Old people get confused. A nice old lady left a long message on my phone which was intended for her doctor. She was complaining about a bad reaction she's having with her medication. So I promptly called her to let her know the message didn't get to her doctor, and to find out the right number. But she kept asking me "how did you get MY number?" I kept saying "you called me....". Then it dawned on me she must've dialed from a land line, she doesn't know how a mobile phone works and she's scared that some stranger has her number. It took me a while to convince her that I'm not a scammer, I'm just trying to do the right thing. When I said "you're very welcome, and hope you feel better", she said "you are very kind, young man...". Poor old soul!

I can’t imagine how the lady didn’t understand what a caller I.D. or a message was unless they had trouble with their cognitive skills.

My friend is a programmer. He was mugged. He was taken to an ATM and made to withdraw $500 at gunpoint. My friend showed me the picture of the suspect, drawn in pencil. When the suspect was caught, the picture was incredibly accurate. So I said "wow that police sketch artist is really good"...
My friend said "No I drew this. I used to be a portrait painter.." Turns out he became a programmer, after his daughter was born. It is a steady job, and the pay is great.
His drawing was a key piece of evidence, and the guy went away for a long time. Apparently if you force someone to drive somewhere against their will, they can add a kidnapping charge on top of the armed robbery charge. Man, that was impressive work by my friend.
The prosecution was very thankful, just like Det. Logan here.

I hadn’t had a chance to empty it of the super important stuff, so my whole life was in there. I was devastated, but when we came across a pair of cops, I asked is there was a lost and found along the boardwalk. They called the station, and it turns out someone turned it on, WITH all my money still inside. Could be as many shows do use the people who live in the area they are filming since it would make it more believable. Like having real firefighters in some of the Firefighting based shows that are out there right now. Chicago fire is one as Tony Ferria of Squad 3 is in fact a real Chicago firefighter going under his real name that was brought on I think so that he could just drive the Engine but became a fan favorite. Also most of the of the firefighters you see driving any type of truck, engine or Ladder are the real deal due to some sort of clause.

I kept thinking she reminds me of someone but I wasn’t thinking E Rolle, but there were a few few facial mannerisms she had that mimicked Esther Rolle. Now it makes sense.
Great bit of TV trivia!! Thanks!

Edit (1 year later): How rude of me. Her name is Roseanna (Rolle) Carter. She has appeared in several episodes of L&O. I think has another cute interaction where they question her as a witness. Her husband and she banter/bicker about who remembers correctly what they saw.😍🥰
I also remember Ms. Rosanna from the movie She-Devil. She is the judge Roseanne/Ruth has one of her Vesta Girls to replace from the original judge that would've given her husband Bob a slap on the wrist. Mrs. Carter also starred in an episode of Good Times.
She lived to be 98 years old.
The third sister, Estelle (Role) Evans, starred as Calpurnia in To Kill a mockingbird, plus episodes of Good Times and the Jeffersons.
They were three out of EIGHTEEN SIBLINGS! Their family should be proud.

@@karazor-el6085 I know. But what I meant was rather the whole concept of using payphones being so characteristic of those particular times (which were already ending). The kidnapper wouldn't be caught for that reason in the 21st century, would he? :)
My childhood and teens were spent in the pre-digital era too, and I remember all the drama that could be caused by the fact of being out and unable to phone because "I didn't have small change for the payphone" :)

I think he used a payphone as it seemed to be a trace-less way to make a phonecall. I don't think he had the technical expertise to get a "burner phone" in that time period.
