Like Landotter1 said 3 years ago, drill holes with a piece of scrap underneath. It will prevent blowout on the exit side of the drilled hole and also guarantee you won't accidentally break the board in half!

you could also use a piece of EVA under your work area when you're putting the turrets. cheap and easy to find in big quantities (if you want to cut some "backup pieces", ya know, just in case).

@TubeDepotTV If you etch all the copper away on a blank pcb, the material is epoxy usually, so thats why I got the idea, its thinner that the material ur using but it will do,
    thanks

I love your videos. Ever consider doing a point by point full build vid of a 100 watt plexi? So much gets unexplained due to the time constraint but Id love to see it. Also, youre in memphis correct? Im on the opposite side of the state here in knoxville. Id love to visit the birthplace of the blues

Any reason not to use a drill press?

5:23 try putting the lower half of the handle in a vise, it will free up a hand

A small drill press and a brad-point drill bit seems like a better way to drill the holes cleanly and evenly centered. Finding a #43 brad point drill bit might be tricky; use a smaller brad-point drill to pilot-drill all the holes and then ream the holes out with a normal #43 bit.

I use a dog-leg debur tool at work and it is quick and painless. i'm sure you know what those are. :-D I work on Navy P3's. Thanks for not taking me the wrong way. It wasn't my aim. Anyway. I really like your videos. You are a very good teacher. Now, If you know something about a silver face Fender Bassman 10 with no balancing pot. I'd love to know how to bias that thing....

Thanks for this great informative video. Though I think you have convinced me that using epoxy board (although it looks great) is way more complicated/time consuming than I want to deal with. I'm going to stick with fiberboard.

Right on. How do you know what size turret to use with the #43 drill bit, and where do you get them?

What is the name of that pliers? Is it the same for the eyelet?

1st, Drill the board with a scrap pice of 2X4 or whatever under it. Hole will be cleaner with no tear-out or chip-out on the opposite side. 2nd, Before you drill, turn the drill bit a couple times with light pressure. This sets the position even better than the punch only. 3rd, You can use a countersink bit to debur the holes. In the case you presented, a 3/8 drill bit will debur just dandy. No pressure on the deburing. Just cut the burr. Same goes for sheet metal. Just saying...

My problem is that my amp doesn't have this pot and it would need to be modified if I want to add it. Unfortunately, I am not a tube guy and I don't know much about them. My electronics training started with transistors and the 8088uP. :-D I am having a rough time finding a fairly clean schematic for the bassman 10 so I can determine where to add this pot and resistor. From what I can determine, mine is a self biasing circuit and if I understand it right it is from a RC circuit.

You mention that the hand press gets difficult to operate with a 3/32" die on a 1/8" board. Can one expect accuracy of final hole size and angle, if a smaller "starter" hole (1/16"?) is made first then followed by the 3/32" die?
A recommendation for a robust & accurate hand press would be much appreciated!

I have a turret board that i would need to cut, what is the best way to do a clean job?

  • @Landotter1
    @Landotter1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

Bro, I was simply offering some useful pointers. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade. I have drilled many holes through many different materials. Sure, I could offer aviation tools to do a quick and good job but that is beyond the scope, I figured. No one said that you had to debur by hand. Just if in a drill, no pressure should be added. Only trying to help bro. If I spoke out of turn, my apologies.

Plexi is a bad choice because of the heat. Tight turrets loosen and fall out after soldering. I had better luck with Lexan brand. More tolerant to heat.
I've seen other builders use hardwoods for small boards too.

I was thinking exactly the same, a flame AAA maple board with translucent paint is wonderful.
