    You can buy any citric acid instead of their packets
    The instructions say to use 1 packet, which is 30 grams. This works out to be 2 tablespoons. 😁

    tl;dr for people who've seen this already and coming back again:
    - 30g of citric acid
    - dissolve in cup of warm water
    - pour into boiler
    - fill with water until max line
    - press & hold REBOIL button for 3 seconds to start cleaning (1.5 hrs to finish)
    - pour out water when done
    - fill boiler with water to max line for rinsing and let it reboil
    - once boiled, dispense 1 cup of hot water from the spout
    - pour out the rinsing water

    I used this citrus acid cleaner product 1 year after I purchased my water boiler. I would say it cleaned it up about 98% and I'm fine with it because it was really nasty inside with the lime scale build-up. I boiled up the water boiler one more time and drained it through the dispenser because I still saw some sediment in my cup. The water cleared up after this.

      Hi there, it sounds like the liner has iron and calcium deposits. Please try performing a citric acid cleaning as instructed once again. If the minerals remain, then please use one cup of bottled lemon juice instead of citric acid and perform a cleaning. Once the cleaning cycle is done, keep the solution warm overnight. The next day, unplugged the water boiler and dispose of the solution once it's cool. Repeat if minerals remain. If not, boil fresh water and dispense a couple of cups of water, then unplug the water boiler and dispose of the water once it's cool. • @ZojirushiAmerica
      @ZojirushiAmerica  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Daphne, water has minerals that are part of its composition. These minerals will accumulate on the surface of the liner over time and use. It's recommended to perform regular citric acid cleaning every 1 - 3 months to prevent excess accumulation. Always follow the cleaning and maintenance guidelines in the manual to prevent damage to the unit. Using abrasive cleaners will damage the nonstick coating. Thank you for sharing your alternatives. While you can use lemon juice (bottled, not fresh) and vinegar, they are very mild in comparison to citric acid. This means that you will need to perform the descaling procedure more often. If this is something you would rather do, then use one cup of either lemon juice from a bottle or vinegar and follow the procedure for descaling detailed in your instruction manual. Hope this helps!

    • @ZojirushiAmerica
      @ZojirushiAmerica  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! That indicates that your lid is very worn and is in need of replacement. @ZojirushiAmerica  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, if you have performed a citric acid cleaning cycle then the internal components would have been cleaned. We recommend to clean the spout by wiping it with a well wrung cloth. If you have had your water boiler for quite some time, we would recommend to inspect the lid for signs of wear as it may need replacement. The plastic components of the lid may start to deteriorate over time due to the constant heat and steam.

      Hi there! Citric acid is just concentrated citrus juice in powder form that helps descale the minerals accumulated in the water boiler. If you find that you still have minerals then it probably needs to be cleaned again. You can also try the following method. This is best done at the end of the day:
      1. place one cup of lemon juice from a bottle (NOT fresh) into the water boiler.
      2. Fill the water boiler with water up to the max line.
      3. start a cleaning cycle.
      4. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, set it to keep warm and keep it overnight.
      5. Next day, unplug the water boiler then let the water cool down and dispose of it.
      6. Fill again with water and boil it, then dispense a cup. Then dispose of the water again.
      After this, the water boiler should be ready for use. This method takes a while but will help get rid of some stubborn minerals. Please let us know if you have any questions!

      Hi Fun Guy, it's recommended to clean it every 1-3 months. If the water being used has a high mineral content, then it should be cleaned once a month. I hope this helps!

    Can you use vinegar instead?

      Thank you for your inquiry. You can use 6 oz of white vinegar and then fill the water up to the Max line. Please note that we would recommend using Zojirushi Citric Acid Cleaner : www.zojirushi.com/app/spare_parts/item/CD-K03EJU.

    That’s way too precious y’all. Just throw a bit of vinegar in there from time to time and rinse.
