A long time ago, i played in the state championship. ( 1982/83 )
For the season our offense averaged 38 points a game. Our defense had given up a total of 20 points for the season. We were a running team so we passed very rarely.
In the state game we found ourselves down 13-0 with 2 minutes left. We got the ball and passing scored a touchdown and the extra point making it 13-7 with 1:20 to go. The kick pinned them deep. The defense held first two downs then recovered a fumble leaving the offense on the 25 or 30 yard line with 40 seconds. We once again passed the ball on every play and scored. I will remember that extra point kick forever. Watched it go through making it 13-14 our favor. With less than 20 seconds on the clock they received the kick and fumbled it trying to lateral. After the complete domination of every team we played including the the team we played for the state title earlier in the season. We had to come from behind in the final 2 minutes to win state. What a great memory.

Same exact thing happened in New Jersey championship game. Lost on the 6 inch line. A great game.
When I was in High School in the 60's , we had a similar situation. But on the 4th down - after three tries at the one yard line - our QB threw an interception that was returned 99 yards for a TD. It's been over 50 years and I still can't forget it.

Like many other people leaving messages about how the winning team would go over and help up the losing team got me all choked up man. I mean your team just won the championship and the first thing you do is console the losing team. They got some big hearts dude. No issues with the other players celebrating, I just find it amazing what they did.

I recall this one running back who score 4 tds to help Polk High win the city championship. Including the game winner. That was a gutsy game by one player. He wore #33 I believe.

I remember losing in a state championship. 😢 fell to my knees and started crying
Me too, losing a championship after going undefeated thru the season really hurt my heart at that point. However, it put all things into perspective. Of course I didn't realize it until years later. Those were some of the best coaches, teammates and community I was fortunate enough to have known! Still proud to have been on that team!!!
Pure elation and absolute despair, I won a state championship and lost another so I’ve experienced both. Those experiences gave me a lot of perspective for things that would come later on in life.

Wait a minute even in high school pass interference is an automatic 1st down, I played QB in HS 2 years ago
In high school it’s 15 yards from the previous spot (or half the distance to the goal) - not automatic first down. Most of the time 15 yards will result in a first down, but it isn’t automatic

I grew up in Nebraska. I remember playing against Gretna back when I was in school. We were both Class B schools (Gretna has around a population of 5k and we were around 7k). Not sure what either are now.
Watched a few Nebraska Cornhusker football games at the Memorial Stadium, too.

was on 3 state championships, the last one, in 77, we were on our own 30 ,3 secs left, score was tied, down the left sideline bomb pass and TOUCHDOWN, to take the crown, something you take with you the rest of your life!

This is my first year playing high school football and I’ve always been that one guy on the team trying to lift up the other team in a game and it just makes me so happy to see other people doing it too

Backstory Gretna ended up getting stripped of the trophy, because their quarterback wasn’t able to play because of where he lived

This happened to me in high school in the early 2000's when I was a freshman we always made it to the semis and went to state twice and won it my senior year but my junior year we went to state but lost by 5 we were on the 6 yard line 4 & 5 I was the tight end and the pass wound up being too high at the time it was the worst feeling ever the white jerseys have my absolute respect for consoling the red team for losing the state true sportsmanship there
