    That’s exactly how I was taught around 40 years ago. Works perfect every time! Great video.

    Yeah I always do the TDC on compression stroke method but I am usually by myself and usually never in a hurry.

      I have talked to John, Randy, Milton and the others several times at tracks, what you see on TH-cam is exactly what you get in person, bunch of laid back guys.

    This may be out dated knowledge, but waaay back 1983 I had a 71 Chevelle SS. I used to have to reset valves with the car running, the ones that are clacking, tighten till it stops, then tighten 1/4 turn. Is that even done that way anymore? Can get messy though! 😂

      1/4 turn past zero lash is how you adjust hydraulic lifters. John is showing how to adjust solid lifters which has to be done with a feeler gauge. Solid lifters always have to have some amount of lash (gap) vs hydraulic lifters. Adjusting hydraulic lifters while the engine is running is totally unnecessary.

      @@timothygoodsell1446 I learned this is solid lifters, not hydraulic, solid lifters have to be done this way. Anyway, if he does it standing on his head, he must be doing something right, because this thing flies! Literally!!! ✌😂

    Hm, a lot of loose lashes there. Hope that doesn’t mean something bad is happening. Have heard Steve Morris say many times that if lash has changed significantly that something in the valve train is broken.

    The camshaft has a lot of lift

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does! This engine has more compression, more cam but s but less ci than his old engine.

    I can lash those valves in 2 rotations, inspect the plugs and save a lot wear and tear on starter and ring. You are saying bump and I am hearing crunch. bump bump bump crunch crunch crunch. Write the four positions and the corresponding valves down.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, he really needs to install a bump button so he can control the amount of engine rotation while watching the rockers.

      @@danmyers9372 I love his stuff and I learn a lot but I hate to see somebody miss the basics. There's four stops and if you do the right valves in each position, you are soitenetly on the base, knyuck knyuck
