They are called test leads. The generic leads were a lousy fit and definitely don't inspire much confidence. Replace them and you'll be much better off. Not one of AstroAI shining moments.
How to check a AAA cell or for that matter any dry cell? Wall clock battery 1.5 Volt often requires replacement so we should know when we should garbage it.
12:00 this is the only meter I have and I've used it for over a year without a problem. I just thought all multimeters took 10 seconds to beep for continuity. Hm so maybe it would be worth it to upgrade one day. But without a doubt this thing does test continuity, you just gotta wait a few seconds for it. We've done many successful repairs around the house and car with this thing.
Hi Darren, I'm trying to understand your diode tests. Voltage drop on diode I understand. But with the LED tests thereafter, was the expectation that you'd see a voltage drop there too? Also does this unit display 1 instead of OL for an 'Open Line' situation?
Hi Neil, typically, the forward voltage of an LED is between 1.8 and 3.3 volts. It varies by the color of the LED. A great multimeter will display the LED fv and illuminate it as well. This dmm reads as OL for Open. 👍
I think I paid 11 bucks for this meter to have as an extra one. Every home owner should have one at this price to make sure they don't electrocute themselves. I think it's nicer than the free one I got at harbor freight. I think that meter is great too. I notice all the cheap meters are accurate enough for basic testing. Durability is where they fail. If you are going to use only once in a while a sub 15 dollar meter is fine. One last thing. I have been a field tech for 20 years and I have never seen anybody do the tap continuity method. You hold the meter firmly on the test points and give it a second.
Great feedback!😀👍As a former systems integration lead while pcb troubleshooting I can tell you there's multiple ways to do a continuity test . Fast tap demo simply shows the quickness to latch .Yes in the field you probably wouldn't use this but it doesn't negate the test itself. Build wise, It's an OK multimeter for the price but still there's better for just a few bucks more.
Darren Walker thanks for indicating the lead size. I thought there were complaints about them being too short but 30 inches is not short. You’re sure about the positive being on the left..??
How about the frequency range of the AC volts? It would be very useful to know if it worked not only at mains frequency but at audio frequencies - maybe up to 1 kHz - or press our luck at 20 kHz?
@@KeepOnTesting I wasn't talking about measuring frequency itself. All AC voltmeters have frequency limitations. Some will only measure accurately at 50 or 60 Hz power/mains frequencies and become very inaccurate when the AC frequency is only a few hundred Hz. For audio work, voltmeters that remain accurate up to 20 kHz are valuable. If I were evaluating multimeters, it would be something I'd check ... and it's not difficult to do.
@@billwhitlock Roger that.. some higher end meters have ac voltage measurements up to 100kHz - but these are $$$ ,, most CHEAP-O multimeters are limited to 1kHz or less. True RMS or not will also play a role.
