The pandemic really woke a lot of people up, our mom drilled into our heads the importance of being prepared as children, she went through WW2 and they had a 1-acre garden growing up and her father knew how to forage for mushrooms, berries, could weave his own baskets, make wine, graft trees, etc. It's the way it was done in the old country and the way they did it here, they were blessed they could share their bounty with families whose main breadwinner or sons went to war. You don't need a tortilla press. I've made TONS of tortillas using a heavy book (phone book or something like that). You can wrap it in foil if you wanna make sure it's extra clean. So you just take a plastic bag (freezer bag thickness) and cut it open so that there is only one side connected still. Place the little ball of dough between the two pieces of plastic and then put the heavy book on top and press down hard. There you have it, a tortilla press and no extra kit. I've made thousands of tortillas this way. Not cuz I don't have a press, I do, I just lose it a lot.

I love Azure and have been using them for for 15 years. Incredible organic selection, usually cheaper and bulk is great! I cook all our food from scratch and it does take longer but I also cook extra and freeze some or if I made more I can it. I also have a 1/3 acre vegetable garden.and a 1/4 acre of all kinds of berries and fruit. I am very impressed with your knowledge being so young. Good for you! Just like you we also make almost all products from scratch, mustard, vinegars, barbecue sauce and all salad dressings are the easiest. I did find ketchup took way to much of my time and to many tomatoes even though I do 2 - 50' rows of tomatoes. We are working on medicinal herbs for health now. You are doing a great job very proud of you.
I've been on Azure Standard website and they have a lot of items I can use. My problem is that they don't deliver to my area in NY. As far as tortillas go, I roll mine out with my rolling pin as thin as I can get it. The key is after you shape them into balls, you have to rest the dough for at least 30 minutes to an hour in the fridge so the masa flour can absorb the liquid before you roll them out just like a pie crust but only smaller and thinner. But it is better to have a tortilla press which makes it a lot easier.
Another good reason to bulk buy we never know what's going to happen next...a pantry is always a good idea, people lived that ways for such a long time ,it only makes sense
The brand of oatmeal sold at Thrive Market and Costco that has the wreath of oatmeal stocks on it is the brand that Is tested to be the cleanest of the organic nongmo glypisate free oatmeal on the market.
Do you mean Coach’s Oats? I buy it at Costco and we love it. The only thing is, Coach’s Oats are steel cut, not rolled. So you may need to adjust cooking times and amount of liquid needed just a bit.
Not sure if anybody has mentioned it in the comments yet but wanted to point out that the vinegar from your haul is not ACV but apple flavored vinegar, which lacks the nutritional profile that true ACV has. It's basically a distilled white vinegar with artificial flavoring and coloring, for those who would like to steer clear of those ingredients. Thanks for the fun, informational video! I love watching your channel :)
Delightful to find your amazing channel! Truly. If I were younger i woujd be your cooking follower. But don’t have the “umpah” at 76 to do all this! Lol I am TOTALLY interested in a video on making corn tacos as I have a gluten allergy so I often sub with corn in one form or another. Take care!!

The only thing irritating about your channel.. is that youre still starting off and Im excited to see how you go! The journey will be fun to travel along though. I tried gardening and it failed miserably. Its just too rainy, too muggy, too unpredictable here (110F summers, but 20F winters lately). It rains so much itll flood out areas. Instead we opted for a garage deep freezer system. We buy in bulk, prepare beforehand, but just dont plant anything ourselves. When covid came, we were totally fine. I still had to work though so.. I was still going out and about. It was the damn Winter Storm that took out most of our stockpile..
Pre-harvest spraying is being phased out for food crops. Several major companies stopped buying sprayed crops since 2015 and pre-harvest spraying is supposedly going to end for grains by 2025. I live in Michigan and never heard of such a practice until now, we have grown cereal grains many times.
You’ll find the white wheat flour to be softer & not as heavy as the hard red winter wheat flour. I have a friend who raises non-GMO white wheat. So am blessed to get a lot of white wheat berries. I believe last fall I bought 10 5 gallon buckets. I don’t remember how many #’s is was. I just went to their farm & bought the leftover cleaned wheat berries, after they were finished planting. I don't know if you are aware that you can freeze butter. During the holidays they put butter on sale very cheaply, I buy Prairie Farms it is very good quality and I have 12 1 lb boxes in the freezer right now. I wish I had purchased more but there is a limit to the number you can pick up at a time so I just pop in and pick up my limit of butter and throw it in the freezer.
@@AcreHomestead County Market just had it on sale again with the penny pincher add and I was able to secure 10 more boxes now sitting in the freezer. Sams had the large cans of coffee on sale for $6.99 and although we don't drink much of it I got the max of 4 cans, smaller cans are $9.99 right now. This way when I have to go to someone's house and bring a side I can take a can of coffee, most everyone we know uses Folgers regular, they can use it for their guests or keep it in their pantry. I am prepared, also the church asks for a donation for the homeless shelter every year, and hot coffee in the winter is a great thing, along with a bag of sugar and powdered creamer.
I try to place a monthly Azure, but no little kids at home , so we only ever have to get milk .. One has to be careful with honey quality. Its common practice for companies to cut the honey with high fructose corn syrup similar to Karo syrup to increase profits. Earlier this year honey production here in Greece was cut in half due to the fires in Northern Eboia which is an island east of the mainland and parallel to it. Before moving to Greece we would buy Orange Blossom honey from California. Honey producers move their hives from crop to crops during the growing season and there are a few dedicated producers who only deal with citrus farmers to pole ate their crops. Spices we buy at a local cash and carry and they are packaged bulk in plastic bags. We will place them in canning jars to best preserve them, plastic is way to porous and they will lose their flavor quickly. I wish they had distilled white vinegar here, only thing one finds is vinigat from grapes both white and red but those are best for some cooking and salads. Wish we had a Sams or Costco a resound here.
Sam's club has cheaper flour. See when I go to a new place to bulk shop I make sure that it's the best price I can get. If I can send my caregiver to Sam's and get it cheaper by more than a dollar then I do that. Right now I've got enough flour but I need to start my bread again. I make the dough and I let it rise on a piece of parchment paper and then I put my three and a half quart cast iron Dutch oven enamel lancast iron it doesn't matter in my oven as high as it will go for 1 hour with nothing in it and the lid on. Once the bread has risen I cut the top and yes I bought a bread lame but it was inexpensive. Once the bread has risen it should coincide with your pan being ready and you pull out your pan from the oven take the lid off take the bread on the parchment paper put it in the Dutch oven and spray it with water very well once you don't want water in the bottom. Put the lid on and put it back in the oven that you have turned down to either 400° or 450 degrees depending upon your recipe. 15 minutes after it goes in the oven give it one more squirt of water put the lid back on and it bakes for close to 60 minutes but you can also temperature bread when it's done you take it out you pull it out pull out the parchment paper along with your bread and voila you have a crusty artisan round bread and I don't even knead this bread! My hands can't do it I either use my stand mixer or my bread maker and I mix it to dough but you can do this in a bowl with the handle of a wooden spoon. If anyone would like the recipe I will post it.
Don't forget to freeze your beans, rice, flour for 3-7 days this stops you from getting weveos? in your foods. I learned this the hard way. Put up some rice and beans. Open the bucket about few months later bugs every where in it.
That Stash tea is so good!! I just ran out and need to get more. Question: do you have a lot of fridge space for storing fresh produce? I wish I could shop less often but my quandary is: what about fresh produce and it staying fresh? Also, that is such a great point about insurances and how having “food insurance” is so important!! 👍🏼👍🏼
I have an extra fridge in my pantry. If you watch the pantry tour video you can see it. It was my 30s birthday present :) You know you are old when you want a fridge for a birthday present
I do this too, we don't have a great amount of room though so everytime a box turns up my partner rolls his eyes and just walks off shaking his head lol
I wish you were local to me. A dear friend sent me a massive quantity of white flour for baking bread, and I really don't use much white flour at all. I'd rather have the wholewheat flour! Roll on the day when a Star Trek-style "transporter beam" allows us to swap unwanted items! I am astounded at the quantities you buy in. But the cauliflower heads and other vegetables won't keep for a whole month. So how to you treat them now, to get the best use out of them? Do you go into a massive flurry of taking vegetables apart, blanching them and freezing them?
I live and work in the farming community...the farming practice you are describing is not a common practice. I'm not saying it never happens, but I have only heard of this happening on sunflowers (the ones for oil and bird seed). Even then it rarely happens, and this is why...a farmer can't make a profit if they do that. Also, that would only shorten the time by a few days if that. That is an expensive way to shave a few day off until harvest. Lastly, the only reason I can think why a farmer might do this is because of crop damage concerns. There is crop insurance...it makes more sense to collect a crop insurance check than to add another expense. Honestly, there isn't a lot of margin in farming...you have to be thrifty and use your noggin' to make a go at it. Maybe it is happening, I'm just not seeing it.
@@alysiaadams3729 All information I have is from reading about large agricultural practices. I don't have any first hand knowledge b/c I don't know any cotton, wheat or corn farmers personally. I'm sure there are many ways it's done depending on the size of the farm and their farming philosophies but to be safe I buy organic when I can on wheat, cotton and corn.
Homemade flour tortillas are supposed to be fluffy! But not really thick, so just roll them out thinner, there’s nothing like them and use organic flour from Costco.

Just found your channel yesterday! Am loving your freezer meals. Your prep, storage, etc. I’ve been stocking up for yrs. l love getting ideas from others tho! Thanks for the inspiration & great ideas!😊
Wow thanks so much! I love that you are enjoying them :)
Noticed the sour cream banana bread video, and low sugar strawberry jam. Would love to see more breakfast recipes including the baked oatmeal recipe that you make each week! Thanks in advance!
Found your oatmeal recipe and lovely quiche recipe in the follow up video. Thanks again for sharing these. Shirley
You can use the wholewheat flour in your pies and raqout. If you mind the bran you can sift it (and add the brsn to your oats bakes).
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
I am working on the herbs too!
I love watching seed hauls and grocery hauls to get ideas about meals. I love your channel. See you next time.
Wow thanks so much! And thanks for watching! I’m glad you are enjoying it :)
Another good reason to bulk buy we never know what's going to happen next...a pantry is always a good idea, people lived that ways for such a long time ,it only makes sense
Totally agree :)
Oh remember to have a green tea in the afternoon.....so healthy.
Is there caffeine in it?
There may be a tiny bit, but as I am so sensitive to caffeine, I will say it has none because it has never triggered my fibromyalgia.
Great!! You can always buy your white flour and mix a little of the wheat in till it's used up🖒😁
it is likely what I will be doing!

The brand of oatmeal sold at Thrive Market and Costco that has the wreath of oatmeal stocks on it is the brand that Is tested to be the cleanest of the organic nongmo glypisate free oatmeal on the market.
Thanks!
Do you mean Coach’s Oats? I buy it at Costco and we love it. The only thing is, Coach’s Oats are steel cut, not rolled. So you may need to adjust cooking times and amount of liquid needed just a bit.
@@dorothyyoung8231 The brand name is "One Degree."
Youre doing awesome 👏🏼
Delightful to find your amazing channel! Truly. If I were younger i woujd be your cooking follower. But don’t have the “umpah” at 76 to do all this! Lol
I am TOTALLY interested in a video on making corn tacos as I have a gluten allergy so I often sub with corn in one form or another. Take care!!
welcome to the community. i have been thinking about making tortillas.
you are amazing. I look forward to seeing all your videos.
Hi, love your channel, it is so great to find someone nearby (Oregon city here) in my zone 8b, i have been catching up oldest to newest video and I don’t know if you have tried it but i cut my leeks like you, and soak them in the salad spinner then drain the water and spin it and repeat as needed. I saw you just got a salad spinner so i thought i would mention it as a time saver!
Welcome aboard!
What an awesome food haul, thanks for sharing!
If you have enough space you can put your opened bags of grains in the freezer. This keeps them from going rancid.
Love your video’s! Thank you and have an awesome day🌻
Help! I can't stop watching all your videos!😂 You're awesome!
I live in eastern Washington! I love it here.....
Yay! I live WA
I know this is from a couple of months ago but I’m also from Washington! I’m in the between Seattle and Tacoma.
Cotton is sprayed with other chemicals to kill the boll weevil as well
New subscriber here. Loving the look of all this preparedness, well done You!
Tea is another heavily sprayed item, traditional medicinal are safe, and pretty good too
Oh good to know!
@@AcreHomestead Celestial Seasoning is our favorite tea, I know you are on a budget, have you emailed companies to ask for coupons? I saw a youtube video on how it is done and with just a few min a day I've been very successful.
We never use refined white flour. We have a grain mill and we grind our own flour and that for everything. Right now what we use is turkey red wheat.
I think you have a fantastic idea if you cant grow it buy in bulk. That's exactly what i used to do before we bought our home now :)
I’m going to buy the tortilla press; I’m excited to see you make them.
Looks great! Thank you for sharing.
I love buying in bulk and especially spices and those dry grains and wheat berries
I love having bulk too
Wow! I didn't know that about the grains and the round up!
Just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to more videos! I love how you make so much food from scratch and buy in bulk.
Krista!! I'm so glad you are here! I love it too!!
Fresh corn tortillas are.....OOOOOOOOOBOIII
Pre-harvest spraying is being phased out for food crops. Several major companies stopped buying sprayed crops since 2015 and pre-harvest spraying is supposedly going to end for grains by 2025. I live in Michigan and never heard of such a practice until now, we have grown cereal grains many times.
I shop once a month also love your haul.
Thanks!
I believe I paid less than $30
Thanks for the tips!
Argh I’m so envious of your Gamma lids lol! I decided that I need these in my life from seeing your video.. googled the price of them here in New Zealand... $48.00 per lid!! 😳😫 I’ll keep googling lol
Wow that is crazy!!
Hey there.I'm in Australia and gamma lids are super expensive and hard to come by.Usually.However, I have just sourced some at Repco for under $10 each.I googled it and NZ has Repco too.All the Best!
i get mine from riskar detailing. they are for car cleaners but work just the same and are only £12.
Hi, I've just found your channel and I'm excited to watch all your videos. I know that a lot of time and effort goes into creating high quality videos so I want to thank you for that and I've learnt alot already. I think that covid changed a lot of the ways we do things not just in terms of food also work, family etc. I hope that you, your family and friends are well with covid19 still around. Xx
Loved watching all of this!! Such great info. I just purchased some buckets and gamma lids to start bulk storage at my house. I would love to see the containers and links to smaller containers you use too? Do you use gallon jars? Plastic containers? How do you store your bulk seasonings? Etc? Would love a new recap. :)
Love watching your hauls, hugs from Aus x
Thank you!!! Looking into this company thanks to you. I too go through spices and I pay so much money, ugh! Looks like they deliver in my area..yaay!
I just wanted to tell you to make sure to keep those raisins sealed really well because when I worked at a place that got government raisins every now and then the raisins would start to crawl we called it! I can’t remember what the boss said I think she said it was maggots but I am not sure I just know check your raisins or and make sure they don’t look like they’re moving!!
oh wow good to know!
I put raisins in the freezer for a few days before I open the package. Then I keep them in the fridge. Tina
I just found you last week from a bulk cooking video & saw this video pop up on my playlist. I Love Winco-I live in AZ and we got winco several years & I have been shopping there since the day it opened. Funny you talked about the gamma lids-I looked at those when I was there shopping this weekend. My store only has the 2 &5 gallon buckets but the lids only fit the 5&7 gallon buckets. Thanks for sharing this info.
white flour is heavily refined and stripped of most of it nutrients. some of it is bleached with peroxide. you are better off with the wheat.
Not to be tmi but I’m
Super surprised you don’t use a cup instead of tampons. The cup totally changed everything for me it’s so good
You can get food grade 5 gallon buckets at tractor supply for 4.00 each or 2 for 6.00
Thanks!
I love doing that! I just didn't buy enough at the holiday's to get me through very long lol I will do better this year :)
I love watching all of your videos! Do you have a recipe or video on how you make your own mustard?
I try to place a monthly Azure, but no little kids at home , so we only ever have to get milk .. I love not shopping at store, Love Azure.,I really stocked up this month , so my ordersgoing forward should be really manageable.... and I got a freeze dryer from Harvest right and now I want to start buying foods to freeze dry, and harvest right has a lay away plan is really good...takes awhile to get but awesome, and freeze dried foods can last 30 years in mylar & oxy absorbs... even comes with a sealer.. I think I got 267 lbs in order ,lots of 25lb bags.. that's wonderful azure took care of you..
Wow you bought a freeze dyer! That amazing. I’m not going to get one anytime soon. I really want a second pressure canner and dehydrator. I just got my last year and I used them so much I would love to have two going at once.
@@AcreHomestead I had bought a 9 tray Excalibur, but then went and bought 2 more rectangle shape dehydrator but never really used to much ..But when I found out they had a layaway at harvest right, I thought about it and had wanted one for years but getting hubby on board took some time but after watching retired at 40 freeze drying...it 2as obvious this last longer than dehydrated and retain 95 to 97% of the nutrients in the food and can store 30 or more years... milk ,eggs ,so much that can be freeze dried...I watched so many which helped e see what I could do for my family with food security..But the fact we can do meat and it works just great...living traditions homestead and deep south also..might be worth thinking of lay away but of course you have to do what you can and dehydrator is easier and cheaper to get first..I think it's good to not put all our eggs in one basket so yo speak , we now have so many ways to store our food our past generations didn't have such as easy way to do so.. I hope one day you would be able to try one. I SPENT 6 months watching videos on the freeze dryer and harvest right videos and then they'd tubers ones also...maybe you could get a better deal ,if you suggest you would do videos on your experience with and be an affiliate...just thought, could also maybe do for dehydrators.. I know it's hard to be able todo everything right away ofr at same time ..esp.if you have children ...have a beautiful week!!

Homestead Heart you may want to check out her newest video ,mar.21,21..
There is a goid savings on it and she is reviewing it..think you might like it..
Question- if you’re a person on a budget and can only do organic on some items, what items would you focus on most?
Thanks Becky 7-13-2021
I hope you do some videos on canning
Yes, Thanks!
Can you just use oxygen obsorbers instead of freezing?
FYI - Lowes has same buckets for $3.99
Thats where I get mine. They also have lids.
Mine too...

You’re awesome!
Do you go into a massive flurry of taking vegetables apart, blanching them and freezing them?
i have not blanched in the past. just froze them
Can you do a video on how you make your condiments? Mustard and hot sauce! Thanks
We live in Vermont and I REALLY wish there was a drop point near us. I so want to start getting things from Azure Standard. Great haul by the way.
Thanks!
I did not know that about wheat, cotton and oats. I knew they had a lot of pesticide on them but I didn't know the details so thank you!
You're welcome!! It's kind of crazy.
Thanks
Great show just came cross channel love it
