i like that you brought things to comfort them instead of just throwing them into the thick of it and saying "deal with it" like a lot of people do with first time campers, camping doesnt have to be miserable to be camping, bring those comforting things, doesnt make it any less camping

I love all of the Miranda in the Wild videos, but I also love how these videos are diversifying activities. I loved the backpacking for the first time w/ a friend and this video because they make the outdoors way less intimidating to people who aren't used to recreating in them.

That's a really cool idea! A channel I LOVE is called Learn Your Land, sounds generic but that young man is highly educated and so passionate it's infectious. Like he says himself though foraging takes proper knowledge and varies drastically from one forest to another, even within the same forest. I think something like that would be outside the degree of what REI could cover in a video without also taking on some form of legal liability. I would really suggest checking out Learn Your Land though, really a gem and you will learn a ton about foraging and the risk and education it entails. Highly recommend!
I have to chuckle re the foraging idea... For my presentation to be a certified museum/nature-interpreter, but couldn't do a program without running into too many liability & legal issues. Even when you've got a super safe, super easy-to-identify plant, so many public spaces are no-zones for foraging, even if it is allowed by common practice. Turns out teaching anything specific about wild food gathering is fraught with complications. I would love to see this kind of content if ever possible, tho. Foraging is one of life's greatest delights & has become a core part of my spiritual & personal growth journey.
"Imperfections are what make these trips so much fun and like make them so memorable.." This is the soul of camping imo, we can only prepare but never able to control all the elements in the trip. And yes, suffering together and finding the solution just make the whole experience actually enjoyable. At last, a good camping buddy is essential too! :D
It’s great to see you accommodate for everyone’s needs when often I feel like the attitude with outdoors is that you have to power through discomfort. I'm so happy to see Miranda in the Adirondacks, and showing her friends that outdoor activities are fun and approachable from any skill level. As someone who lives in the ADKs, I'm always surprised when people who grew up here tell me they don't enjoy the outdoors. I think a lot of people see hiking, camping, canoeing/kayaking as scary and difficult, so I love that Miranda shows how it can be fun and comfortable too.
The outdoors are for everyone! Love the integrated wild experiences to each individual’s comfort levels. Some people like backpacking off the grid while others like glamping. It’s all great ways to get outside and enjoy nature.
For me the best things in this video were how everyone was able to be open about their fears and their willingness to face them with the support of their friend Miranda. Miranda you brought out the best in them, they brought out the best in you, your concern about the weather/lightning was real and I’m sure everyone felt better having a sleepover instead of being scared all night in the rain, thunder and lightning. Superb job on this video from everyone on the team!
As a cub scout mom I feel for Miranda so much! Taking on all the mental load of planning activities and menus, AND equipping a weekend just to have it foiled by weather! Mother Nature has a way of humbling even the most prepared, but oftentimes the fun and the memories lie in the overcoming of challenges and the Tim Gunn moments of making it work. If you haven’t mumbled “well, duck” while camping, you’re doing it wrong.
Ugh. So much anxiety. I think this is why I solo camp. I just feel responsible for everyone’s experience and it really takes away from mine. Kudos to the city kids for making the best of it.
As someone who visits the Adirondacks a fair amount, that was great. Nice to see all of that bonding, and having everyone display such positive attitudes in the face of challenges. Plus you all got to eat at the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery!

I'm an aspiring 46er, and the high peaks are simply a great experience in so many ways. After that, the food! I really enjoy visiting all the local breweries and restaurants. The Adirondacks offer a wealth of outdoors activity, from hiking, to camping, to swimming and boating. There's so much to do and explore! (note: I am not a paid member of any Adirondack organization. I just really enjoy the place)
The positivity was through the roof!!! The joy in your hearts was beaming out of your faces. Not in a weird alien creepy way, in a feelin the love way. Well done ladies. That was a very luxe set up. Would have loved to hear some feedback on all the cool gear
I love sleeping in a tent during a storm. Somehow the feeling/sounds of rain and wind are great for helping to sleep. I rarely sleep well at home without melatonin or something else, but the fresh air and sounds of nature help me calm down and relax. Sometimes I just take a book, a lantern and a tent to relax in nearby parks and beaches. Once spent a week sitting on a beach just reading and fishing (didn't catch anything the whole time) which is something I want to experience again and again. E: The stars and Northern lights are so pretty outside the city.
I think it’s important to make a person’s first camping experience as pleasant as possible. Once they fall in love with living outside, all the fears and discomforts become less noticeable and more primitive accommodations will be embraced.
As someone who’s been camping for 50+ years, I can say that this was an awesome video. Miranda (and crew), you really did a phenomenal job. Lots of great info and perspectives. Thank you

I’ve absolutely camped in my own backyard, especially when testing a new shelter system. It’s great when the weather is perfect outside but you can’t get away to a park/trail/campsite.
Nothing beats camping with friends. No matter what happened - the good, the bad, and the ugly, it always with be remembered as fun and love. I love camping with my friends even through lightning thunderstorm ⛈
@@rei I’m in the east coast so we go a lot to Catskills Mountains or to Sandy Hook Beach camp grounds. Both were amazing trips but we want to go to the San Juan Islands or that little island that Miranda paddle to. I must admit, we love to try the west coast
I really like this channel. I am interested in adding the gazebo for my kitchen area. The girls had fun and were able to adjust to unforseen situations. They made the best of it and the outcome was beautiful. This is inspiring me to take my family on a first time camping trip.
Watching all of these friends just hanging out and having a great time + Mirandas contagious enthusiasm is incredibly entertaining to watch, would definitely watch more, like CIty Friends Review Camping equipment or something like that or like a series with Miranda and her friends, kinda like a TryGirls of camping. 🖤

I took my family on their first car camping trip this summer and was totally the Miranda of the group. Making sure I addressed everyone’s concerns and that they were comfortable and having fun. They also all said they would do it again! Success!

Yeah when she mentioned her friends hair standing up that is a big warning sign that a lightning strike is imminent, and that's why she said to get into the cabin.
I spend most of my nights outdoors on a tyvek sheet eating ramen out of a freezer bag, and being reminded that you can be really dang comfortable outside is nice

My husband and i camped in Brevard NC at Camp Davidson during a tropical storm a few weeks back... we had to brave the torrential rain and winds, but it was honestly the best camping trip we ever had!!
The first time my friend took me camping here in CO, we had mostly backpacking gear even though we had a car. It was not comfortable! Also ate dehydrated food. Luckily, through the years, I found my own way and love camping! The swing chair and little tables were nice touches!
That definitely doesn't sound ideal for a first-time camper. I've been hiking and camping most of my life and enjoy being a minimalist, even when car camping. I plan on bringing a friend camping for her first time next month and found that I have to step outside of my comfort zone for her comfort (even if it means bringing an air mattress). I think that a lot of experienced outdoors-people lack perspective Ann's forget what it was like when they were still green.

Watching all of these friends just hanging out and having a great time + Mirandas contagious enthusiasm is incredibly entertaining to watch, would definitely watch more, like CIty Friends Review Camping equipment or something like that or like a series with Miranda and her friends, kinda like a TryGirls of camping. 🖤

I took my family on their first car camping trip this summer and was totally the Miranda of the group. Making sure I addressed everyone’s concerns and that they were comfortable and having fun. They also all said they would do it again! Success!

Yeah when she mentioned her friends hair standing up that is a big warning sign that a lightning strike is imminent, and that's why she said to get into the cabin.
I spend most of my nights outdoors on a tyvek sheet eating ramen out of a freezer bag, and being reminded that you can be really dang comfortable outside is nice

My husband and i camped in Brevard NC at Camp Davidson during a tropical storm a few weeks back... we had to brave the torrential rain and winds, but it was honestly the best camping trip we ever had!!

The first time my friend took me camping here in CO, we had mostly backpacking gear even though we had a car. It was not comfortable! Also ate dehydrated food. Luckily, through the years, I found my own way and love camping! The swing chair and little tables were nice touches!
It's definitely a learning process! We wish you many more great adventures out there.
That definitely doesn't sound ideal for a first-time camper. I've been hiking and camping most of my life and enjoy being a minimalist, even when car camping. I plan on bringing a friend camping for her first time next month and found that I have to step outside of my comfort zone for her comfort (even if it means bringing an air mattress). I think that a lot of experienced outdoors-people lack perspective Ann's forget what it was like when they were still green.
