Matt 12:31, 'And so I tell you, EVERY kind of SIN and slander CAN BE FORGIVEN, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. The problem with your initial analogy about the punch is that you didn't consider the agency or freewill of both the policeman and president to not press charges or in other words, to forgive. When considered, it doesn't work so well to answer the question asked. According to the bible, it is the SIN of unbelief that is punished infinitely (besides the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit which is actually done in unbelief): John 8:24, 'I told you that you would die in your sins; if you DO NOT BELIEVE that I am he, you will INDEED die in your sins'. Also... John 3:18 - Whoever BELIEVES IN HIM is NOT condemned, but whoever DOES NOT BELIEVE stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
" His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground, in that day his thoughts do perish. "

Eternal life is by faith, not works. Eternal death is by (un)faith, not by works.
