First, I love your videos, they’re so high quality, informative and interesting. Second, your one piece video was very encouraging, because of it I started the show and am halfway through the argyle park arc(I think that’s the name?) And finally, definitely gonna watch those two anime, they look dope lol. Thanks for anyone who read my essay lol
I gotta finally watch Serial Experiments Lain because when you mentioned Boa, I instantly thought of her song from Inuyasha. She's definitely super talented. I'd argue that all of Satoshi kon's catalog consists of cult classics. Movies like Perfect Blue and Paprika have more relevance than ever in the age of the internet where the line between fiction and reality blurs.
Samurai Champloo really is so good. Like you said, it is (subjectively) perfect. It has remained in my top five for over a decade. You also showed clips from Akira and Perfect Blue. Both of those movies are amazing, and especially the former's impact and influence on all types of media since its release is undeniable. I guess one cult classic or niche series I never hear people talk about (although I'm not really involved in anime spheres) is Wolf's Rain. It has an amaaazing soundtrack by Yoko Kanno who also composed for Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I consumed all these series around the same time and they all convey existentialist themes. Wolf's Rain is definitely worth a watch if existentialism is your jam, and the English dub is quite good if you'd rather not read subtitles.
Haibane renmei is not only my favorite show, it's my favorite work of fiction. It's just sad that i don't get to talk about it outside of a small facebook group that is primarily composed of foreigners.
First of all , thank you for actually knowing about Serial Expriments Lain ,awesome show. You should check out Ergo Proxy ,that is another anime that will be known as a cult classic and Armitage is another one that could be a cult classic too
Samurai Champloo is one of the top art pieces that exist in whole animation world. It has the best story with mix of music and graphic style. I just the scene you used in the video from baseball episode. This scene is hilarious.
For me it's Kino's Journey from 2003. I just always come back to it. A masterpiece that sticks in your head even a decade later. Close personal second is Toward the Terra (Terra e...) it sparked my love of sci-fi, introduced me to 70s manga and caused my dive into mecha then 70s/80s anime.
It's not an anime, and not a show, but... I never see anyone talking about a couple of movies that are cult classics for me... and if anyone out there does happen to know them, you are awesome people. The Adventures of Bukaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and A Scanner Darkly are my "Cult" classics
Texhnolyze may be too obscure even to be considered a cult classic, but it's really good if you enjoy stuff like Serial Experiments Lain and Haibane Renmei (which share Yoshitoshi Abe as a character designer) or Ergo Proxy. Also, this one I wouldn't deem as good and in no way a cult classic, but I just want to use an opportunity to mention ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. It's not my usual type of jam and I can't recall what prompted me to give it a try at the time, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit for some reason. It just stood out to me in some ways. And the soundtrack is nice.
If someone were to ask me off the top of my head what is an anime I'd call a cult classic it would be ghost in the shell. However if we're talking about an anime that I've never forgotten and that I probably never wiol, then it'd be Amagi brilliant park. It's sort off the forgotten kyoani show and it's generally considered a meh show but somehow it did something that touched me, never have I felt so happy to see mundane things happen to characters and heartbroken when something unfortunate happens to them
The band who did the intro to Lain came back to life after being gone for 10 years thanks to the internet. They were very very small back then and are now doing a sold out US Tour (which I will be at!). And you don't seem to understand... *Edit: Didn't think you'd actually talk about the band! Wow yes hope you were able to get tickets. It is a once in a life opportunity. Take it from an old man who never thought I'd get to see them live.
One example of a cult classic when it comes to anime is Black Lagoon. The anime will always be a classic and a good recommendation alongside Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to a friend who just getting start into anime...... FUN FACT: Did you know that Boondocks was inspired by Samurai Champloo especially when it comes to the OP visuals and music.
@@juanblanco7898 Yeah you might be right, I though about it longer and evangelion is actually the 10th biggest anime franchise so if you get to the top tenth franchises you can't really call it a "cult classic" just a classic.
Lain doing her Cereal Experiments

Ergo Proxy is one of my favorite series of all time and the quintessential cult classic
The first video you made was great and then this video was even better! Can't wait to see how far you get

Samurai Champloo getting praise in this video was not what I expected but I'm beyond happy my favourite anime of all time is getting recognition

Phenomenal video. You've inspired me to want to write up a script and make videos on topics that I'm passionate about. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thank you. Comments like these are why I do it ♥

Nice vid! Do you have an animelist? If so, care to share?

Could you class JoJo as a cult classic?? If so that’d be it for me🔥
gunbuster 💪
It’s not really a cult classic, and the animation or story plot aren’t as good as others, but I love Blue Period.
FLCL Mentioned 😋😍

Watanabe only works with the best composers:
Nujabes
Yoko Kanno
need I list more?
Cant believe you didnt mention evangelion
It's arguably a bit too mainstream, I'd say.

Hellsing for me
gurren lagann is a cult classic imo
