    Great to see Gil Melle getting some love. I have the Toshiba vinyl release of Patterns in Jazz but none of those Japanese 10 inch pressings.
    Definitely agree that vibes and flute give a summer feel to a lot of music.
    I'm lucky enough to have all those Hutcherson releases, a couple are Liberty pressings and Oblique is the Japanese original on King with the funky 70's artwork. That one was costly even 10 years ago. I do prefer the cover on the re-issue, though. Coincidentally my copy of Patterns is the Connoisseur vinyl.
    I live in Tokyo in case you're wondering how I have so many of these Japanese pressings. 😊
    As far as the BN pressing with a Japanese insert. Yes, I have seen that too on a couple of my Blue Notes and I've reached the same conclusion, pressed in the States and shipped to Japan where an insert was added.
    I'll definitely need something to cool me down for the nasty summer ahead.

      Wow cool! I would like to have that Connoisseur pressing of Patterns if I ever found it for a reasonable price. And yes I know about those nasty Japanese summers now 😓

    Oh man.. I have Oblique as well from the TP collection. I really love it too.
    I have a challenge for you-
    The ultimate Summer LP (well of course this is my opinion). I want you to stream Charles Lloyd “ Forest Flower” recorded at the Monterey Jazz Festival 1967.
    The album cover is so Summer. The music is spectacular. The lineup:
    Charles Lloyd, Cecil McBee, Keith Jarrett, and Jack DeJohnette.
    At one point, a plane flies over and it’s easily picked up.. I always imagined it was an old plane, pulling a banner advertising the festival somewhere near the beach L O L
    The crowd is extremely into the session and makes it all worth listening to ..: any time I’m kind of down, this album picks me up and puts a smile on my face. The music is just incredible. Jarrett has a solo that just blows me away.

    Great content.I can definitely see Season influenced jazz albums being a thing.There are certain songs I only play in autumn because of I first heard them at that time of year.A version of Autumn Leaves by Vince Gauraldi and Pat Methyneys Last Train Home.

    “Oblique” is a fantastic album. It didn‘t come out until 1979, and then only in Japan. I‘ve opined before that the reason probably why it never got released initially is that it was Alfred Lion‘s second-to-last session as a producer, and I assume that it fell through the cracks with the chaos ensuing his retirement. Lion would return to the RVG studio a week later after “Oblique” for a Stanley Turrentine session which also remained unreleased - that would be his last time in the studio, in the summer of 1967.

      @@dgmono Oh, I don't have any physical copy, only FLACs of most digital editions. I like the Japanese UCCQ CD the most in terms of sound. I'm out of the Tone Poet game, as I'm not happy either with packaging nor sound. Also, I prefer the original cover, even if the photo is anachronistic. Apart from the Tone Poet there is only the original Japanese LP, but the prices for that are too high for what I'm comfortable to pay. -crispi

      @@vinylarchaeologist I'm very curious about your critiques of the Tone Poets. I think Joe's dynamic, wide mastering style has some great strengths. Never loved RTI like everyone else though. And most people feel the packaging is second-to-none, what's your critique there?

      @@dgmono Oh yes, the mastering certainly has strenghts. I‘m in the minority who would have preferred an approach with slightly punchier mids, some cross between Tone Poets and Japanese Kings (won‘t mention original VAN GELDERs, as those are a bit all over the place, but they also have punchy mids but sometimes lacking treble energy).
      Now, the packaging seems to get all of the accolades, but I‘ve seen better modern-day tip-on style gatefold from Europe (on the Neil Young series). The Stoughtons are somewhat brittle at the seams and always bend a bit. Something tells me they won‘t hold up well over the years. Again, pure personal preference and OCD.

    nice list. Me personally i associate alot of the 70s jazz funk/soul and avant garde stuff as great summer listens
