    Would love to see someone do some edge holding tests. Either CATRA or some rope/cardboard to see how it compares to some of the steels out there. Because s125v or rex 121 on Cultrotech knives can cut quite a lot of rope.

Try a round on the shaptop glass ceramic stones and then try that against standard chosera Al/ magnesium oxide stones . I wonder which one would be better for those crystal carbide structures.

    Love the design philosophy and simple style of this knife. Love everything about it except there is no flipper tab. I just don’t enjoy thumb stud/hole opening anymore. Still very cool, but that’s why I’m passing. If a flipper model comes out, I’m all over it. I actually live in the PNW and I’m on the ocean and going camping in the woods for days on end many times a year.

    There is another cool way to open knife like this one, you hold it only by thumb studs between thumb and index finger, then by swing you deploy scales and catch them. This way blade that is sharp is stationary and during deployment can not cum something involuntarily.

    David Boye has been making Dendritic Cobalt knives for a lotta years..he originally came of with dendritic steel in knives in the 80s...hes been showing off the cutting ability of dendritic steels and cobalts at knife shows by cutting huge spools of kevlar and spectra ropes used to moor huge ships with the same knife for 1000s of cuts...
    many of the men in his family were sailors were you just had to have a rust proof knife...his father got one of these huge mooring lines wrapped around his leg and unfortunately lost his leg...even though several sailors were using every knife on the ship trying to saw thru the rope...since then Boye knew he had to make a knife that would be rust free, non magnetic, and above all be able to cut like a laser thru just about any fibrous material..

    • @JimSkeltonKnives
      @JimSkeltonKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Boye really pioneered this concept. While Terravantium and how it’s made into a blade is slightly different, the concept and benefits are essentially the same.

    Blade stock thickness is 0.150. It could be a little bit...(thinner is what I'm thinking since 0.125 is plenty strong and it helps in cutting ability) thicker.
    Well I guess we all have our own preferences. Just got a Cultrotech Slim (so glad to add to my Russian knife collection, love supporting my people) and its blade stick is 2mm/0.080 and it cuts really nice. Its ground a bit thicker than was advertised but doing a regrind on a Cultrotech even if it's a Bronze series is blasphemy.

    Great review! I have a carbon fiber version on the way. This one does have a lock bar insert/ over-travel stop. I was concerned that it might be a knockoff (haven't seen one yet), so I emailed Mike and Patrick. Surprisingly, they both got back to me the same day, with different responses.
    Mike said they added them to make the lock fit better, and it's all titanium.
    Patrick said they were "completely unnecessary", but were added "to appease the expectations of the general knife consumer." Can you tell which one is the true designer?

    I have used Talonite which is very similar cobalt alloy to Terravantium and the edge holding is not better than properly heat treated premium steel... The cobalt alloy is much more prone to deformation if you cut hard stuff.. but on cardboard, it's doing pretty well tho.

It’s so frustrating watching you do it with no effort. The detent when it’s closed is very tight and it’s hurting my thumb when I try to flick it. It’s hard to get past that closed lock position to flick it. I’m practicing lol.

    So when it eventually DOES need sharpening... how do you sharpen it? Just like any other knife?
    Also, when you said that the blade could bend easier than steel... how bendable are we talking? I don't usually pry manhole covers up with a pocket knife, but I would like to know how soft that blade is?

    • @JimSkeltonKnives
      @JimSkeltonKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be sharpened like any other knife, sure.
      As far as the malleability.. I can’t say for certain. My blade still looks like new and performs perfectly. But as you mentioned, I’m not using a knife as a prybar, so I’ve never worried about the material’s softness.

I also do not care about super steels , and the price on this knife $380.00 is way out of my budget. I think I will stay with my Spyderco knives and traditional folders none of them have let me down not even in 1095 carbon steel though it needs more care from rust. That is my opinion what I like buy what you like and can afford there are no winners in knife opinions or debates. It all comes down to personal choice and use of a knife and your budget is a factor as well. There is no perfect everything knife.

      @@JimSkeltonKnives i don’t need a 300 dollar knife for a box…..but I can see you have good tastes in guns…..we all have our tastes but for overly priced knives I’ll pass…..guns are a different topic and I’ll spend for the features I want

      @@arthurpineapplepen5209 the point is, what you said sounds like “why spend $1,000 on a fridge when I can buy a couch for that much?” It makes no sense. When I’m buying knives, I’m not considering guns. When I buy guns, I’m not considering knives. I buy what I like of both, one purchase never contradicts the other.

      @@JimSkeltonKnives you’re too defensive ….I think u did a great job on the video and very thorough but I simply can’t see spending that kind of money on a knife but could see me spending that and more on a gun……….we all have our priorities and cutting a box with a plus 300 box is some peoples perogative but definitely not for me.

    All these 400 dollar folding knives are sold out. I hope you’ve been properly compensated.

      I don’t get paid by anyone for anything. These were sold out before I made the video. As I said in the video, they’re only made in small batches and released in drops that sell out very quickly. If you follow their IG, you’ll see the announcements for future drops.

    I still remember you fronting for those shitty watch "companies" on TV. I'll pass on this one.

      Hey, cool story. Thanks for sharing chief! I’m glad you took time out from testing how many soup cans you could fit in your ass to post this intellectual and relevant comment.

    Too much money for a cardboard cutter.

      Very inexpensive in this world. And it’s definitely more than a cardboard cutter
