Mike Katz found his t-shirt?
*Roger Callard* looked plain amazing!
Like Steve Reeves it should be a crime to be as good looking as Roger Callard.
Mr Olympia without Arnold in the 70s is like a kingdom with its king
Without it's king?
That's crazy so many guys were under 200 lbs. Why is height so significant? Why so few guys over 6 feet that are dominant?
If Sergio Oliva came back to the IFBB in 1976 he would have smoked Franco, Waller & Zane. He beat Robby and Bill Grant in other head-to-head contests during the same post-Arnold era of 1976-1981.
Gr8 vid nick
The New Intro!
Arnold had the best chest in history. His pecs were fucking HUGE!
Hey nick please do a video on Edgard John augustin the guy does bodybuilding and doesn’t have his real legs from knee down their bionic he looks great it’s motivating still doesn’t miss leg day haha
Can you do a video about Boyer Coe and Serge Nubret?
billyboy3404 he did one on nurbet. "The black panther"
U must respect frank columbo beacuse he was like ronnie with just a bit more aesthetic physique and strong af
Can you do a video on the 202 division?
I guess Arnold was just too sexy Nick
How about Serge Nubret vs. Chris Bumstead or Regan Grimes....that would be awesome
5th... I'm off today hahahaha great video as always Nick.
1:38 Ed Corney looking pretty sharp ...
Mentzer should be Mr O at 79 and 80!
We all know Arnold was there just behind the scenes.
Cant give it to ARNOLD give it to his best friend
Certainly true for 1981....
1976 is more believable, 1981 was a sham...
You should do a vid of the barbarian brothers!!
do a video about ulisses jr. he's claim to be natural, please comment about him. thx
Love that shot at 55 secs. How can anyone with eyes not see that Ferrignos physique is superior. Arnold looks like his little brother. P.s. Mentzer won the 80 olympia
Chris Lyman Ferrigno was smooth and too heavy in 1975 Mr. Olympia. P.S. Mentzer did not win it.
Hey nick. Can you do a video about sazali samad? Hes a malaysian bodybuilder who is a 10x mr universe. Thanks a lot
Great vid
Frank 》Franco
nice video
How did mike Katz qualify for the Olympia?
Hey Man, can you make a video about the REAL most conditioned Dorian Yates? At the 1996 German Grand Prix. Many believe its the 1993 mr Olympia, but I think he was a tad bit drier and more conditioned in the German Grand Prix 3 years later
Could Jason Blaha have been a Men’s Physique competitor?
Could a bodybuilder have been Vin Diesel?
Its to bad that ferrigno wasn't a contestant that year.
This is where Lew should have trained hard and competed. He would have taken it!
Yo u should really do a video on tameav asxab he’s a 16 year old from Chechen with a 20 inch neck and is swole asf, they have a kinda viral vid bout him with over 2 mil views. You should talk bout if you think he’s natural and his Physique
who is the first guy from the right ?
all right, what's going on you guys
Frank Zane was an emo that's how he got those deep cuts in his muscles #themoreyouknow
Could Mabel of WWE be a body builder?
One think that strikes me about old contest photos is the relaxed pose. In the old contest the relaxed pose looks well, relaxed. I know they are flexed a bit. But now in the relaxed pose all of the contestants look like they are trying to hold in a fart.
I really wanted to enter especially as I knew Arnold had retired.....but I was only 4 years old, and they have rules apparently. Typical politiks.
Do a video on NinjaTylerMuscleGod
Could Donkey Kong have been a bodybuilder?
1976 the year Arnie couldn't get to tha choppa !
Your Boy turned sponsored
Could Goku be a bodybuilder?
Nick, make a vid about Rus legend Alexander Nevsky plz.
Google "Wot tak wot"
Do you think Franco deserved to win?
Arnold and Franco the best❤️💪🏽
I had like to offer death contract to Mr.McMahon.......
I’d rather Mike Mentzer win the Olympia 3 times rather than Frank Zane.
Moe's no
Absolutely agree.
arnold would not allow that
Moe's Zane is scrawny not nice to look at at all to me
Zane was the 70s equivalent to Steve reeves. Size alone couldn't beat him....
FIRST
Could bruce lee been a bodybuilder
