Played this at my brother's funeral. We had been Python fans since it was young and anarchic. The song came on and it immediately changed the mood from sombre to stupidly brilliant. Laughing and crying is good for the soul I believe. Thanks Eric. Priceless.
My first encounter was when I was nine years old, I'm fourteen now. I've seen the movies mutiple times, and I've watched Flying Circus four times. I'm telling my kids about this.
Those books would then be immediately banned in Florida and Texas. What sad commentary on our country. How did people who deserve nothing but ridicule for their prudish, ignorance mongering, come to be in charge of ......... anything? Monty Python yesterday, Monty Python today, Monty Python tomorrow and Monty Python forever.
Eric helped pull so many people out of depression with that song. Its a go to any time when things are getting rough and you need to remember how to sing in the rain.
I love how it's such a well known and famous song these days that the audience were joining in singing and whistling it. I wish I was in that audience to watch him.
+VastVidsGaming It all depends on where you want to go, personally, I'd go with what Mr Idle is singing about, his idea of the after-life sounds like great fun, hope to see you there, brother ! peace, love and mung beans.
Fifteen years ago Eric Idle performed a musical he had written’Not the Messiah, with full orchestra, choir and four soloists in Toronto. There were two performances only, and the opening night was filled with politicians and t.v. Personalities. Of course it finished on this song and we were all on our feet clapping and singing along. That song is pure magic.
I love Monty Python and consider Eric Idle to be one of the funniest British actors ever to have lived. He also has a very recognizable high pitched voice.
I think this is the song I want played at my funeral and hopefully one of my true friends is dressed as the Grim Reaper. And lots of free booze for anyone in attendance.
This is what I want played when I'm on my way out. I'll put it in the will. It will make my sons smile and the rest of the family will say, "I knew she was always crazy "
I think if I just had BBC, I wouldn't need any other television programs. History channel doesn't show History, and the Discovery Channel is never discovering. BBC has Doctor Who, Top Gear, Graham Norton, Monty Python. The works.
this is just the best thing ive seen in ages. when i was watching on the graham norton show the moment he said the first line i just knew this was gonna happen. absolutly brilliant.
I don't care what any movie critics say about Eric idle or his movies! Eric Idle is funny and he can act and he can sing even 35 years after Life Of Brian and his voice is still just as good as it was when he was young! He truly deserves an Oscar for the funniest and most entertaining British actor ever.
Just finished reading his book.. When you hear this song on the radio he will have fallen off his cross.. He never sold the rights to advertisers.. I loved his book and his life..
My childhood was spent watching python and as an American child that didn’t make me any friends. 😂 but I loved it. Still do at 43. Thank you to all of the cast!
This is my favorite song. It's happy, it's about life in general and in a very unique and awesome way, it's a guide on how to deal with truly tough situations. By the way it just makes me happy =)
I remember when I was a kid watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus with family that was visiting from the United States. I was laughing so much I had tears streaming down my face. Our visitors, however, just didn’t get it and told me it was just stupid. That was the first time I realized that some people really don’t enjoy a sense of humour which is terribly sad. Eric Idle was always my favourite.
lol i like it when Eric tries to keep his smile back when graham asks him the question :D this song is genius! no matter what it always leaves a smile on my face whenever i feel down. i just cant help it
The Pythons will NEVER be forgotten.
Eric is a legend.
+Whoami691 This song and the pythons will be immortal
Yes 😆
What do mean? Eric is not dead, he is still alive.
He's not dead, you silly git! ( i meant that in the nicest way possible)
@@benschneider4617 Odds are that he will be.

Beautiful that mate.
that's good, man! i want this for my funeral too
You are giving me ideas. Not sure my wife will approve though...
i agree,women and humor..rarely is a good mixture
:)
when that man stood up my eyes got a little watery with happiness.
mine too.....the feels man...the feels...
its not the same when the audience aren't all hanging on crosses
LOL! weird but true!
Word.
True, and with the whole chorus on crosses. It's CROSS country singing!
OMG @@mr.shepherdspie7958! Perfect joke!
I know it's even on the bbc
That song was like the Spanish Inquisition, they didn't expect it.
+Connor Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition
The Spanish Inquisition
Expected by nobody since 1970.
Dora Horvat Our chief weapon is surprise
And Fear
Bengineer Guy Our TWO weapons are surprise, fear and a ruthless efficiency!
"Nothing is funnier than when you don't get the laugh"...lolll This guy is so brilliant! Timeless classic!
Soon as he said "they can really make you mad" that audience all thought "oh YES!!!"
You can see in Graham's expression a very subtle grin when he asked Eric about coping with getting no laughs. He knows what's coming and he likes it
Really hope these men will someday make it into our kids' history books.
Everyone of them were brilliant in, their own ways.!!!
My kids always were fed a healthy Monty Python diet at home
My first encounter was when I was nine years old, I'm fourteen now. I've seen the movies mutiple times, and I've watched Flying Circus four times. I'm telling my kids about this.
@@RicardoBanffy did that include spam and crunchy frog?

As soon as he said those first words.. ❤
40 years, and yet that's still not enough to kill Eric Idle's awesomeness. :3
This makes me proud to be British
Absolutely. And I am not even British.
Brexit doesn't
Cant blame you.
I’m not British, more’s the pity, but it makes me happy to be human. Cheers!
As you should. Regards from Portugal.
That transition...
I LOVE how he didn't even need to be asked, he did it himself because he enjoys it. The Pythons are national treasures
XMizzTuraX well, it was in the script, obviously. People think entertainment is real. No, it's hard work.
It takes a lot of work and preparation to make something look this spontaneous
You could tell this was going to happen with Graham's set-up question.
Those musicians didn't just do that without preparation.
Eric helped pull so many people out of depression with that song. Its a go to any time when things are getting rough and you need to remember how to sing in the rain.
I'm an American and have always loved Monty Python. Eric is a genius and a hell of an entertainer. Outstanding performance.....bravo....
Eric Idle... teaching us to _'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'_ since 1979... 😇😇😇😇😇
This song never fails to put me in a better mood.
Eric is extremely funny. Of all the Pythons his sense of humor is closest to mine.
I love how it's such a well known and famous song these days that the audience were joining in singing and whistling it. I wish I was in that audience to watch him.
I love it when he retains his British accent while singing to make it more funnier
0:47 you can SEE where the realization that he could pull off the bit hit him
I'm undecided between this and highway to hell for my funeral song xD
not the Jaws theme?
I would want to play always look on the bright side of life at my funeral

i want mine to be hail to the king by avenged sevenfold
This video came out the day after i was born what a good present!
This video always cheers me up. I love how he encourages everyone to sing along, even reminding them to change key toward the end.
If this song isn’t played at my funeral I’m not going
🤣
Same
Ahh yes, an absurdity terrible enough to wake the deax
This is one of the greatest comments ever written
That was a great comment, I laughed till I stopped.

oh, man. I wish I had been in that audience.
I love how the audience just joined right in.
Eric Idle loves this song so much.
And I can fully understand him.
Damn, this is already at least 7 years old.
0:47 look at that smile. He knows what he's about to do and he's going to enjoy it.
That was a goddamn perfect transition. Absolute genius indeed.
I read that the crew of HMS Coventry sang this song to keep their spirits up while waiting to be rescued during the Falklands War.
For that song alone Eric Idle deserves to be immortalised ... Wonderful :-)
Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Monty Python will always be hilarious and never failing to illicit a chuckle from this olde gal! 😅😅😂Love them!
I love Monty Python and consider Eric Idle to be one of the funniest British actors ever to have lived. He also has a very recognizable high pitched voice.

Apparently this is indeed played at a lot of funerals / cremations!
Wylye_guy Second most popular funeral song in the UK.
Wylye_guy In the Falklands War, the crew of HMS _Coventry_ sang this song as she was sinking after an Argentine jet got a hit on her.
+ReddwarfIV Did they live?
scratcher s Most of them. IIRC, _Coventry_ was abandoned well before it sank. The missile itself would have killed a few people though.
he's still got it
Excellent, excellent, excellent, Eric Idle is absolutely brilliant.
Eric Idle, like all the Pythons was fabulous! Thanks for your fantastic contributions to British comedy xxx
What a legend! He makes life a little better, can't think of a higher praise than that
This is THE most British song out there I play this every time something goes wrong and it always make me feel more positive 😂🇬🇧
It's one of my favorites
1:50 classic Eric Idle. We have to protect him at all costs! ❤
This is what I want played when I'm on my way out. I'll put it in the will. It will make my sons smile and the rest of the family will say, "I knew she was always crazy "
You can be cool, but you can't be "Eric Idle breaking into a musical on a talk show" cool.
Love you, Eric. Thanks for the good moments.

brings back funny memories of movies my parents wanted us to see when we're young. and im greatful for that.
no matter what, this song will always make me smile and feel happy and optimistic even if it's for 3 minutes. forever monty phyton
One of the best 1 hit wonders ever
Part of me hopes that this song is taught everywhere in England...
I can confirm this. It's compulsory ;)
Le Docteur, Watching all Monty Python is compulsory in England :-)
And maybe the rest of the United Kingdom as well.
I need this song more than ever!
he's a keeper. You can't be sad near him.
This song has saved my sanity more than once...a week.

He was recently back on the Graham Norton show telling him about how he has survived a terrible illness. ...God Bless, Eric. xx
Yes, and years before that he wrote a play about a writer who got that illness..

Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad, but this song will always cheer me up.
British people should be proud of so many things...from Shakespeare to Monty Python ❤️
My uncle had his funeral on Tuesday and this was the song we played at his funeral 1973-2019

Back was killing me then I landed on this song which I loved! Back still killing me but least I smiled for a few moments.
What a legend. I wish he could be around forever.
With the choir of the police departament and his saddest yelling in the background music. I love it.
I never tire of watching Eric Idle sing this song.
Just finished reading his book.. When you hear this song on the radio he will have fallen off his cross.. He never sold the rights to advertisers.. I loved his book and his life..
Best boy band lead singer ever.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to be sad when you hear this song.
I don't know why but this makes me cry
the best thing is that he sings the song not as an artist who works on stage, for money, but in such an easy, relaxed manner.
My childhood was spent watching python and as an American child that didn’t make me any friends. 😂 but I loved it. Still do at 43. Thank you to all of the cast!
