- To celebrate Days of our Lives 55th anniversary this month, Michael Fairman talks with iconic former series star, Peter Reckell (Ex-Bo Brady) direct from his home New Zealand.
Reckell shares many heartfelt moments from the four decades he appeared on the long-running NBC soap opera including: being part of supercouple, Bo and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), how it was to film his final scenes when he made the decision to return to show to wrap-up Bo's story, which ultimately led to Bo being killed-off, his love for two of DAYS most beloved cast members: the late Frances Reid (Alice) and Peggy McCay (Caroline), if he would ever return to the show if Bo was somehow alive, and so much more.
Peter and his wife, singer/songwriter/ producer, Kelly Moneymaker are also a part of a brand new Christmas Album out now called JOY, in which Peter performs "Under the Mistletoe" written by Kelly.

I was home sick from school the first episode of "DAYS OF OUR LIVES".
I have watched it ever since! Life would not be
the same without it. Please renew it! The only story line I hated was the demonic Marlena.
I never cared for Bo
Bo and Hope were the best. I remember one of my favorite storylines from back in the day. Hope was at the wedding chapel being forced to marry Larry Welch. Bo swoops in on his motorcycle. She jumps on the back. He rescues her and in the background they are playing "I Need A Hero". Those were the days.
I truly believe for hopes final scenes they should have him come in on his bike and whisk her away.
The church scenes with Bo and Hope are my favorite also. I remember rushing home from school to watch it and talk about it with my girlfriend's lol. We even had a couple of guys in highschool that dressed like Bo with the leather jacket and hair. Great memories.

I remember that episode so we'll. I kept hoping my son's Dad would crash my wedding like Bo did. But it didn't happen. I married the wrong guy.....

I basically grew up with Bo and Hope. Best Supercouple EVER. I still get chills when I TH-cam Bo coming to rescue Hope from her wedding to Larry.

That scene with Bo holding Roman on the beach when he thought that Roman was dead, was such a gut wrenching emotion scene and Peter did that scene so well.

I wish that Peter and Kristian would come back and truly go into the sunset together. That's what fans would love to see. They should always stay together.
Bo and Hope will always be my favourite Days of Our Lives supercouple and always will be.
Peter is so humble and kind. I really enjoyed his interview with you Michael. Thank you for setting it up and for your questions. I loved how he spoke of his relationship with the actors from Days, especially Stephen Nichols. I just miss him on Days everyday, along with Kristian now. Bo and Hope are a forever soap couple.

Yeah for sure, I've been watching since I was a baby (born 1963). I'm kind of an expert on early Days. I love Dark Shadows too. I watched all the episodes (over 1000) in about 3 months. I'm pathetic, I don't have a life. It was pre-pandemic.
Ya idk did u go to days of days 2020 website and did u c the Christmas video that they did the first clip was from 1965 and it looks so good and if they have every episode and if they look like that one did idk y they wont put them on peacock
OMG, I started watching in the early 80's and am still watching,but am ready to give up,the stories are bla and repetitive and to many of the great oldies are leaving or are gone.Really miss Bo and Hope and Tony and Anna and am not caring for the new Jennifer at all.And this story with Steve and Kayla after all they've been through in the last year is very stupid.
@@jamesstrum1849 It was soo much better in the 80's and 90's and 10's. You could really get invested in storylines and characters. Now some one gets kidnapped and is back home in 3 episodes, and characters are acting totally out of character... Kristen is willing to give up raising her child (that she has been trying to have since 1996) because she wants to be a good friend to Lani? That's ridiculous. I'll never give up on Days but I'd really like some better writing!
Bo and Hope were Beautiful together
Started watching Days in early 60s. Still do. But now so many of the original actors are retiring it is sad.

All the Bradys, Hope, Marlana, Eugene, Calliope, Stefano, Victor, Caroline, Alice, Tom...so many great characters back in the day. ICONIC. I wish they would replay the 80's Days... I love that he mentioned Wayne and loved working with him because that was one of my favourite r/ships on screen ever.
Why not bring some or most back? I would love to have Calliope Jones, Liz Chandler, Melissa Andersen-Horton, Pete, André DiMera, Eugene Bradford, but the actor said no to soaps, Hattie Adam’s, and Carrie Brady.
speaking of Bo's death Stephen and Marybeth did such a good job with their emotional crying scenes when Bo died. They were Oscar winning performances for sure.
You mean Emmy winning performances? Oscars are for film only. And yes Mary Beth Evans won the Best Actress in a Drama Series daytime Emmy for that very episode in 2016

I thought that was so sad, then when hope did to it was so sad. I want him to come back and take hope away even on there boat.

@@TeehWells Yeah, they barely mention her in this. I knew she was angry at Peter for quitting, but did they never get along? The few clips I’ve seen of them at conventions lack any sort of warmth, unlike most of the other “couples” on the show. They talk over one another and contradict one another a lot (actually he seemed rather condescending toward her). Is that the deal? Did they just not like each other?
@@Historian212 In the beginning they really couldn't stand each other. Kristian admits she was really immature and would often not memorize her lines. Other actors reported they had large screaming fights. I think it got better over time, but I honestly came down to Peter tolerating her and often appeasing her. I don't think they ever became friends. In 2015, she was throwing him shade on Twitter. She's not a very nice person.
@@TeehWells I read that they did not get on that well in the beginning mostly because Peter felt Kristen had no experience as an actor & it showed. However, she got better & their relationship did get better as well. I found many of their scenes, especially as they got older showed a lot of closeness. The little things like her slapping his rear or when he would come up on her & pinch her rear like a long time couple would. I've seen lots of backstage scenes where they are messing around & having fun with each other. I don't think they disliked each other at all. I know Kristen had commented about Hope not really needing Bo to go in & that made sense. Peter left the show for good & Kristen wanted to have Hope stand on her own & find her way on her own. She knew Peter wasn't going to come back this time so she had to have been getting pretty tired of the constant "Hope can't go on without Bo" attitude. He just said here how proud of he was of Kristen & himself for the great job they did together. He also mentions how he was glad that he got to comeback and end Bo properly. He said the exact thing Kristen did. How he it didn't feel right for them to just have him go off & mentioned from time to time. Kristen said she didn't feel good about them saying she was off doing whatever for 6 months. I just wish the producers would have given Kristen a proper send off. She had invested just as much to DOOL's as Peter had.

Peter Reckell is an amazing actor! Loved the character Bo so much. Days will never be complete without him.

I started watching Days because of Bope 1983 i believe I in SC for the summer I'll never forget
Bo died of Glioblastoma which is what took my brother, that was a very hard show to watch. Then 2 hours after that show was over my father in law passed away. Not a good day. But I loved Bo and Hope. I grew up with them. Thanks for the interview, it was great seeing Peter again.
He looks so different without the beard and still looks great. He's still always going to be Bo Brady

When I was in high school, my older sister was married. She would come to visit on the weekends, and her and my mom would talk about Bo and Hope. I thought they were friends? Now that I’m older I’m watching DOOL, and know who Bo and Hope as a couple on that show. I recognize him as Bo because when I was home from school, my mom would watch the show. My mom has passed away, and you brought back good memories. Also peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, while I watched with my mom. Thank you. ❤️

1 WEEK! I bet fanfic soap opera writers in 1 week , we could concluded Bo and Hope story the RIGHT way . We just need the character Bo, Hope and their kids Shawn, Ciara and Chelsea. Soap fans deserve to see Bo and Hope go into soap opera character retirement together not apart
My thoughts exactly!!! You know it doesn't take the writers long to come up with scripts...cause some of the stories were crap!!! One week of Bo coming back from wherever he's been held all these years..to find Hope gone, his daughter "dead"....of course he'll set out to find them. He'll find them in New Orleans back at the mansion were Bo & Hope made live for the first time. No saves the day...he & Hope will conclude that the happiest they ever were was when they were sailing around the world...so that's how they'll leave....together, sailing around the world.
I totally agree, Bo dying should of Never Happened. Hope's send off was horrible. It didnt do her justice for all the years she put into DOOL. She deserved so much more, Bo & Hope are a big part of DOOL history. No man could pair with Hope like her Brady.❤
@@deniseliberato1772 It's no reflection on any actor they tried to pair KA with on the show....there was just no chemistry that could rival Peter Reckell & Kristian Alphonso. They didn't just portray Bo & Hope...they were Bo & Hope. It's clear neither actor wants to come back for a permanent Bo & Hope storyline but I think PR & KA & all their fans would agree that DOOLs owes Bo & Hope a better, satisfying and deliriously happy ending.

Yes, Bo and Hope were the greatest loving couple along,with Steve and Kayla and od course John and Marlena. I love Days of our Lives and now Hope left l hope she comes back and it would be awesome if Bo would too!. Everybody comes back from the dead with Rolf there. Love this Soap so much.❤❤❤❤💙💙💙💙

I have watched Days from the beginning when I was in high school! Hope and Bo were the big draw for me. Wish we could get them back for us old timers that have been faithfully watching every day since.

I absolutely Adore Bo Brady!!!... I have been watching days since i was born, It was my moms soap, So she always had me in the living room with her, she said she would just prop me up in front of the t.v. and we would watch Dool... Lol.... Its been almost 50 years since i have been watching and Bo and Hope are my Favorite!!.. I even remember when they first met!!... There will never be a Bo and Hope ever again!!.. I so wish they would come back!!!...
"everybody dies on Days" but they often come back. Bo's death scene was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

We missed Peter so much on Days! Have been a fan since 1967! So sad that he’s no longer living in the States. Peter seemed very happy in New Zealand, his new home. We’re happy for him and wish him the very best in the years ahead!

Bo and Hope were my all time favorite couple and I haven't felt there was or is a couple that compares. I've watched the show since 1973 at the age of 11. I watched it with my grandmother for many years. Then with my sisters, eventually I watched it with my daughter. Here this past Thanksgiving I watched it with my granddaughter who is 16. Life evolves just like DOOL.
I wish peacock would show all the old days of our lives. I would love that. We should all write the net works and maybe they will show them. If anyone knows where we can get old vcr tapes or anything with all the old videos
I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Peter Reckell, instead of a rock star he was one my wall. He was so gracious, and I’m thankful he fought for the fans to have a closure. And I cried for days, I no longer watch the show because a lot of great couples are no longer there I do love Steven Nichols and Kayla. And Kristin Alfonso deserves the same. The writers now stink!!!!!

I loved peter reckell playing bo he was great i still miss him and hope great actors i watched for 52 years now its kinda crazy and this year all my favorite people have left. There's a rumor that bow and hope are going to come back on peacock and do some sort of a five episode something I think they said it July 9th? Anyway it's going to be on peacock. I saw the interview last week mid-made 2022. They are doing something on peacock in July yes.

I can watch this video over and over again, I love Bo and how I wish Bo would go back on days with Hope but I know thats,not going to happen, so I watch this video alot. Bo has always been my favorite actor and how I wish Bo would come back, I love him I love his laugh I just love everything about him.

Wayne and Lynn live in my county. Our kids went to school and play baseball together. It was a shock the first time I saw them shopping at our small town Pioneer market. Haha.
Peter looks so young. HIs energy has always been the youthfull hero. As far as I am concerned. PR is the soap = of Bon Jovi/Van Halen.
He still seems to have his playful side and his enjoyment of the show and his friends.
