The mother went after the kids while they were sleeping. She smothered Nicholas first while he was asleep so he didn’t know what happened. Anne woke up while her brother was being attacked & was aware when her mother kiIIed her. She was too young to understand that they were dead but she knew her mother had harmed her & her brother. That’s why she kept hinting that her mother had done something horrible & that’s why she was so angry & confrontational with her mother. The father died in the war & returned home for a final goodbye. He knew that his wife had kiIIed their children & that’s why he wasn’t happy to see her. Great job figuring it out though it does take some of the fun out of the reveal.
A lot of modern movies have stolen from great films like this one, so it makes sense that "modern audiences" can figure a lot of these tried and true tropes out nowadays.
Just curious though, how do you KNOW this is the case? Did you guess or did they lay the details out in an interview? They never explicitly state the details of Nicholas being asleep and all that so I just want to know what your source is.
@princesslina4043. Read it in an article/interview about the director, Alejandro Amenabar. The article was talking about his work & this movie was mentioned. Don’t remember which magazine it was in because it was years ago. It was after her won a bunch of awards for another movie & the article gave an overview of his work.
@@reservoirdude92 True that also it's hard not to hear about the twist in movies like this one the sixth sense fight club not saying that's what he's doing just sayin'. Some of these reactors are full of it.
'Don't they got a ghost CPS or something?' 😂 You're the best! Well done for calling it! I saw this aged 12 in the cinema and the whole room jumped when the old lady opened the cupboard door. A now classic twist on the haunted house story! It's a great one to watch people react to and you nailed it!
So what happened was, because the children had to have no light, she kept the curtains drawn for herself, too, and gave herself a vitamin D deficiency, which causes depression and other illnesses which is why she did what she did. She went insane.
I don't like what she did, but I understand what broke her. She was stressed to the max. Her husband was at war; the Germans had invaded the island; her children were special needs; it was probably hard to get food because of the war; she was also a bit tightly wound and was a religious fanatic. It was the perfect storm for something horrible to happen.
"if they're ghosts then why aren't they wearing sheets and clanking chains?" Caus they're not in the Klan 🤣 I had to pause because I was laughing so hard
_The Others_ is the last genuinely suspenseful ghost story ever made. Indirectly adapted from the late Victorian novella _The Turn of the Screw_ by Henry James, it stays true to the 19th century source material while bringing the setting forward to WW2. Grace reading from Genesis as the camera pans over candle-lit illustrations is among the best introductory sequences ever put to film. The scene where she goes to face the intruders, ascending the stairs while clutching her rosary, whispering the Lord's prayer, is magnificent. You can really feel her terror. _They_ are the ghosts, trapped in the very limbo she had warned her children about. On subsequent viewings, you will notice subtle hints as to what is really going on. In the beginning, Grace wakes up screaming; she was having a nightmare about suffocating her children. Mrs Mills tells Grace that grief can make people do the strangest things; Grace killed her children in a psychotic break after learning that Charles died. When we see Grace retrieve the shotgun, she pauses, as if remembering something; the last time she held it, she was committing suicide. Grace mentions that she is suffering migraines; she had shot herself in the forehead. Ann's breathing becomes laboured when she is agitated; the last thing the children would have experienced is the desperation to breathe as Grace smothered them. Grace mentions that the fog has never been so thick; it is the boundary of the limbo she is now imprisoned within, and she cannot venture beyond it, as Mills and Tuttle indicate.
im so glad i randomly came across this video. you are so hilarious and sweet and you have SO many good movie reactions on your channel! i have like 20 tabs open right now to binge your videos LMAO
Best supernatural thriller since “The Changeling” with George C Scott. No gratuitous gore, just isolation and quiet dread as the tension slowly ratchets up. And arguably the best performance of Nicole Kidman’s career.
Dammit. Sherlock Jay pieced it all together. This movie always freaked me out more than most because I think this is how it really is for ghosts. They're at varying stages of acceptance or knowledge of their deaths. But otherwise, they're just carrying on living their lives as normal like everyone else.
I LOVE the way this film is shot; the gothic atmosphere is so rich you can feel it. This really was another one that, like The Sixth Sense, you DEFINITELY needed to not get spoiled before watching. Also, you need more Guillermo del Toro in your life. Y'all know which ones (spoiler alert: it's all of them haha) ❤

Guillermo DelToro made an excellent gothic ghost story called The Devil’s Backbone. He also made Mimic ( not a ghost story, but it is a good monster movie).
“That’s why she has migraines.” 😂😂 Now that they all know tell me that daughter isn’t gonna call her out any time she’s being ridiculous. Ain’t got nothing to lose.
They used to put photos up of passed away loved ones in the 1800’s. They’d dress them up , put makeup on them and sit them in “natural” positions in chairs , sometimes on the bed , together with other family members if lost at the same time etc. it’s wild to look at t he photos but is what they used to do. I myself prefer having pictures of my mom when she was alive and happy , I could never put a photo of after she passed up. Great reaction EOM!
