As a sax player in a loud springsteeny/Americana type band my advice before getting to gear is NEVER ASSUME THE SOUND GUY UNDERSTANDS OR GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE SAX! I Use a Roland ve20, a cheap clip on mic (don't spend more than 75 dollars), a mini headphone thru box and some big old fashioned phones - the bigger the better for weight as in-ear things with thin leads will fly out if snagged. Just tell the sound guy to stick his end (ooer! ) into the behringer and you're off. You can now add a bit of reverb etc, and get your volume in your phones. To hear more of the band just take one side phones off. Before I reached this light and effective solution I tried lots of stuff. Be prepared or you may find the sound man has run out of mics/time and the singer wants u quieter (read Off) in the fold back!

Check out the Ploeger Sound Mirror. I don't think they make it anymore but there might be a similar product.

Jazzlab make a Sound Deflector. It's amazing, and is around $35 bucks.

My sax setup is already loud as hell “Dukoff Miami D7” tenor and the damn sound guy always turns down my mic mid gig and it pisses me off cause I can barely hear myself anymore. You’re absolutely right that no matter how loud I am the drummer and guitars always turn their shit way up. Drives me nuts bro.

I play Dukoff 8* on alto. I always play quieter until the solos.

Man I wish I had this video way earlier haha. I play with a guitar,drummer,piano/organist and full choir. I could never hear myself with my mic so I bought a mouth cannon so I can hear myself. Yes I could kinda hear myself but the speakers from above was blasting louder to the audience so now I'm overblowning and sticking out like a sore thumb
    No solution was solved haha

Any in-ear monitor mixer would do the job. Behringer got super cheap one that does the job perfectly.
