I'm a younger guy and a first time homeowner. This video really helped me a ton after I broke the original ceiling fan in my Dad's bedroom moving some stuff around. He's wheelchair-bound from a stroke so it's up to me to figure out how to fix stuff around the house. Video tutorials like these help out so much, and I swear people who make TH-cam tutorials carry modern society haha. A tip for others replacing ceiling fan: Make sure the electrical housing & brace is sturdy and preferably metal. The housing that held up my old ceiling fan was this flimsy PVC thing that had stripped screw holes along with stripped screws themselves. Do yourself a favor and stay safe, and get yourself a new metal one. I bought the RACO 1-Gang Gray Steel New Work Standard Ceiling Fan Ceiling Electrical Box because I had attic access to screw in the bracket. (The old bracket was even bent out of shape) The "New construction" ones are ideal being that the "old construction" ones just use spikes and outward force to lock into your ceiling joists. If the fan is off-kilter for any reason, that bracket could come out a lot easier than a screwed one. You can also use wire-caps on the electrical if you don't want to shut off the circuit-board switch to the fan you're working on. Mine was cutting off our TV and internet, so cutting off power like that to work on this for a couple hours would have really sucked for an elderly parent like my Dad or a child. I've learned that installing a ceiling fan definitely isn't like switching out a light bulb 🤣🤣

It's just a receiver on this model. Its covered. If yours is an exposed black wire we may be dealing with a different model
