I won't be told of family road trips until my Nana drops by to feed the dogs and is surprised to see me there so asks why I'm not on the road trip with everyone else. Like - wait, there was a road trip! I thought everyone was just being unusually quiet, why wasn't I told about this?!

This happened to me when I was in high school (in the late 80's) but with my friend group. I was all ready and waiting for them to pick me up... and waiting... aaaannnd waiting. Eventually, one of them called me from a pay phone in the restaurant while they were having dessert saying she JUST realized I wasn't there and they forgot to pick me up! It took them THAT long (drive all the way to the restaurant which was 20 mins away, have an entire dinner and in the middle of DESSERT) to realize I wasn't there. I'm 49 now and clearly have healed from that. 😭😕😂
Family went to Brookfield zoo when I was 5. I was mesmerized by some beautiful birds in an exhibit and my family left without me. I didn't notice for who knows how long. A woman said "ok, let's go see the dolphins so I went while still looking at all the animals. I wasn't following my mom. It was some other family. I did notice that eventually when I looked up to tell mom I was thirsty, but it wasn't her. I spent the next who knows how long wandering around looking for my family. I saw most of the zoo in the process and got distracted many, many times. I finally found them and joined them and that made me start crying. I was hungry and thirsty and tired and scared and now I was safe. My mom was so confused. They had not noticed my absence all day and when I shared my experience with them I remember her eyes when she finally realized I was telling her the truth about my day. My father joined us for a good cry, then hot dogs and ice cream. They really didn't know I was gone. The whole time. I was a very quiet, self sufficient little kid so it was easy to forget about me I suppose. I was just lucky to see them again in that huge crowd in that huge zoo. It was 1972.

My boyfriend is a middle child and I CANNOT express how true this is. I used to not believe in middle child syndrome but if you’re being forgotten most of the time, it messes your emotions and brain. No joke. For a 6 foot tall ripped man, he is extra sensitive and very afraid to be left alone. He is super clingy because no one got him in the family, no one has his back. He is the forgotten child.

Once when I was 7 my dad brought my brothers and my brothers friend to the park and I was upstairs when this happened so he forgot me and when I went downstairs there was no one there and I just started crying #middlechild

Bruh me too!! When I was in highschool my younger brother grew like a foot taller than me, and he got super fit, and he started having better grades than me. I started to feel like I was being treated like the middle child. It kind of sucked. But it took a lot of pressure off for a few years.

I have many stories but most recently was when i traveled 7hrs to see my family for my dads bday (i’m the only kid who lives out of state from them) and when it was time for everyone to sing happy birthday i was in the garage still smoking and playing on my phone. when i finally went back inside they were already cutting the cake and saying “oh i thought u were here”. 🤨🤨
