I'm a former city dweller turned organic farmer and I've had chickens for ten years with every coop design imaginable. I think I've finally designed the perfect chicken coop for my needs- it's a SELF CLEANING, mobile chicken coop, predator-proof coop design. It's super efficient, it keeps my chickens safe, makes egg collection easy, and, bonus, it's a tiny version of my existing barn here on the farm! This chicken fortress keeps pests and predators away, is well ventilated, and, best of all, it can be pulled around the farm with my golf cart! Keeping chickens mobile is the best way to take advantage of their "chicken-ness" and use it for the good of the farm. With a mobile coop, chicken food costs stay low because they forage for greens, and bugs on their own. Free range chickens are the happiest, healthiest birds. They turn all those greens and protein into rich, delicious eggs with deep orange yolks. They aerate the soil with their scratching and dusting, keep fly and bug populations down, and fertilize the grass while automatically mowing it! Stationary coops are popular, but they concentrate the chickens in a single area making disease, bad smells, bugs and scorched earth from concentrated manure a lot more prevalent. Rotating the chickens makes our grass healthier, keeps our fly population down, and helps keep our livestock from having parasite problems. I really liked the 'building the nest box' shot ,,, where a chicken is sitting just above your head ... supervising everything you're doing.
There are a lot of animal supervisors always looking over my shoulder, disapproving of everything I do ;)

Okay. I'm hooked on this project even though I live in an overcrowded Los Angeles neighborhood with a landlord who won't allow us to have chickens. I'll have to live the country life vicariously through you. Please post next video ASAP. This afternoon would be good.😎👍 (I guess your chicken foreman drives you pretty hard.) I do have one concern. I saw rabbits who had their feet & nails ripped apart when coyotes got under a hutch with a wire floor. It was awful. Maybe fold down panels in outside for when it's stationary to keep predators from getting underneath
P Taylor she has an electrified-fence around their perimeter to keep them out. That plastic white netting stuff she climbed over. They’ll be good and safe.

I used a TSC Trailer to build an enclosed trailer for our road trips. After five years it is still going strong. Great idea for the chickens, I wish you all the best for your farm.

We bought our last trailer from Tractor Supply. It was significantly cheaper than Lowes/HomeDepot/NorthernTool/etc for the same identical trailer (they all are made by Carry-On) by a few hundred bucks.
Yeah I was really pleased with it, it was exactly what I was looking for at a fraction of the cost I expected.
Very nice. Now I just need to figure out how to insulate it for winter use in the north. Straw on the floor, during the cold months, perhaps. And sandwich walls. And ventilation with heat exchange.
Straw on the floor and a removable solid panel for the front gate is how I plan to do it!

You make me feel old. I was 19 and working at a Christian bookstore when that VeggieTales episode came out. They played that "Where is my Hairbrush" several times a day for months straight, that I memorized it. But I didn't mind. It's a really fun song. 😂

Built one when I had chickens, 8' x 12' X 24 high, covered in chicken wire, light enough to pull around with a chicken waterer on a shelf. Kind of minimalist style.

Nice build! If you mount a rain barrel to the tongue of the trailer you can collect straight off the roof of that coop and not have to worry about hauling water to them (as much).

Awesome coop! How do the chickens handle the open, grilled floor during cold temperatures in the wintertime?
No issues, though if you live in a colder climate than me it would be wise to drop down some hay or other insulation for the winter
Looks great! My concern are snakes getting into the coop through the grating holes
I'm doing this with a greenhouse, and now you've inspired me to do this for the chickens too. Right on. Do you think a couple goats could be transported in it, in crates? Was thinking about having a fold-out goat pen, I don't need room for quite as many chickens as you.
probably would be fine without crates if you were to drop in a sheet of plywood for the floor. The grate wouldn't be... great.... for their feet.

I noticed in the comments that you said you planned to use a straw bed and close the opening where the gate is to help insulate in the winter. You posted it at least a year ago. We live in Greeneville, TN near the Cherokee National Forest. It is a little colder here than in Nashville. We are finishing up our mobile chicken coop (thanks for the brilliant idea) and I am curious if that was sufficient. Was it? Thanks Anne!
Hey! Actually I’ve not even needed to use it at all- two winters in, I’ve not had a single issue with birds getting too cold in that coop :) during cold snaps I’m careful to park it so the walls make a wind block, and the heat of the birds huddled together has kept the whole flock toasty warm without having to do anything else. but I do stand by the thought that straw would be a great insulator if you did really need it.

Awesome idea and a great build as usual. Only thing I would look out for is snakes coming up through the floor. But who knows, maybe a small snake would just turn into chicken feed.
I did think about that, but I think snakes small enough to fit through the slats would become chicken food. I’ve seen my chickens eat smaller snakes several times. If they were to get in, if they had a full meal while in the coop, they’d probably get stuck.

I am partially disabled this is going to make my life so much easier..Thank you so much for such a great video... but for me I would have to add extra rodent protection underneath... I am a retired health inspector so I am always looking for holes or openings to cover..a Dime size hole is what a mouse can fit through and a quarter size hole is what a rat can fit through ... Thanks again
