Ah that bittersweet, awkward yet pleasant feeling of seeing someone you still care about and miss but in a melancholic way knowing that life has moved on...
I used to thought they get back together at the end, but now watching it as a adult I think it hints that they're both doing great in their own way, and they're happy for each other
i was about to say the same thing, i watched this as a kid and always hated the ending bc i thought they were getting back together but seeing it now, i guess it’s up for interpretation though definitely feels more like they were just being friendly & never actually going to meet again to catch up lol
Yes, it shows us that they were both good people, nice to each other, but they couldn't make a good couple together. Many times, when relationships become toxic, it doesnt necessarily mean one is good and the other one is bad, it only means they lack compatibility. This was a good movie on this issue.
I always thought they'd get back together at the end and now as an adult I'm certain. lol Of course they're extra happy about seeing each other again. And the reason is exactly because they're doing fine by themselves. When they broke up they knew they loved each other. But they were just too hurt to go on together. Then they let that emotional mess behind, grew up, became more mature and now they're more prepared to share their best sides.
@@luizotaviocfg Yes, this could be a good point. But i still question their coming back together. I dont think it will happen. They r both good people and they still care for each other, but making a "couple" needs a compatibility that they didnt have. They r surely more mature now, but i think most likely they r (each one of them) prepared now to receive someone (else) truly compatible in their respective life of each. The movie gives us the possibility to see the end according to our own perspective, it doesnt have a recipe.
@@yafayafa9601 I think there are levels of compatibility, sure. But two different people could work it out. It depends also on the moment they're both in, the maturity, the level of satisfaction with their personal lives... And their feelings for each other play an important role as well, of course. Plus, everyone can commit mistakes, learn from it and change. So, the same couple could work fine in a different moment. But yeah, there are different points of view.
Their relationship wasn't a toxic one. Not every relationship that doesn't work out is toxic. They just had different expectations and wanted different things out of the relationship, and it took them (HER in particular) too long to realize that the other person isn't going to change for them. It happens.
@@rickytikitavi4101 I dont think she wanted him to change for her, i think she only wanted him to appreciate her and meet each other in the middle. For me, these r two different things.
This is so awkward, but very realistic. Bumping into your ex can be tricky. And pretending you're going to meet and catch up, but you know it will never actually happen..
That's often how it works. And sometimes it's for the best. Getting back together with an ex might seem wonderful, but oftentimes the problems that lead to the breakup are still there.
The lesson in this movie is monumental. Some people really are just meant to be friends and it’s best they stay that way. Don’t force something that won’t work and above all don’t resent the other because of it.
Really? He is also a crappy friend, throughout the movie you can see how he treats people around him. I think you completely missed the point of the movie: if you want a meaningful relationship you have to learn to compromise, it’s not all about you. There literally is no I in team or couple.
ALso, if you want to be in a relationship, listening to your partner and being considerate towards them is important. That's a huge part of the movie. Small things culminate into big things@@bigrivtodagled8210
To think, Jennifer and Vince dated for a short time after her divorce from Brad Pitt. Quite ironic that they played a couple going through a break-up in this film.
That's right. I think that's why she gave such a good performance. The film allowed her to process some of the emotions arising from the divorce. Vince was definitely the rebound guy, but he was probably better for her in real life than he was in the film.
I think some people miss the point of this scene. I think they’re too quick to conclude they just didn’t get back together again. I mean, that’s very much possible too but I think it was an open ending, which allows the possibility they also may have gotten back together again, since they’ve allowed themselves time to work on themselves. Just because they needed the space to do that first, doesn’t mean they’re ultimately better off apart. For some people, breaking up was the best thing that ever happened to them because it allowed them the time and space to work on themselves before they got back together and their relationship thrives after that because they’ve become better people who are more compatible with each other. Sometimes absence really does make the heart grow fonder.
Exactly.... Their expressions and admiration for each other doors hint at it.... She doesn't look like she's saying about visiting his boat for formality.... Where it would happen or not is another story, but it is an open ending...
That's actually what happened with Rachel and Ross. They had pathologies they had to figure out before it could work in the long run. Either way, the film's message was that sometimes things either don't work because the aims are different or there's a slump people get into and it just becomes inertial.
If you never saw the whole movie you get wrong with this scene. They still love each other in this scene. No way you act like this after broke up without love. Need to see whole movie to understand this. They needed to grow up, and first of all dont be sellfish. This movie intends to show Gary as a egocentric person, very proud, so he needs to be humbled. After the ir home is sold they seemed to still care and love each other. I see my self here, like Gary, selfish and not apriciate my wife like she deserves 😢
I'm biased because I like Jennifer Aniston a lot, but I didn't care for Vince's character and I didn't think they had any real on-screen chemistry. The whole time I just kept thinking she could do so much better and he was kind of a jerk. I hope Jennifer Aniston is happy in real life and if/when she is ever ready for a relationship, I hope she finds someone who treats her with love and respect.
It is really funny but they actually dated 2005/2006 for a year while they were filming this movie.... and broke up shortly after the movie was realised ...
the brutal reality is she's 55 and past her prime the whole "she can do so much better" thing has held a lot of women back from actually being happy, she dated Brad Pitt and now no man will ever match up (hypergamy at work) and now she's destined to spend her golden years alone.😂
this one is kinda hard to categorize, i always thought of this like a funny movie when i was younger, still always had that feeling that it's a bit too dark and realistic to really be funny. it's a feel good movie for like half of the time without being too rom-com-ish. the fact that they actually broke up in the end always surprised me, the typical happy ending looks different in movies. it's good as it is.
Yeah ending wasn’t as great but I guess it was up to us to think whether or not they got back together later on. They could have…or just stay friends. I think they met up after one year? Well a lot of things can happen in a year. Maybe the timing wasn’t right. Or maybe they needed more time to be set in their careers. Well either way yeah ending could have been better give all of us some closure instead of leaving us wondering if they did get back together or not
Some personalities are like that. Ive always been ill-treated by my boyfriends and they become possessive. Later on they just hate me cause im not submissive. So i decided to stay single @@cameliap1146
I think this hints at them getting back together in the near future after they talk about her coming to ride the boat and them catching up as far as the people saying they are showing here that they have both moved on and are happy.
People CAN change. Circumstances can change. Timing can be a problem and then one day it no longer is. So it all depends on the REASON for the breakup and if that reason is still an ongoing issue. I fell in love with a wonderful man when I was 17. We dated for 2.5 years. He was away at college and I got lonely. I told him I wanted to see other people. It broke his heart. Time went by and I dragged my feet reuniting with him... I stupidly thought he would wait for me to come to my senses. Once I realized what a mistake I had made he was already engaged to someone else. I haven't seen him in decades (he moved out of state) but we still talk/text. He's married with 3 kids. We are in our 50s now. We still talk about what could have been...😭😱😖🤬💔💔💔💔
Gary was such a great man, while Brooke was such an entitled brat. It was very humble of him to be so civil and generous with her after how she behaved.
