- See the Highline Trail in Glacier national Park.
See why Heidi was so terrified on this trail of epic beauty!
Also, I mentioned a glacier here, when in realty it was a snowfield. :)
Also: this is really a point to point hike. The loop is just a quoted spot on the sun road. All trails describes this as an out and back.
Please see description ❤❤ This is not a loop but - AllTrails states it is an out and back. The shuttles run in the park. Thank you all for dropping in! This was a lot of fun! It’s also worth mentioning that there is a last shuttle of the day. A lot of people hitch hike back to the lot. A lot of other people hike back to the lot. It’s good to make plans for catching the shuttle.
My favorite way to hike this is to take the bus to Logan's Pass early, hike to the Grinnell Glacier overlook, have lunch at the Granite Park Chalet, hike up to the Swift Current Lookout and hike down the valley via Swift Current Pass to Many Glacier Lodge (we stay at Many). What a wonderful way to spend the day. Over the years I have done it a dozen times. Thanks so much for the video!!
Always carry bear spray!!!
Cheers!
Bill
@@10661956 I love this!!!!! What fantastic memories! It sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing :) Yes totally agree about the bear spray!
My favorite hike of all time, stunning scenery, absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
It is epic!!!! Thanks for commenting.
That’s ridiculous how incredible the scenery is
The most beautiful place!
Love this video!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!!! Check out those cool 2 other people in it too :)
Great video, Heidi! I lived in and around Glacier for over eight spring, summers, and falls. Words simply cannot do it justice.
It is incredible! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love going on these hikes with you vicariously, love grani❤
💕❤️💕❤️ I love going on them with you, in person, as well 💕❤️ I love you so much!
Thank you for the images. Beautiful. It has been decades since I drive thru Glacier NP on a family car trip. I need to go spend some time there.
Thank you for watching!! What a great place right?
Heidi, you are so cool! I wish I would have know we both have a passion for hiking and nature in general when were both in college together. Thank you for sharing and your film and video shots are amazing! I can see you put a lot of hard work into these videos and the quality is superb.
I too have cried on trails many times due to fear of falling and hiking poles have been the best investment. Well worth it! Thanks for sharing your passion for the outdoors! Already enjoying your content so much
Hey! Thank you so much for reaching out! This is so cool to hear from a fellow college pal! I hope you are doing well! Thank you for the encouragement! :) I really appreciate that as well. I am crazy and thought: “nah I’ll just leave my poles in the car right now”. Never. Again! 😂 What is your favorite hiking area?
My favorite go to hike when I'm there! Stoked to head back this summer for a third season!
That is awesome! I know it will be a great time! :)
North America is such a stunning continent. The mountains of Montana have always fascinated me, can't wait to go there next year in summer!
Love this! I love it! Montana is beautiful! You will love it!
Hello heidi new subscriber here. You are lucky to get shuttle back to parking lot. I was there later during season and had to hike back from granite chalet. Beautiful hike, just thought it would have been more pleasant if my foot wasn’t so wet from rain and snow. Love your wild life and landscape photography. Appreciate the beautiful and keep on living.
Hello! So glad to have you :) Oh man, that’s rough!!! I am so sorry. It is a beautiful place for sure! Stunning 😍
My wife and I hiked this one in July and it was definitely in the top 2 hikes we did (Iceberg Lake was also amazing).
While it’s narrow in some sections and made me a little dizzy/vertigo feeling from an inner ear condition I had that definitely caused some anxiety along the way, it is extremely safe and not bad at all particularly if you go early.
We parked at Logan Pass, took
the trail to the chalet, then down the Loop trail and caught a shuttle ride back to Logan.
About 13 and change with the walk to and from our car and just an epic hike. Definitely go early and bring more water than you think you need because once that sun hits you’re totally exposed.
That is awesome!!!! Yes it’s a great one! I LOVED Iceberg way more than I thought I would! I enjoy the more underrated ones! I think we go back and fourth a lot to film so we end up adding an extra mile wherever we go somehow. I am glad you liked it as much as I did! :)
This is a great video. I live in Montana. I LOVE Glacier National Park. I’m going next weekend. I’ve hiked to Grinnell Glacier. It’s an awesome hike. It’s 7 miles one way. It starts in Many Glacier. I’ve always wanted to do the high line trail. It’s difficult to get into Glacier now.
It was very difficult to get into glacier, we woke up at every morning when we wanted a ticket the next day, and tried to reserve it before it sold out in 15 mins! That’s awesome that you live there! Super cool! :) Lucky to live around such beauty ❤️
Stunning !
It is! ❤ He is good!
The wind is insane lol 4:44
Excellent video!
It was really crazy!!!! ❤️💕 Thank you!
Nice video. My spouse and I have hiked sections of this trail over the many years that we have visited Glacier
That is awesome! What a great trail!! :)
I had the privilege of hiking to the chalet. You are out there and doing it, good for u
Thank you so much for watching! Did you love the hike?
Thank you for bringing this adventure to us in 4k video. It looks amazing! I'm guessing you could spend a week there and wish you could stay longer. 😊
For sure!!!! My dream would totally be to do even more trips with a van even! Maybe one day God will allow this 💕💕💕💕 It was amazing for sure!!
Amazing footage! Felt like I was watching scenes of a movie. I hope I can go there someday, I’m speechless
Thank you so much! It will be there waiting for you! :)
This is incredible, Heidi! 💖
Thank you so much!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ God makes awesome things!
Wow. You are awesome to complete this hike. I would never do this hike and I am 60 years old and afraid of heights and bears.
It was probably the coolest hike and most scenic I have ever done! (So far, Lord willing) :)
Thank you for sharing. I was in the park mid June, fortunately the road to the sun opened the 2nd day of my trip. Unfortunately some of trails were still closed due to the snow. I was a soooo disappointed i was unable to do the highline.
Looks like you had a great time
Oh no!!! :/ Well, maybe another time, the highline will be waiting for you! :)
Absolutely gorgeous scenery!! I think the wind threatened to blow you off the mountains!
It did blow me into the mountain at one point!
I could tell! I could see why you would have to hunker down on some parts of that trail!
@@josephdsnell56 Yes for sure! But it was totally worth it!
My wife and I hiked this trail. It was after Labor Day (the cables were down) and there was snow on the trail. We got about 1 mile out and decided it was too risky to go further. On the way back, there were fresh bear prints on the trail. We were glad to get back to the car!
Oh wow! That’s a really crazy experience! I bet it was absolutely beautiful!
To this day, one of my favorite out and backs I’ve done. Garden wall was absolutely unreal.
Love this!!!!!!
looks incredible but no way i'm doing that trail
It was totally amazing! I get it though! :)
Definitely an intense and awe-inspiring hike! Had a tense standoff with a mountain goat on the narrow part of the trail near Logan Pass, now that was scary!
Oh my! That is scary! What happened?
@@HeidiAnnHikes The goat was finally scared away when some other hikers showed up after maybe 30 minutes or so. Those goats sure look cute and cuddly up until they're not!
Way to go, Kid......Great Shots.
Thank you!!!!!!
That wind was rip’n man
Great Video!!!
Thank you!
Nice filming Awesome beautiful
Thank you so much! :)
If you posted this soon after your return, we were there around the same time. Thanks for sharing the trail footage/pics!
Last week of July? :)
@@HeidiAnnHikes Almost; Aug 15-16. Hopefully will be back for a longer stay and to hike to Grinell glacier
@@dave7mm083 That is awesome! Yes we were thinking of that one too, but then we chose Iceberg lake.
i just hiked this trail this August on a hazy day unfortunately. don't get me wrong. it was still beautiful but i just wish i could see the clear sky like you did. for this reason, i will be going back to do it again!
For sure go back! It’s totally worth it! :)
Did you do any backcountry stuff in Glacier? I think I have some stuff from that neck of the woods on my TH-cam. I used to vacation up there and in Canada every year. Now I'm mainly in Arizona. Really wish I'd done the glacier overlook when we did the high line trail. Did several backcountry hikes in Glacier. One of my all time favorite parks. Keep making the videos. It's a lot of work, I struggle to make mine, but your channel is unique!
I did not do any, I would love to though! I’m just getting my feet wet really :) Yes! Finding the time can be challenging as a teacher myself. However, I have decided to break the “norm” and do my own thing. :) Thank you for watching. What is your favorite park?
@@HeidiAnnHikes I don't go to the parks much anymore. I go out in the wilderness (can see on my channel)... that said if I had to pick a park, probably Glacier in Montana.
Beautiful! How long did this hike take you? I get super sketched out with heights too but that won’t stop me. I’ll be in Glacier around June/July on a 3 month road-trip. Can’t wait!
Love this!!! I am the same! My motto is I can always turn around but always try! This hike took me 12 hours but I stopped a lot to film and to do photography. I stopped for lunch too as well. I think it would take way less time if I wasn’t so involved in capturing my favorite parts on camera…. Which this trail has a lot. That’s awesome about the road trip!
I was in Glacier last September. I xant wait to go bsck.
It is amazing isn’t it? Loved it also!
I'm terrified of heights, too.
How did you do on the going to the sun road?
As long as I have a wide pathway I feel safer,, so going to the sun road was a lot better! 💕
Did this hike in 90 degree weather in August. I remember seeing the poor mountain goats lying on their sides on the ice patches trying to keep cool.
Oh no! I hope they are soaking in all the cold now! That is pretty hot! It was a warmer summer for sure there! I was surprised myself to have warm days there as well.
This is interesting, my sister had the same issue on that part of the trail. (She doesn't like heights)
A lot of people feel this way 🩷 I am working on facing my fears :)
Love the wide angle
On your camera
Thank you for watching! :)
My wife and I did the Highline traile in 2018, no problem. I’m 65 years old. My wife is one year younger than me.
That is awesome!!!!!! This is what I hope to be 🙏
It’s heartbreaking to see that the Grinnell Glacier is gone, except for a small snowfield 😢
It would have been awesome to see it back then!
Grinnell Glacier has receded, but is still an active glacier.
I worked at Glacier in 2007 before they sarted to destroy our parks. I did this hike, it is fantastic. the original chalet was still there. quite an out and back for me.
That is awesome that you worked there! What was your favorite part about working there? This is such a great hike!!!!
So where are all the glaciers?
There were over 100 when the park opened in 1910.
Don't worry, I'd cry too if I had to carry that telephoto lens up a mountain.
😂😂😂😂😂 heavy but worth it! :)
Acrophobs and agroraphobs should not attempt this trail. You can have the narrow trail and the height get in your head and you press on focusing on your feet and the scenery is a background blurr.
That’s no glacier. That’s just an itty bitty snowfield. Go the other direction from Logan Pass and hike to Sperry Glacier. Magnificent.
Now I HAVE to do this! 🙏 Thanks for the tip! I updated this in the description.
Just hiked this on Wednesday of this past week.
I took 115 photos..
The views change every 10 ft it seems
Did you love it? :) It is so cool!!!!!
@@HeidiAnnHikes it was one the best hikes I've ever done although
we didn't have time to do the glacier overlook due to the time we started.
@@herbswartz8809 That’s okay! The rest of the trail was super awesome!
@@HeidiAnnHikes how many weeks ago did you hike this?
@@herbswartz8809 This was 3 weeks ago :) Now I am headed towards the Smokies :)
Read “night of the grizzly”. Great book about bears eating people in Glacier park
Yes! I have heard of this! What a strange event right?
@@HeidiAnnHikes it really happened. 1967. Two eaten in one night
I know! Absolutely nuts!!! 😱🥲
Very nice, but the great views aren't held long enough, all of a sudden the trail grunge is more important. Oh well, stop and go back, that's easy enough.
Yes! I have been thinking on this! Seems this was my tendency while creating 🤭Thank you for watching!
3/24 please! That was not a glacier, just leftover snow from the winter, and no it is not a loop hike at all, you hike down to "the loop" - because thats the name of that section of the sun road - cars are not "waiting" for anyone - its a shuttle stop along the road - please... these are details to get right if you are gonna put these videos out - the video portions are good by the way
Thank you so much! I actually realized one of those- a few months ago…. So I added it to the description. However I do wish I would have said shuttle instead of cars. :)
Added 💕 Thanks for dropping in :)
@@HeidiAnnHikes thanks for the sweet reply - i am not harshing on you in any way - just like folks to get it right - been workin here for bout 30 years - see and hear plenty of misinformed comments all over and i just hope new visitors dont get misled before or while they are visiting
@@user-pk5yq6qc5k I appreciate that 💕 I try and research before I create. However, I see now it’s easy to miss things. Thanks for helping this Carolina PE teacher out. I wish I had your experience in these amazing parks! 💕
If you're terrified of heights, what the h_ll are you doing on the trail in the first place.
Great question, personally, my little motto is that I do not bow down to fear instead I praise Jesus whom my help comes from. I personally only really felt scared on those two parts and I’ve had success in feeling less and less scared of heights the more I try them.
What better way to face your fears? It’s better than just hiding from them my man.
Some of those trails with drop-offs for me are a .....nope!
I know what you mean. I am trying to face my fears a little at a time 💕💕💕💕
Did you have bear spray with you?
Sure did!! 💕
“Snowfield”, not a glacier
Thank you! I’ll make this correction in the description :) This was my first time seeing either! :)
It's Logan Pass not Logan's
@@TheCyclist08 Yes!!!! 🫢 I tend to add an S to things on accident 😳😬 Thank you :)
Don’t you guys carry hiking sticks ?! Life savers , and easy on the knees ….
Yes! I usually do 💕
I don’t think this hike was at all scary. I saw grizzly bears on this trail as well. If you keep your distance and show respect you will be fine.
Agreed! The Scary part for me was Grinnell Overlook for sure!!! The wind was so high it blew me into the mountain at one point. Now seeing my very first grizzly bear…. I was totally scared! 🤣 However, I agree the hike itself was not scary at all. :)
You can put 20 people front to the same landscape and everyone can share a different perspective and is totally valid because humans beings are different. Heidi Ann shares her experience from her own perspective and with the attitude and words from her own personality and all this is totally valid. She is not looking that you think or talk like her, she is sharing her life experiences in her own TH-cam channel and is fantastic, sometimes we can show respect to the wild life but don't show respect for the human beings.
Are there any grizzly bears there? I would carry a rifle with me
There are grizzly bears around yes. I did see one on this hike.
35+ years of hiking/climbing Glacier. over 5000 trail miles and well over 100 mountain summits, and i never tire of the highline trail. it gives the novice a little bit of everything the Park offers - scenery, snowfields, wildlife, floral arrays, jagged peaks, the Grinnell overlook, the Chalet, and if you choose.....one of the most beautiful pass views in the Park (Swiftcurrent).
Next step, Heidi? climb a mountain. start with Oberlin (at Logan Pass) - it's a class 2 scramble (or class 3 if you approach via the saddle). Mt Pollock and Mt Piegan are just down the road at Lunch Creek, and they are class 3 (except for the Great Cleft on Pollock).
the lookouts are also great adventures. Apgar, Huckleberry, Swiftcurrent (awesome views!!), Numa Ridge (Bowman Lake), Scalplock.....and they 4000+ ft. climb to Mt. Brown
or go off trail and scale an easy class 3 peak.
keep doing it! my 35 years of memories are cherished. i climbed until i couldn't.
do the same.
I LOVE this encouragement! Thank you so so much! ❤️ This helps more than you know! :) I love the tips too! :) Now I want to go back and check those out!
@@HeidiAnnHikes collecting memories is under rated. they last so much longer than material things and all you have to do is think about them to bring out a smile.
i'm about to turn 70, climbed my last peak (Mt Pollock - again) at age 61, biked to the pass that year too. a lower back disability worsened over time and i couldn't do some things anymore...(do things while you can.)
so i retired in the Andes. exploring Ecuador. still collecting memories. it's a worthy pursuit.
@@jerrystraka7856 That is so cool! I would love to know more about that! I just started my adventures as I just realized how much there is out there. :)
@@HeidiAnnHikes if the Park gets unbearable, try some of the trails in Jewel Basin, Ten Lakes, or in the Cabinets, the Missions or Whitefish Ranges (get maps or books for info). plus there's 3 million acres of wilderness just south of the Park. nice trails. great views. less traffic. no fees.
the Glacier Park trailheads off Hwy 2 between West Glacier and East Glacier are seldom used. check them out on a map and choose.....
lots of stuff in NW Montana.
i would also suggest visiting every "pass" in the Park if you can. Siyeh, Piegan, Swiftcurrent, Two Medicine, and Triple Divide (a hidden gem) are all able to be accomplished with day hikes. the Dawson/Pitamakin loop (18 miles) takes you over 3 passes. it's a long day, but so worth it.
just start knocking them off.....and by the time you reach my age? you'll fall asleep smilin' every night
🪁 is it normally very windy ? Or just that day?
I’ve been out there a few times and it became windy one time. We were hiking back through the forest, the wind picked up and then we started to hear trees drop, lol. Weather in those mountains can change quickly. I also don’t recommend hiking on the side of a mountain when it’s windy, lol.
So the nature of it being on the side is conducive for wind. However I think this day was extra windy in the forecast!
