My sister had this on a 45. One day when I was bored, I decided to go through and play all the "B" sides of both our 45s. "Cold Ethel" was the "B" side for this song and based on the strength of that, I went and bought the album.

Cooper usually writes comedic macabre songs, but this song really is more sad because of the physical abuse women endure in chaotic relationships, and are too afraid to seek help or to escape it. When this song was written, the feminist movement wasn't as strong as it is now.

His co-writer on this song Dick Wagner, did a great recording of this song as well.

@@jeffreylauzon7630Alice Cooper is a Christian not a feminist. Feminism has done more damage to women then helped.

"Billion Dollar Babies" a smash hit and a track off the self-named album released back in 1973 by Alice Cooper is fire. The popular British songwriter/musician Donovan contributed on this song with Alice. Drummer Neal Smith enhances this banger with his explosive drumming talent on this song. 🎤🎸🥁🥁🔊⚡🔥☮🎧

Fellow shock rocker and Alice Cooper‘s friend… Arthur Brown has a song called “ fire“, it was a very popular song.
Watch the live version and tell me if not one of the most shocking videos that you have seen. I dare you!!!

My parents had Arthur Brown on vinyl. As a youngster, I would hear "I am the God of Hell fire..." Scared the sh*t out of me the first few times.

Child abuse, battered women. Those things weren't generally discussed outside the home back then. What happened in the house, stayed in the house. Alice Cooper brought it out in the open. BTW, this album is one of the best sounding 5.1 dvd-audio discs out there for those interested in hi-resolution surround sound. Alice Cooper had another song called "You and Me" that also shower his softer side. Very nice tune.

Excellent album, one of my all time favorites. He had a lot of ballads that were hits too! This would be a great album to do for Halloween, but on side two there are three songs that really should be listened to together.

Alice Cooper is a Born-again Christian man. He was raised in a family whose father was a preacher. Like most "PKs" (preacher's kids) they feel oppressed, and so they Rebell even more than the average teenager does. With all that said, Vincent came home to "The Truth," and is nothing like the person he once portrayed on stage. Great dude. Vince is about 76 yrs. old now, and enjoys golfing and Bible studies, and Jesus.
    Me to Brother.

The Alice Cooper Band back when I was a kid in the mid 70s was the must see band. The aura around what might happen was off the charts. Saw Alice on his Nightmare tour when I was like 14. Wild spectacle, great band and just enough danger. Alice is the real deal.

Try the song, “Black Widow,”with the voice of Horror actor extraordinaire Vincent Price. (If you haven’t already) Cooper’s live shows back in the day were theatrical classics with a Halloween party vibe.

Alice Cooper has lots for you to delve into, like "Hello, Hurray", "Under My Wheels", "Be My Lover", "Unfinished sweet", "Generation Landslide", "I'm Eighteen", "School's Out", "Billion Dollar Babies", "Elected", "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "Long Way To Go" and "Poison", all of which are really cool songs. Back when this song first came out, my mother thought, because of the title, it was a dirty song, but when she listened to it, she was taken by surprise and complemented it and was impressed with Alice for making this type of song.

Had the opportunity to see Alice Cooper on three different occasions, once in the mid-70's, once in the mid-80's and then about a year and a half ago. His voice was as strong and clear as ever, and his backing band, though different, was very capable. Oh yeah, and the stage show was still as Broadway as ever, big stage with props and extras running here and there. Vincent Damon Furnier, the son and grandson of ministers is still the King of Shock Rock. "Only Women Bleed" was a bit of a departure for him, but he nailed the feelings and his words and music hit each and every point.

Back in the day, listening to this music as teenagers it's usually about the music. You're partying and the music is kicking ass. Then listening to this and others later on you start understanding the lyrics more. The 70s had great messages they were putting out there. And this is just one of them. This is a great one like Alice Cooper.

I've loved Alice since I was 11-12 yrs old. My Mom came into my room trying to tell me this song, was disgusting and to turn it off. I remember waiting to get slapped when, I laughed at her and said "Why don't you listen to the lyrics?" Well, she did and then said carry on. 😅❤❤

He has some great ballads. Check out You & Me and I Never Cry. With Only Women Bleed, he seemed more focused on physical abuse and not cheating, although he does touch on cheating.

Vincent Fernier a.k.a. Alice Cooper was heavily influenced by a couple of recording artists that were pioneers in (shock rock). 'Screamin' Jay Hawkins' the soul and R&B singer/songwriter released his hit record "I Put a Spell on You" from 1956. Of course, this song was covered by many popular artists over the decades. Jay, at many of his live shows, emerged from a coffin on stage. Another influencer of Alice was the British psychedelic soul/rock band 'The Crazy World of Arthur Brown'. Arthur Brown is noted for his flamboyant and theatrical performances on stage. 🎭Their international smash hit single "FIRE" released back in 1968 is smokin' hot from that time period. 🎩👠💫🎤🎸🎹🥁🔊🔥☮📻🎧

I think he has a restaurant now in Arizona. I saw him perform a few times in Detroit. I went to a Catholic high school in Detroit. A girl
In my class dated him then lived with him for years. Her eye makeup was heavy and black, like his. She sued him for palimony when they broke up. It was the first case of palimony and she won. She was a model.

Alice is the KING of concept albums. Usually, if you are confused by the song's message, it's because you are hearing it out of context of the whole album.
This song has a very powerful message that stands alone well, but it's really part of a larger story where she is a victim of the villain. Definitely worth hearing more, and you should check some full albums (like this one), or Along Came a Spider - which is a sequel to this album.

As someone who was actually IN an abusive relationship for a dozen years, I can empathize with the message in this song. Sometimes, being connected to someone is a trap, and a very painful one at that....
