- (Visit: www.uctv.tv/) The requiem has long been a popular form among composers, and celebrated practitioners of the genre include Mozart, Verdi, Brahms, Berlioz, and Britten. Unlike those of his fellow composers, Fauré’s Requiem contains no Sturm und Drang, no thundering crescendos or rallying cries to the deceased. Rather, it’s a gentle, contemplative work, more of a meditation on transience than an exhortation. It contains most of the form’s familiar elements, including mixed chorus and soloists (in this instance baritone Jonathan Nussman and soprano Priti Gandhi), but they are employed in service of an effect that is uniquely Fauré’s own. This piece has steadily gained in popularity and the final section, “In Paradisum,” is familiar to many from its use in several films, television programs, and commercials. Recorded on 06/10/2018. Series: "La Jolla Symphony & Chorus" [Show ID: 33858]
just amazing thank you
volume a little low
Some strange sounding noodling organ interpretations, an underweight baritone and a soprano with a vibrator like a wobbly skate board. Chorus well intentioned but uneven in pitch and balance. Not a fave perf.
a 'Noodling organ interpretation' you say; indeed. The singers' efforts are sincere, but - 'je'me excuse, mais sont 'n'pas Francais... With the greatest and sincere respect to the American older ladies (whose collective are infinity more interesting than any woman under 50) - you are not French ladies - and that's just that. And forget the lead violinist: he's about 16 and had yet to learn about understatement. And in case anyone asks if I know about music: I'm Irish....
(Edited the next morning) - The above notwithstanding, a damm fine attempt at what is widely regarded as an exceptionally difficult suite to execute. However, the organist should be taken to the woodshed and beaten about the head with a profundity of red herrings.
Like most performances, too anemic of an already anemic score. This is after all a petition to Jehovah not to torture grandma in eternal lake of fire! Atheist Verdi wrote a more muscular requiem.
