Cases like this give me hope. Might seem like an odd statement, but my cousin was killed by her husband 4 months ago today. Her name was also Brittani. She still hasn't gotten justice. He is still out there living life like nothing happened. Meanwhile our family is waiting and praying for the day he is arrested, charged and convicted. Justice doesn't always happen when we want it to, but at least it happens eventually. I hope Keiona's family can find some comfort in knowing that the monster who took her life won't be released any time soon. Jealousy is a disgusting thing.

So sorry for your loss and sending lots of love to your family. We had a case in my small town where a husband murdered his wife over 3 years ago now and he just got Justice and was finally arrested for her murder. I hope your cousin gets justice ❤❤

This just doesn't seem like justice. While she did serve time, no true accountability was ever taken. The poor little baby got zero justice. Thank you for covering this case. I long for a world where we all live in peace with each other and stop the hate and nonsense. No man/woman is worth taking a life. She should’ve got life!
Suspended sentences are important or relevant atleast because if that person, criminal, etc gets out of prison or has a suspended sentence to begin with hanging over their head.. then they can go back to prison for any reason. So having something to lord over them basically for good behavior once they leave.
The crazy thing is that I went to school with Kayla Armstrong and we was in high school band together. When I heard this situation years ago, I couldn't believe it was her.
I did time with Kayla at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, We both literally came to FCCW the same day just she was from Henrico I was from Richmond and I would have never suspected this from her because it's like a whole totally different person

I'm not a lawyer but I do like to research law. Here is what I found...
A suspended sentence allows a defendant a chance to remain in the community, keep their job, fulfill family obligations, and seek help for behavioral health, substance abuse, or other issues that might have contributed to the criminal behavior. Since in today's story the defendant didn't have a criminal history it sounds like although this was a terrible crime, the judge used the lack of criminal history to suspend sentencing.
By staying a productive member of the community, a defendant may have a better chance of rehabilitating and not committing more crimes.
Suspended sentences can also provide an incentive to remain law-abiding AND reduce the strain on the state created with over crowding jails.
The pin is from their pin debit account. Inmates also call it their 2nd pin. It is used to cal out to whomever they want . There is another account call direct pay which means that the inmate can only 1 specific number. I work a call center for commutations. Phone, video visitation and emails… 😊

My ex almost killed my mom, no justice at all they let him go because the DA said they didn't have enough to hold up in court. The laws really fkn suck sometimes.
She did it and deserved a life sentence without parole bc she also endangered the lives of others. After she serves 85%, she can be considered for release. There was enough evidence.

She deserved a life sentence. For the Love of God, she murdered an innocent woman, her unborn innocent baby and attempted/planned the murder of her own daughter's father. Had she been successful, this would've qualified her as a serial killer!

Absolutely NO justice at all.
This is a tough one - the disregard for the safety of the entire apartment complex struck me hard. So the sentence did not seem like it was just, but I don’t know that there was enough evidence to get a conviction. So while I don’t think justice was served for the family, I also think this was the best that could be done with the lack of evidence - I think there would have been at least one juror who could not be certain enough to find guilt
What I will never get is with ALL OF THE BLOOD ALL over that townhouse, covering the walls, doors, doorknobs, light fixtures etc.... they could find nothing of the BIIIH who perpetrated that heinous crime against a pregnant woman????😳🤔 then she was allowed to plead out!! My sister who's an attorney has been trying to get me to understand this case, yet she believes that had she still been a prosecutor she would've worked, no matter how long it to get her put away for life!! Even she doesn't see the Braxton family having true justice, but she gets why they didn't get it....

Kayla is a delusional psychopath and 30 years is not nearly long enough. I feel like there was enough evidence and any jury would have convicted her. Motive alone was huge. At least she won’t be able to ruin her poor daughter. This case is awful.
There was no physical evidence, but clearly she did it and is behind bars where she belongs.

I think it was smart, I'm perplexed on how no solid evidence was found due to the amount of time I would think the murderer spent in the apartment, but we don't know what circumstantial evidence the judge would allow a jury to hear and also anything like DNA, fibers, hairs, " E.T.C. E.T.C." could have been explained by her attack in that same apartment only 3 days prior. Oh and the bf not being stoked about the baby and him still having a sexual relationship with his ex, but sharing intimate details about the woman he was lucky enough to land and should have been loypbasedalso complicates things making his testimony trash (unless he was going to tell the truth of how he had betrayed his wonderful gf) also presents an alternative suspect, by way of getting a 3rd party to do the horrible act. I wonder if he had stopped sleeping with his baby mother as well as not continued an inappropriate emotional relationship with her if this would have even happened. I just feel that especially after his ex stabbed his gf in the head he should have been going to pick up his daughter at a different location and taking steps to keep his gf safe, like getting some sort of security system, talking to the neighbors and asking them to call the cops if they saw, heard, or experienced anything suspicious and so on... His daughter stayed there too, seems like since he knew that it wasn't him and his daughter in danger that he was just kinda selfish, pretty much only protecting him getting what he wanted. These are just assumptions based on my experiences and watching others experiences. The bf could have been great. I don't believe that he planned this with his ex, but I do think that he knew that it was a possibility and I do think he was at the least, complacent, at the most, actively making it worse by messing with the mother of his childs emotions. That isn't an excuse for her to end someone innocent in this and harm so many others. One more thing, if she was just acting like this with no indication from her ex that he was still into her, wouldn't that worry him? Especially knowing she was violent. If she was doing this just over a future that didn't end up coming to be with no continued affections from him would that not have you frightened for the state of mind of this person and have you running to the court house to get full custody of your daughter, at least until she gets help? Man, I am really spending more time than necessary over analyzing why it happened, how it was not stopped, seems pretty obvious that it was more than a possibility and could have been prevented. Ok I'm done. Just to sad for me not to ponder. She didn't deserve this and should be here today, still being a good person in a world that desperately needs every single good person, being a wonderful mother to a child who would, more than likely, also grow to be a good human and continuing to bring light to her family, friends, and strangers.

crazy asf cause i'm a black girl that lives in henrico right now AND i go to virginia state!!!!!! i have maybe 3 female friends that have died in the past year in disturbing ways. please research my friend Adrionna West from Petersburg, VA. She got killed about 2 weeks ago but there was a note left in her car. Another one is Anisa Sistare of Chesterfield, VA. There are sooooo many other student deaths from Virginia State University its actually scart

I don't think I've heard of this case before but I do consume a massive amount of true crime content so it's possible that I have. I don't think that the sentence this perpetrator received was at all harsh enough due to the horrible circumstances of this murder, being the fact that the victim was pregnant. Sure I think the boyfriend involved here was probably playing both of these women but that still doesn't mean that you can kill a person. This is the type of perpetrator that I believe would be likely to offend again if she thought someone was getting in the way of someone or something that she wanted.

Her family was " good people "? Good people don't turn their back on their daughters fiance, the man she loved, and the father of her daughter. Kenny OBVIOUSLY had nothing to do with her death. IF he was double dipping, that is between himself and Kiona, as she obviously accepted it for what it was. If she didn't, she wouldn't have been prepared to marry him.
