Fishing for $60k in BFL REGIONAL on the Potomac River

- If you've been following along, this was my first year fishing BFL's. I jumped in the Piedmont division and my goal was to make the regional. Got lucky and slid in even though I didn't do particularly well through the year but we made it. Bit of a long video, but I threw both days into one video for you guys.

Terry here, and yes Matt is all that and more! Matt forgot or is so dang humble he forgot to mention in the video a couple of things. One - when we got to the dock, he cut that chatter bait off his rod and handed it to me. I not only had the one he loaned me during the day, but I now had a backup in case I lost it on day three. Two - that bag of trailer baits in the video we keep tapping... he gave it to me for day three. There were about 10 baits in the bag. And yes, on day three I only weighed 4 fish, but 2 of them came on that chatter bait and a 3rd one that did not strike followed it to the boat.
I been fishing MLF since 2000 and had many boaters tell me a direction to cast, loan me a bait or give some advice on retrieve rates etc. but never, I say NEVER, has a boater handed me the rod and reel he was using to make a cast at actively feeding fish. Dare I say that will never happen again for me.
In the video I said something like "...luck of the draw..." but for sure I was the lucky one. At the end of the day, I offered him some gas money for all the driving around we did but he refused it and I had to leave it in the console of the boat, or I would have felt bad because that's what I do for every boater I fish with.

Wow Matt, what a treat to watch you put your Co-Angler on the bite. I found you through Geoffrey in the videos you guys shot when he was there. I’ve been following you ever since. I knew you were a squared away dude if Geoff came to stay and fish with you. He doesn’t do that with just anyone. I’m so lucky, I live less than a mile from The Hook Up tackle. You can’t help but become a better fisherman around a group of guys like the ones Ben Koller has assembled there at the hook up. I really enjoy it. But after a year and a half I’ve still never met Geoff. I can’t wait to tho. He is to me what Mike Tyson is to boxers lol. I’m a swimbait only guy so he’s the shit in my world. I’ve learned so much from watching him and now I learned a good way to work a chatter bait from you today. I’ve got so much respect for you and the unselfishness you showed by limiting out your Co. that’s so fricken cool and fish karma will surely reward you when you least expect it. A friend of mine was leading the FLW on Beaver lake as a Co after day 1....this was back when the Cos were fishing for 40 grand....day 2 he draws the typical pro you always hear about...selfish...dont give a sh-t about his Co...and he zeroed finishing 10th.....the reason I bring this up it truly is the luck of the draw as a Coangler. What you did for Terry I dont think ive ever seen done ....and prob never will again. Youre a good dude....that was cool as cool gets....hats off to you man

You don't see that a lot in this tournament trail and their are few guys out there willing to help the co-angler, but you went above and beyond. best of luck to you in the upcoming season!

Hands down the best I've ever seen anyone treat their co-angler. You're awesome buddy. Most nose their selves into the spot and be pissed if the co throws that direction
I don’t roll that way. Especially when I don’t stand a chance at even cashing, but my co had a shot at 60k/new boat.

Best thing I could’ve done. I would’ve needed about 18lbs to cash a check…possible…but my odds of being able to help terry get a limit and fish day 3 were astronomically higher.

With the braid I'm throwing it on a 7'3 light medium heavy KLX rod from kistler, with fluoro it's a 7'3 mh daiwa tatula elite.
