Inexpensive, easy to make and safe for occasional blade contact. Works for me. Thanks Skyler.

That’s a nice pattern Skyler! I just downloaded it. What a beneficial, simple tool and your video was concise and informative.
I was using my Dewalt hard plastic push stick during the Christmas rush and touched the blade with it. The stick blew back and became a projectile. That created a heck of bruise on my chest…and I was wearing a jacket! I’m thankful I didn’t take that blow to the head!

Oh, wow! I haven’t exploded one yet but was really close a few times and was very scary. Glad you didn’t get hurt worse

@@woodworkingwithSkyler it happened so fast, I still don’t know quite what happened. I do know I was working crazy hours from the day after Thanksgiving to the second week of December. I had to create and ship 164 cutting boards. I’m sure I created my own disaster by pushing a little too hard.

If you Cut a V notch in the front of your push stick like the thin flimsy ones that come with your table saw, it gives you another option for pushing small pieces through.

I forgot the name of the feature when I commented, it's called a birds mouth, the V notch that comes with the cheap flimsy plastic push stick that come with the table saws. If you cut one in the front of your homemade push stick it allows flexibly and another options for cutting. I will be using the sandpaper on the bottom tip from you from now on, thanks! Don't know how I didn't catch it earlier

You are very welcome. Just make sure you write on it w a marker in my case 1/8 in so I know to always use that one for my splines. Makes it easy to set up the fence too for thin rip. Just set my push stick on the blade so the blade is in the slot, bring dance in contact with push stick, lock in place.

@@woodworkingwithSkyler Yeah another great idea. -Might make one with thin kerf blade also to keep things snug on setup in that case..

I never liked the plastic ones, I thought it was just me and I never complained about them. You are the first person I have seen speak up about them.
Beautiful and charming, I will watch your videos.
I actually got in trouble for cutting into a plastic push stick at work.

Those are a lot like what I use. I paint mine Bright orange so they stand out and are easy to find. I also make my own zero inserts and paint them red. I find using tools I make myself very pleasing. I even built my own 2x 72 grinder and My word I use it daily for something. I built it to make knives but every wood and metal shop needs a 2x72. I built it for almost nothing from a old treadmill. I also made my own scroll saw. Those two builds are the only videos I have posted. My belt grinder has evolved a bit. But I promise it is that tool you never new you needed and cant live without. So is a 12 in disk sander.
I am very excited to watch your channel grow. You give great advice.

Nice work. I use similar push sticks, but I use the rubber non-skid stuff you use on RV shelves. I'm not sure how much sandpaper you should run your blade through. Great design, and much safer than plastic. I often use cheap 1 x 4 spruce, after all they are sacrificial. Nice build, thumbs up!

So, if you have 7 different sizes of thin-strip material you use, you have to make 7 separate push sticks? Not my idea of an efficient system, considering re-use later requires you align blade perfectly with the kerf slot. The sandpaper is a GREAT idea that I will try.
