Remembering Ramsey Lewis (1935-2022). The Chicago native headed “Ramsey Lewis and his Gentle-men of Swing.” Lewis was one of the nation's most successful jazz pianists, topping the charts with "The In Crowd", "Hang On Sloopy" and "Wade in the Water". All three singles each sold over one million copies and were awarded gold discs. No more problems.
As Andre Crouch once said, "This ain't no concert--We havin' church!" Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness . . . Amen. I've loved Ramsey since I first heard 'The In Crowd', 'Wade in the Water' and 'Hang on Sloopy'.
He introduced me to jazz when I was 15 and a dancer...truly grateful for all the sounds I was able to absorb!! RIH Sir Ramsey Lewis!! Thank you for everything!!
If you can go back 55 years and have some remembrance of then, now you are enabled to appreciate where you come from BLACK IN AMERICA. IF NOT YOU WERE CHEATED OF BLACK CULTURE. I AM SURE OF THAT. ELDERS OF TODAY ARE AWARE OF OUR PAST. ASK THEM IF YOU DARE TO GET LIFE RIGHT...
I heard him play this in person along with Precious Lord and it was at the end of his concert and he brought the house down!! He took us to church for sure!
I feel bad... I was commenting beautifully,..... itb went off. icome back and see I've been wiped out before I could even finish. i'm 87 years old, I don't have time for bein g wiped out !!! PEACE! I '[m moving on...... MacKtheSax
Bit of a sweeping statement in view of the massive numbers of World Class pianists over the years, Morton, Heinz, Waller, Peterson, Teddy Wilson, Art Tatum, George Shearing, Dudley Moore, (Yes! That one). Nat King Cole..and on and on AND ON! The list wouldn't fit in this posting. However I do respect your opinion. He is certainly a very fine player but best of all time? Hmmm?
