Your response to Opera and Pavarotti is spot on. I applaud you for being open to different music styles. What Pavarotti does with his voice took many years of training. He was a Master of his instrument. RIP Luciano Pavarotti!
There is something about this song. The music, his voice, and the way it all comes to a crescendo, brings tears to my eyes. It just feels so emotional and reaches deep within you with an overwhelming sense of beauty.
That is the triumph of opera. Something is called “operatic” if it does this. But there are so many other great arias that Pavarotti has recorded (and others too-try Jussi Bjoerling) that will make you emotional. Listen to “Che gelida manina” (“your hands are so cold” because she, his love, is dying of tuberculosis) next.
i remembered my husband/fiancé asked me if I'd like to see Pavarotti as he would be here to perform in Honolulu. oh for sure, yes. He was a keeper that man. I can tell you story of the opera, the character and reason this is a killer song. It's a Rumpelstiltskin type story. Drop me a message. OK? I did a lot of edits here, it's too much. My father gifted voice 4 octave range. He chose to be an entrepreneur instead of singer but he was constantly in a Light Opera, or Broadway style musicals or vocal groups. I asked my mom why daddy doesn't have to attend church with us. Father actually responded that he went to church enough already...as a soloist, choir member, weddings on and on. ok peace love.
So proud of a young man like you with a heart to appreciate all kinds of music. You say you're finding out who you are. I see an amazing young man who will become All God intends for you to be with all the gifts and talents He placed in you in a unique way like no other. God Bless you always!

But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No… no… On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
I will ALWAYS venture into musical territories I’m unfamiliar with. How else do you discover new avenues of JOY. Same goes for food and art. Our 5 senses CRAVE stimulation. It’s what makes life worth living.
There’s a version of this with subtitles in English. If you go to an opera performance most places today they project a translation above the stage during the performance.
I'm not into classical music & I was 1st introduced to opera music as it was used to accompany the world cup Italia 90, but what a magnificent performance, listening to that piece of music again 30 years on made me feel quite emotional 👌🎶🏴, Wow I had to watch that again & Pavarotti gave that everything, I could see the intensity & passion in his face at the end of that👌
I think that's fare. I grew up listing to Italian music I'm 52 years old and now just starting to appreciate it. It really gives me chills the more I listen to it. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your opinion, On this wonderful Opera. Opera, isn't for everyone, and you have to learn to acquire it. Luciana Pavarotti, was such a great and powerful singer.
I am and have been a Pavarotti fan for 40+ years now. This performance of Nessun Dorma is one of his greatest. I truly enjoyed hearing the humility, wisdom and courage of your commentary just as much as Pavarotti's singing. Well done!
Yes, he brings out emotions when he sings - goosebumps, hair-raising, heart beating faster, tears forming, etc. He will continue to do so as long as we have such recordings. Many folks use the word "heaven" after listening to his singing.
His version of Caruso is well worth a listen. Maria Callas or Montserrat Caballé are also phenomenal opera singers who could reach notes that normal humans can only dream of.
Even worse than disrespecting Pavarotti or whoever you dismissed, you are throwing away a chance to experience the sublime. Those moments in life that just take your breath away don't come often. Do not rob yourself of them! Carpe Diem!
Nessun Dorma - No one Sleeps- is from Puccini’s opera about a Chinese fairytale princess, “ Turandot”. Puccini could sure write the melodies and has inspired many pop songs.
Wilburn, this is the first time I've heard a reaction of yours, and I REALLY appreciate the fact that you don't interrupt the performance. You said it and you meant it. I've listened to many reactors and they ALL interrupt...sometimes once, usually multiple times. Thank you for waiting for the music to stop before speaking. That shows respect...and you have mine!
You have a great personality and a great smile. You were smart to wait until the end of the performance to offer your reaction. Most people with their reaction videos don’t do that and it’s very frustrating. Bravo to you for broadening your musical horizons, 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I enjoy your reaction. I am not an opera expert but Pavorotti touch my soul when I was a teenager. His voice was really a gift and it is a an emotional and special experience everytime you listen his voice and even more his stage performances. (only video now). I appreciate your opinion. Greetings from Lima, Perú. Sorry I am not an English speaker.
You should be proud of your level of appreciation...yes...genre aside, imho God...'spoke' though this man and I weep...with sheer ecstasy every time I hear it.
Love your reaction to this and what you have said. If you like Pavarotti and James Brown, you need to see the video of the concert of them singing It is a Man's World. You will be blown away of how both classical and soul meet for this iconic moment.
The song is from the opera Turnadot. There are suitors who want to marry the princess. They have to answer 3 questions. If they are wrong they will be executed. He answers the questions and the princess pleads not to marry him so the prince tells her she has to guess his name in the morning and if she guesses his name he will die in the morning. This is the song he sings as he awaits morning. Someone put the translation in the comments.
You nailed this reaction. Music like this can make you cry because it’s so beautiful….and many do. Music is great when it touches you, no matter what kind it is
Your comments were really thoughtful and show that you appreciate the artistry in music. I have only attended Opera one time, and it was my daughter who arranged it, as a special gift for my 81-year old mother (who had never seen an Opera, either). It too was performed in Italian; but over the stage was a marquee that scrolled translation, so we could follow the story. I have to tell you, seeing how thrilled my mother was, moved me as much as the performance itself! It was truly beautiful. My mom has been gone for awhile now, but I think of her whenever I hear great operatic music.
Absolutely magnificent! This type of singing takes years of work, it’s not just going to a mic and opening your mouth! I totally love ever type of music a lot. But whatever I love, it comes nowhere near opera and classical! This young man, is talking absolutely truth. If you only like one type of music how narrow is that!
This is why popra has now become a popular music genre. Taking classical singing and crossing it with pop to create a blend with artists now able to make a great living out of it.
Good one Chod, you make some good points..when i reached 50 (57 now) it worried me that I hadn't formed any concrete ideas and would often change my opinion of something when I learned new info about it...i spoke to an elderly friend of mine about this and he said 'If you still have the same opinion about something when you are 50,as when you were 21,then you haven't learned v much have you?'......he's since passed but those wise words have stuck with me ever since and i don't fret about changing my opinion on anything these days.He always came out with the line'you have two ears and one mouth..use 'em in that ratio' lol....so true...keep up the good work my friend (i can feel another Gentle Giant song coming our way:) )

Always loved checking out different music. When I was a teen, I got a huge pile of 78's from my grandparents on my dad's side. Music from the 30's and 40's mostly, a little opera too. I was "in the closet" about my love of swing music, the opera always made me wonder how they hit notes like they do. It also made me think I was born decades too late, but it did give me a ridiculously broad taste in music. After my grandmother died in 2002, I dropped the 78's off at the local University, 4 boxes of them, about 250-300 of them in total. I thought that was what she would have wanted, she was a librarian for 52 years. I also donated a box of First Nations (Native American) artifacts she left me in her will, along with a manuscript, to a museum here that bore the manuscript author's name. I thought that was where that stuff belonged. My grandmother was a proponent of knowledge and history being available freely to the public. I kind of took after her that way. If you're loving the opera vibe, there are lots of suggestions for Pav already, but here's something else... "Time to say Good-bye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. Andrea is one of my favourite opera singers, his voice is so rich, and Sarah is a fantastic singer as well. Andrea has been blind for most of his life, and Sarah tends to help him on-stage with movement. They're very good friends in real life. Here's a TH-cam link [ th-cam.com/video/4L_yCwFD6Jo/w-d-xo.html ] that hopefully works for you. It's a performance in 2007 that's probably the very best version I've heard. You have a good one boss.
I think some people don't want to look stupid, because they don't understand what is going on. Sometimes some people still hold on to that "high school" attituded. "Oh that sucks". Some just don't want to take the time, which is fine. They are probably interested in other things. I still don't understand what is going on in operas. What helps me is reading a summary of the opera. Sometimes if there is a movie I will watch it, such as, Les Miserables. I even listened to the book. The opera is the best. IMO I haven't read a libretto. Maybe one day. But I did read The Three Figaro Plays, which helped the operas I saw of Figaro. I had to watch this opera, because of The Little Rascals.
Well said Chod, they {people now seem not to expose themselves to "older" music} as you said the mobs they ran or hung out with preasure you into being stuck in a time warp

You are right. My life is filled with music. I love Pavarotti (opera), Blues, Soul, Discom from the 70's/80's, ACDC, BLACK SABBATH, SRV, QUEEN, PINK FLOYD, old songs from 30/40/50's, Ballads and more. Country is tho not on my happy list. I grew up in the 60's and music is a big part of me.
You owe it to yourself to listen to Natalie Trayling. She has quite a story. A pianist who was homeless at times and who never liked to play inside but on the street for the people as she has said. She made up these beautiful melodies, some untitled as she sits at the keyboard and plays. She is from Australia and she is handicapped with severe arthritis but her son pushes her keyboard around and she plays on the streets. Just listen to her one composition titled "You asked for Me", simply beautiful.
I LOVE Opera, this aria sung by the Maestro always gives me chills and tears to my eyes. Another favorite is The Queen of Night aria sung by Diana Damrau. Would like to see what you think if you haven't already done so.
