    "For Jars" brand now sells a very affordable hand held vac sealer. My sister has used it all season long and she loves it.

    I just bought both the standard and wide mouth food saver brand lid attachments for $34 on Amazon check again, they are back out there and reasonably priced

      Thanks for the heads up. That took them a long time to restock and drop the price.

    Q: Did you put your dried goods in the freezer or oven to kill off any possible larva or other bugs before vacuum sealing them?? That's how I've done it for years. Great content and explanation.

      Thank you. Usually I freeze but I have put them in the oven as well. It usually depends on how much room I have in my freezer, lol.

    Great info! Thank you so much! We are just starting our dry storage. After freezing the beans and rice do you dry can them right out of the freezer still frozen or do you let them sit on the counter to thaw out?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome.
      If I freeze beans and rice, I vacuum seal them. No need for dry canning. After you take them out of the freezer, you need to let them come back up to room temp so the condensation will not accumulate.

    I heat my Lids in the oven and they seal just fine

    Do you like to dry can or vacuum seal better? Is there a difference between the two?

    Have you heard to freeze any beans, rice, or flour for a couple of days to kill all the buggies. I then open the bag and let it air out for several hours. I then vacuum seal and have never had any bugs.

      We both freeze and heat our dry goods. We did a video on dry canning by heating to kill bugs and bug larvae.

    Hi there, thank you for the information. I’m just wondering if these sealed jars can be stored in a room that get as cold as -30C /59F in the winter and then warms up to +15C / 86F in the summer. Will the temperature fluctuation effect the seal?

    Would oxygen absorbers be beneficial or more a Hassel? Have you had any experience with using them and having a longer or fresher shelf life?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be beneficial. I have used them in my freeze dried goods but not with vacuum sealed goods.

    sorry another question.. are you freezing rice or lentils before dry canning ?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do freeze some and heat others. 30 min at 250f if you want to heat.

    Can I dehydrated my veggies in the sun and use any jar as long as the lid has a rubber band inside and do I have to vacuum them with a jar vacuum or can I put a oxygen absorber inside without vacuum with a jar vacuum?

    Love your videos! Thank you so much! With this method do we need to sterilize the jars and lids in the oven?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank you. No need to use the oven. Just make sure they lids and jars are clean and dry.

    Does the jar need to be sterilized and if so how far in advance can I sterilize the jars

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should sterilize the jar. Just before you vacuum seal is the best time.

  • @krisgee9553

    It appears as though you went from bulk bag to vacuuming. Can you skip the freezer or oven step for sterilizing jar & food if you vacuum it? Most videos I watch don't so I'm confused now.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just didn't show the freezing/oven step because the vid was really just about how to vacuum seal. In this case, we froze ours ahead of time.

  • @scottpeterson638

    thank you. question please... are you going to screw the outer half of the lid on also ?

  • @yvonnevdmerwe690
    @yvonnevdmerwe690 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I use any bottle like peanut butter bottles etc as long as the lid have a rubber inside the lid for vacuum and if I don’t have a jar sealer can I put a oxygen absorber in the bottle for dry goods?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the vacuum sealer attachment is made for mason style jars. Nothing else will fit. If you do this, you do not need an oxygen absorber.

    Do I need to freeze or cook foods before I vacuum seal them? If so, for how long do you do that for? Or is the vacuum sealing enough?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can. Freezing or heating is just to kill any potential bugs or bug eggs. Freezing works a bit better for this. Freeze for 3 to 7 days. Vacuum sealing is just for preservation.

    WAIT... did you bake the jars first before vacuum sealing? Did you bake the rice before putting in the jars???

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither. I froze this batch of rice. I sterilized my jars in the microwave.

      @@cindygrace8443 You can wet down a clean jar and then put it in the microwave for 1 min.

    Would you recommend vacuum seal over dry (oven) canning?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but only because it is easier and there are some complications with dry canning like high moisture in some things like beans. You will still have to either freeze or heat your product beforehand to kill off any bugs, larvae, or eggs.
