It just does something special I can’t explain.
100% agree! Even next to my Moog Matriarch the 37 just really has it's own special place. The workflow in particular is great.

Your video starts with your Sub37 and your Prologue in the same position as how I have both of mine. The Sub37 was the first analogue synth that I bought when I started to rebuild my studio with analogue gear. I chose it over the Sub Phatty. I think it was the best choice.
That's awesome to hear! Yea I decided to keep the 37 over the Phatty in the end, but it was a tough choice.
I think you made the right decision. Increased features and less hidden parameters versus marginally better if more limited sound palette.

An excellent comparison. Someday I should do a video comparing my Jupiter 6 against my MKS 80. Very similar on some sounds, but very different on others.

Thanks for the side by side demo. I have a sub phatty but I have been looking at the sub37 since release. I can't afford to have both so my sub has to go unfortunately.
That was exactly why I made this video! You won't regret the 37. The Beat Frequency on the front panel alone makes the 37 a winner.
Didn't have the cash for the 37, but I have a Sub Phatty coming in the mail next week and I'm super excited!

I Read in the Moog Forums that using a TRS cable instead of a TS cable on the 37 can reduce the "hiss" largely...

I think on the Sub 25 they made both the sub oscillator and the multi drive more like the 37 because mine gets noticeably louder and more gritty when I engage the multi drive than what the Sub Phatty is doing here. Not that it sounds bad mind you! Still sounds great. But when you demonstrated the 37’s sub oscillator and multi drive, I thought that sounded just like my 25. So maybe that’s one of the things they changed. Thanks for the demonstration! Learning a lot!

@@MilesAwayOfficial Absolutely! And yeah it really is, I totally love the one on the 25, it adds so much depth and makes it so creamy. I really wanted the Sub 37, who doesn’t LoL. It’s gotta be one of the best keyboards in existence. But.. Its not perfect as nothing is. For me it’s too big (have to travel a lot for gigs and practice), it’s too expensive, and honestly the other reason I didn’t get it is because I was afraid I was going to just rely too much on the 256 presets instead of actually learning how to make my own sounds. I read they upgraded a few things on the 25, so that’s the one I went with and it definitely did not disappoint. Definitely recommend it for anyone who can’t afford a 37 but still wants the same kind of sound :) Thanks again man!

Im planning buying a Subsequent 37 (new or used) or a Sub 37 (used). In this video you use a Sub 37. Have you tried the Subsequent? Are there any big differences between them to make you decide one over the other?
I've never owned the Subsequent sorry! But I went with the original sub 37 as it seems a bit more growly/distorted/less clean to my ears from demos.

I do a full sub Phatty walk through! If you want global settings though manual is best bet
Hmmm I kinda like the grit of the Sub Phatty dare I say. Maybe I’m biased, I own the Sub Phatty. I’ve kinda always wanted a Subsequent 37 so wonder how it compares to this Sub 37...
I agree! Sub Phatty sounds SLIGHTLY better, but I still sold it because i love the features of the Sub :)

I think you can plug the headphone out of the phatty to its own input to get that feedback distortion like the 37, at least what I've read on it

Yeah, true. Virtual synths just can’t do that filter sweep.
Do you feel the subsequent 37 would bring it closer to the sub phatty sound wise ? Or it's still a bit different. Big props though on noticing the difference. Everyone always just tells me they are the same engine when in fact Ive always known I could hear a difference with the sub phatty.
Just saw this! Thanks for the comment. To be honest I still think the Phatty would sound different, the Subsequent just has more headroom. But I would love to try if I could get my hands on both!

My pleasure! My advice: save a couple hundred more and get a used Sub 37. It's just so worth it with how discounted they can get on CL / Ebay

Yes absolutely! It's the best mid priced synth in terms of logical workflow. Phatty is great for beginners too
does anyone know if the sub sequent 25 sounds the same as the 37?
I've only played the 25 briefly, but from my knowledge it's much more similar to the Sub Phatty!

Yo! Just saw this Danny. I’d say it depends if you care about modulation. The Phatty line sounds great but lack the modulation of the 37, which is why I sold my Phatty

Sub 37 imho! It's one of the greatest laid out synths ever made, the sound can be beautiful or evil and distorted, and it's the best modern monosynth to this day.
Little phatty only wins in terms of classic Moog sound. Much more limited.
I thought the Sub37 only had pink noise … no white? I would have assumed the Sub Phatty would be the same … ?
Edit: yes, I was correct - they both only generate pink noise - not white.

the moog sub 37 wins the moog sub phatty thats obvious because is the upgrade of the moog sub 25 and the 25 is the upgrade of the moog sub phatty but you CANT say tthe sub phatty is a bad synth

The little fatty sounds nice but is far too limited in my opinion. if you really want that classic mode sound and don't like the modern sound of the 37, get a grandmother
