  • I hate it when my boot or my wife's boot burns when it hits the exhaust because its a bear sometimes to clean. Well how about rain-pants burning on when you're 8 hrs from home and it has plenty of time to bake on?? Check out today's video for a simple, cheap and easy way to clean it off. I apologize for the crackle in audio. I tried to get rid of it but alas no such luck. Thank you for watching and I hope to see you on the road some day soon!!!
Thank you for watching and please stick around and check out some of my other videos. I release a Safety Tip Tuesday video every week along with Product Review Thursday and some wrenching over the weekends. If there is anything you would like to see feel free to shoot me a message and I will see what I can do. Thank you all for your support!! I wanna thank you very much. It works and after 54 years of riding and fixing my own bikes I had no idea how to remove plastic twice as thick as the one you showed without damaging the header. One think I don’t recommend the 0000 steelwool as it still scratches at least the Vance and Hines. (I tested a small area 1st;). I just repeated the easy-off technique 3 times till all plastic was removed. Thanks again. 👏

I recently put my rain cover on my Bonneville too soon after I stopped the engine. Some of the rain cover melted on to my chrome pipes right at the header. I started the stain removal task with Bar Keepers Friend and 0000 steel wool. The burnt cover was coming off the pipes slowly but surely, however with considerable effort and time. I followed your method and the results were pretty damned good with much less time and effort. Covering other engine parts with something to avoid overspray is important. I used strips of cardboard. Oven cleaner contains sodium hydroxide (lye) and some other unpleasant chemicals which are flammable. Too bad I can't share before & after photos.
Thank you so much, my friend 😎

Worked like a charm! I was dumb enough to put the dust cover on too soon yesterday and noticed a similar scar today. The Easy-Off and some scraping and polish now the pipes look like new. I used the pre 82 penny (per MatthewMCRepair) in addition to scrape the baked-on nylon off.

WD-40 worked for me to remove melted vinyl cover on hot pipes. Let it cool completely(next day) spray on WD-40 and gently remove the residue with razon blade and wipe away as you go. repeat as many times necessary.
    worked great for me.

Dollar store brand works great to. The other thing is if you don't clean it soon it will be much harder to clean and may not look right when done. Hey the other thing is that cleaner is not good to breath. It will remove paint, powder coat and can etch aluminum. So be careful

Use a nickle, don't have to heat up bike, no chemicals to breathe and does not scratch chrome. I have a 2015 CVO Street Glide that tape burnt a spot about the size of yours, I rode for about 2000 miles after it was discovered and never got around to remove, i was looking for a replacement part, or having the piece rechromed cause I didn't think the spot would come off, I was told to use a nickle so i tried it and after about 5 minutes it was gone, no scratches to the chrome, no fumes from chemicals and used water on a rag to clean off pipe and dry.

@@YogisCycleService I agree. Spray EO the night before then just wipe it off in the morning. For any really thick stuff, use a plastic credit card to scrap it off - faster and easier than a piece of wood. I also use Windex on chrome = NEVER steel wool. I saw some chrome under a microscope after using steel wool regularly = not good. Looked good to the naked eye though.
