After listening to this song for like 100 times I have finally noticed that in the intro she is saying lyrcis from a song from a popular russian cartoon Cheburashka and Gena....I love you Grimes
No one can contest the fact that this is probably one of her best, if not most impressive, releases in her entire discogrpahy so far, even with Miss Anthropocene considered (which Grimes reckons is her best work yet). Put a pair of good headphones on and you will be spoiled with layers and layers of detail led by an undeniably clever, sick beat. The 'break-it-down' sections are out-of-this-world. Inviting Janelle for the pseudo-rap portions is ingenious and cannot be more apt
Idk what to think about this track. When it started playing I thought it was “Genesis” because it had a 100% identical intro. Idk if she used the same sound clip on purpose or if that’s something she does. This tracks kind of annoying though now that it’s a bit over half way over. The sounds are not very easy on the ears and they’re random as hell. There’s no flow at all to this. She definitely has like 3 songs that are great. This isn’t one of them though. I don’t wanna ever hear it again.
That line drawing next to the title 'Venus Fly' is actually the cosmic map which was placed on the Voyager probe. If it should be discovered by any intelligence life, they presumably might be able to decipher it to find directions back to Earth. The title may therefore suggest that it's luring the aliens into a trap (Earth).
I noticed that too. Refered to as a pulsar map. Those who don't know it shows the sun relative to pulsars around us. Pulsar have unique "pulses" so if they can find those collective pulses. They can find us. Also anyone interested more about the map on the voyager they can look up the Golden Record. Is a plated record with songs like elton john and recording of languages. Floating who knows where is space as we speak.

as someone who's currently studying cinema in college i truly take such inspo from grimes shes really one of my biggest inspos when it comes to creativity
Genesis was the first video I’d seen from Grimes and it was original and had an interesting aesthetic so when I went looking for more, this was the next one I found and it really hooked me. You can argue that it’s a little artsy and self-indulgent, but it’s okay to be that when it’s done damn well. Plus the actual song has a good beat and sound. I can honestly say I haven’t seen anything so interesting done so well. There are other songs by Grimes I like better (Realiti, World Princess and especially Flesh Without Blood) but this video is her best in my opinion.
I thought I've seen n heard all the music that has to offered to the world (I'm into wide genre), especially, from Lady Gaga, Billy Eilish, Sia, and other unique artists, but after listening to few MVs from Grimes, this has totally changed my perspective of the possibilities out there. This blows my mind with Grimes' creativity, from the beats to the lyrics to its tones to the choreography to the SFX. Very refreshing and unique. I guess only the few are intrigued in this type of unique taste of music hence her popularity isn't as wide as other known artists out there. But this also makes her special and I think I love it. These "out of this world" beats would definitely helps me ease my stress from all the craziness in the world. 🙂

Don't you get the symbology? The whole video is about Alchemy ... -Voyager 2. -Atomic bomb. -Mystic rose: symbol of alchemy, illumination and secret (same meaning in beauty and the beast).Grimes makes the silence sign later. -Vanitas vanitatum table (with flowers, fruits, shells and mirrors). The most important symbol is Grimes in the mud or oil. The dual symbology of the dresses and the monarch butterflies does not make sense along with the previous symbology.
Thanks for alchemy reminder - very apt for our future Mother of Space Travel. However, were there not a random element of her own thrown in, it'd just be a cultural Mashup instead of ART. I crave a future influenced by her mind.
The word you’re looking for is symbolism... Please watch the movie Boondock Saints and you’ll find a moment in that film I felt like using to respond to your comment with lol
Nah, I think it's more about breaking feminine stereotypes. Lots of Venusian symbols are being destroyed in the video, and the lyrics "throw my pearls all across the floor" "cut my hair underneath my chin" and others show rebelling against typical feminine aesthetics.
The other symbols, along with the masonic checkerboard floor, mean something else. Those point to more esoteria / occult references. So they actually do work together. Perhaps, taken all together, it could point to the earthly feminine, that through obtaining gnosis /wisdom, gets promoted and ideated to the sacred feminine? But I'm probably incorrect. Just spewing in the void. I think it could also mean something more dark. Monarch butterflies point towards mind control. Oh well

Put a pair of good headphones on and you will be spoiled with layers and layers of detail led by an undeniably clever, sick beat. The 'break-it-down' sections are out-of-this-world. Inviting Janelle for the pseudo-rap portions is ingenious and cannot be more apt
I'm wondering if Grimes thinks MA is her best in terms of production.
i love her maximalist approach, there's so much going on but as a whole it works so well.
The fact that there is a Bubbleologist in the credits just made me like Grimes more
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that

That line drawing next to the title 'Venus Fly' is actually the cosmic map which was placed on the Voyager probe. If it should be discovered by any intelligence life, they presumably might be able to decipher it to find directions back to Earth. The title may therefore suggest that it's luring the aliens into a trap (Earth).
Woahhh
I noticed that too. Refered to as a pulsar map. Those who don't know it shows the sun relative to pulsars around us. Pulsar have unique "pulses" so if they can find those collective pulses. They can find us. Also anyone interested more about the map on the voyager they can look up the Golden Record. Is a plated record with songs like elton john and recording of languages. Floating who knows where is space as we speak.
wow underrated comment

Hey, oh why you looking at me? (Against the music)
Hey, oh why you looking at me? (Baby I can use it)
(Pitty pat, doing that, talking smack, got my back
Pitty pat, call it black, talking smack)
[Pre-Chorus: Janelle Monáe (Grimes)]
Why you looking at me now?
Why you looking at me again?
What if I pulled my teeth?
Cut my hair underneath my chin
Wrap my curls all around the world
Throw my pearls all across the floor
Feeling my beat like a sniper girl
('Cause I want it more)
[Chorus: Grimes]
Hey, what about me?
Oh, why you looking at me?
Oh, why you looking at me?
(Against the music)
Hey, what about me?
Oh, why you looking at me?
Oh, why you looking at me? (Baby I can use it)
[Verse: Janelle Monáe]
Pitty, pitty, pitty pat
Why you always doing that?
Why you always talking smack?
Yeah, Grimes got my back
Pitty, pitty, pitty pat
Why you always call it black?
Why you always talking smack?
Yeah, Grimes-
[Pre-Chorus: Janelle Monáe (Grimes)]

The intro is like being introduced to two main characters how it's slowed and badass they look I WANT THIS GAME?!😍
I listened to this song a lot soon after I was raped. Fast forward 4 years, the anger, pain and sadness I channeled whilst listening to this really loud has now translated into a beautiful strength that is completely untouchable. Honestly, when I listen to this now I just feel power and joy knowing that I’ve risen from the ashes. Thanks Grimes and JM - what a track.

I like Grimes because it looks like she’s always having fun with her music. I don’t know much about her but I was curious.
I love that they dedicated the whole equally beautiful ending to giving credit!

Damn, I just realized how much I appreciate that the song is so long. It's very rare nowadays.

That and crystal meth
Oh well
The visuals in this video are so majestic they take you into another world
