Don't Worry Be Happy was terribly overplayed back in the day, but nowadays if I hear it I love it again. We all loved it back then, even if we don't admit it publicly. So mellow, so positive, so darn likeable!
Wait…are you saying the majority of folks do not like “Don’t Worry Be Happy”? How? What? Why? Dancing badly to that song is the closest I will ever get to a spiritual experience. I love it so much.
Absolutely. I've recommended it 2 a couple of people that I know that I believe suffer from depression. (I know they are in therapy. They haven't told me for what, and I don't want to put them on the spot. They may not be ready to tell me.)
Absolutely the best feel-good song of all time. beside that, Lesley gore's Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. Credence Clearwater revival's Proud Mary and Out My Back Door, Followed by Moody Blues' Nice to be here.
Two I thought of: The Lion Sleeps and I'm Still Standing...my teenage son and I have been going back and forth coming up with our Happy Songs. Thanks for this great video which is creating a wonderful mom/son time ❤️ (He loves Guardians of the Galaxy music, which he didn't realize was music I grew up with😏)
Just want to add ... "I Can See Clearly Now" - both the Johnny Nash and the Jimmy Cliff versions. But OMG ... How I do love Redbone and Come And Get Your Love! ❤
We can thank Peter Quill for the resurgence of "Come and Get Your Love" on Guardians of the Galaxy. Many young people had never heard it before that movie. It is definitely one of my all time favorites.
I just KNEW someone would come along with vacuous Beatles crap. They never did a song having and full emotion at all. (I had hundreds of albums, as many tapes, as many CDs, and NOT ONE was a Beatles. I've played music transcribed for guitar from 1400s through this century - NEVER once would a vapid beatle tune even move an emotional needle ) There is so much depth of feeling expressed in music. Look for it.
I would have to add "Come on Eileen" and "Hooked on a feeling" to this list somewhere. I know this is your personal top 5, and maybe these are only on mine. I'm not saying these songs are necessarily better, but rather, when I hear them, they take me away from everything, and soon I'm singing along to them.
BJ Thomas' Hooked on a Feeling is wonderful. Blue Swede's version, not so much, IMHO. I'm not into the ooga chakas. That's my opinion, of course; others may disagree.
The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun" has been a LIFELONG favorite of mine, and I BLAST it the moment I see a crocus coming up through the snow. I'm 65. Yes, I get funny looks, but I'm an old hippie and I'm used to it.
Brian Wilson is a genius. I met him once and I was awestruck. He asked me what my name was. I told him my first name. Then he asked me what my last name was. I told him and he said, "What?" I told him again. He said, "Oh! My last name is Wilson!" He really thought that I didn't know. What a sweet man.
“Come and Get Your Love” is just a joyful masterpiece! I am instantly 10 years old and skating around the rink as fast as I can. It’s just the joy of Saturday, no adult worries and wide open skies ahead. I remember those days. The song immediately makes me smile no matter where I am when I hear it.
I would have included "Looking Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Watch the official video on TH-cam and try not to smile as they play the song with giant grins on their faces.
I am over 70 and have loved all these songs....BUT I can't believe the song " HAPPY by Pharrell Williams " didn't make the list !!! ... That song makes my heart SOAR every time I hear it!!
YES!! I love this when I was a kid in '66, but I had older brothers and a sister, who introduced me to music that was about a decade before my time would have been! I can remember listening to this out by the pool, waiting to go on holiday with my family.. The sun was out, it was warm outside, and I was bouncing a rubber ball against the house. This was a fabulous pick! I looked it up and my hubby and I sang it out loud here in the living room!

Redbone is a great pick. Many don’t realize the musical talent competition of the 70’s. Hits poured out like Niagara Falls. It’s why time proves how great they really are. Mr Blue Sky is awesome! I feel better now! Thanks Adam.
Boston's "Peace of Mind" and "Don't Look Back"... They have been in my mental first-aid kit for more than 40 years. I wish they could've helped Brad Delp. What a heartbreaking irony... A friend of mine went to a Beach Boys concert on New Year's eve back around 1976/77. As he describes it, they were playing Good Vibrations and had to interrupt it for the countdown to the new year. After all the celebrating they suddenly stopped and went into the iconic "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, good, good good good vibrations" and finished the song. Great way to ring in the new year. I saw the Beach Boys in July of 1976 at Anaheim Stadium. I had a bad headache from being out in the heat all day long and the Beach Boys came on singing Fun, Fun, Fun and my headache vanished. Come on, all of their songs are feel-good songs.
@raynelson6575, I saw them in 77 at Madison Square Garden. I was in the 4th row and at the n particular concert, my sister caught a pillow that was thrown off the stage by Dennis Wislon. Unfortunately, 🔊 someone grabbed the pillow right out of her hands! They were there with Chicago that night. I was so little that I had to stand in front of my brother. I still have my shirt. You could choose the front of your shirt. Either the BB or Chicago. I have BB on my front & Chicago on the back! I wore it as a dress home that night! 😅 wonderful memories!
@@user-DonsWoman Did you see them with the Beach Boys and Chicago that year? Honestly, I really can't remember what year it actually was. It might have been 78. I was the "tag a long" that year. I was still into the music, but my brother and sisters had to take me, in order to go to the concert. It's funny. I always dreamt of meetings the guys in the band. Years ago some where in the 2001? I snuck behind stage at John Jay College in NYC. Chicago was putting on a show for PBS. They didn't publicize the concert except in a small spot in a local paper, and for students at that time. I luckily got in with my sister who scored the tickets. Unfortunately, they were nosebleed seats. BUT during the break, Security came up to that section and asked who was screaming at the top of your lungs!? I coyly put up my arm up, and every one around us was pointing to my sister and I. Low and behold they told us to come with them. So we both gathered our stuff and thought we were being kicked out. NOT SO! Our enthusiasm got us bumped up to the front & center row of the auditorium! I couldn't believe it! We bought the CD for that night because you can hear what great lungs both my sister and I have! I laugh every time I think about it. The cherry on top was getting to meet all the original band members! Robert Lamm was a bit stand-offish, but the other guys were great. I have a book of pictures with them and their autographs. It was magical!!! Jimmy Pankow is just as happy as he looks on stage. Walter Parazader is very tall and sweet. He's got beautiful skin too. Lee Laughlin was very sweet too. Danny Seraphin was long gone but the drummer who replaced him was unbelievably outstanding Triss something.. I don't remember what his last name. The only reason I do remember him first name was because that is my nickname, Trissy. Gosh, I feel so blessed to have been alive and so close to NYC , I live in Jersey. I not only got to hear the music but I got to experience it first hand. So, so lucky. You name the group, I can probably say that I've sent them live! Most impressive to this day was Earth, Wind & Fire playing with Chicago at PNC in Holmdel NJ. Fabulous!
Pharrell Williams “Happy” gets me dancing and puts a smile on my face every time it hear it. Monkees “Daydream believer”, 21st September, Celebration, I think we’re alone now, doesn’t seem to be anyone around…running just as fast as we can, holding onto one another’s hand…yep! That song makes me happy also. Dancing Queen…I could go on and on.
@@davidstrother496 Mungo Jerry’s In the Summertime is one of the best songs from that era. I had never heard it while growing up but it sure is an all-time classic.
Good Vibrations was a hit song when I was in the school orchestra, and I was busted playing my Viola like a guitar, playing the bass rhythm. The teacher looked at me with a scowl and said, "That's NOT a guitar." I got the message and stopped, but I had fun figuring out the notes to play.
when my daughter was about 10 she declared that she hated "Walking on Sunshine". So obviously my duty as a dad was to take advantage of that and dance in overexuberant joy whenever it came on to goad her to run over and force me to stop because she was embarrassed by me (but secretly loved because she was so shy she would never put herself out there in public like that otherwise). Unfortunately until you commit to such a path you have no idea how often this song pops up in the background at places. Oh well, you do what you have to do...
I live with clinical depression, and music can be like medicine for me. So I have a long list of go-to songs. Everyone's list is personal. Some of mine come from good memories, like Surrender by Cheap Trick (I sang it at my first karaoke performance with a co-worker), Too Much Time on my Hands by Styx (that was my ironic theme song when i was dealing with my first undiagnosed bout with Major depression while struggling just to keep my head above water as a Geophysics major and then Engineering major at Caltech). Motown and Jackie Wilson and Martha and the Vandellas and Stevie Wonder are always on my feel-good play list, as is Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen and ELO (of course) and Spencer Davis and so on. Because of my illness, my list is, basically, never-ending.

Two of my favorites are “In The Summertime” by Mungo Jerry and “Spirit In The Sky” by Norman Greenbaum. Ever since I was a kid growing up in the 60’s and 60’s, every time I heard those songs come on the AM radio, I’d start dancing. My hippie mom was so proud! 😊
Professor, I was in High School when Styx released Come Sail Away. I was in homeroom and the school DJ played Styx over the intercom. At first I thought it was an ad for recruitment into the Navy. I was totally blown away by the end of the song. Their LP is still one of my top-ten LPs of all time. The first three songs on side two are possibly the finest trio created n R&R history to wind up in a row on an LP.
Styx! Dennis and those words blending with that iconic voice! Just magical! And of course they are a hometown favorite! Love it! Happy Monday Professor! 😊
Nights in White Satin, by the Moody Blues. I know it isn't a get up and dance song, but when it plays I close my eyes and the stress just falls away. That flute solo!

I wish them the best in rebuilding as that's a great memory for me.

One thing I've always found fun about "Come Sail Away" is the look of the 45. The shift midway through the song was visible in the grooves of the vinyl, extremely obvious and really cool. (It was my friend's copy. I had the album cassette.)
"Looking Out My Back Door" CCR, "Here Comes The Sun" Beatles, "Feeling Groovy" S & G, "Fishing In The Dark" NGDB, "Happy Together" to name a few! Also, when I worked at NRF [Naval Reactors Facility' At the I.N.E.L, two sailors sang "Don't Worry, Be Happy" to me! Great memory. 🤠
Fishing in the Dark was my Mothers favorite song. So at all of her children's or even just out get togethers we'd play this song. And it's never been better than when toddlers know and sing along. Great memories. Thanks Man!
Someone mentioned it already, but “Don’t Worry Be Happy” is #1 for me. So simple but that is what makes it so effective. When feeling low, it is hard to get to the up feeling that a song like “Walking On Sunshine” begins with. DWBH starts at a low and builds you up with it.

@@bbarnhouse9022 Thanks for that! My husband has bipolar and hates the original version. He'd probably like this. I'll play it for him.😉
Wait…are you saying the majority of folks do not like “Don’t Worry Be Happy”? How? What? Why?
Dancing badly to that song is the closest I will ever get to a spiritual experience. I love it so much.

The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)
Song by Simon & Garfunkel
It's right there, giving instructions in the title. 😂
Absolutely. I've recommended it 2 a couple of people that I know that I believe suffer from depression. (I know they are in therapy. They haven't told me for what, and I don't want to put them on the spot. They may not be ready to tell me.)
I still sing it when I need a lift.
Absolutely the best feel-good song of all time. beside that, Lesley gore's Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. Credence Clearwater revival's Proud Mary and Out My Back Door, Followed by Moody Blues' Nice to be here.

"Roam" Hell yeah!
Two I thought of: The Lion Sleeps and I'm Still Standing...my teenage son and I have been going back and forth coming up with our Happy Songs. Thanks for this great video which is creating a wonderful mom/son time ❤️ (He loves Guardians of the Galaxy music, which he didn't realize was music I grew up with😏)
At age 67, I love all these songs, but Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling" really cheers me up and gets me moving.
Maybe not THE happiest, but "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles would have to be up there on my list.
Me too, I was a teenager and getting ready for school was softened by listening to this song on the record player.
Just want to add ... "I Can See Clearly Now" - both the Johnny Nash and the Jimmy Cliff versions. But OMG ... How I do love Redbone and Come And Get Your Love! ❤
I Can See Clearly Now has my vote. Always makes me feel good.
We can thank Peter Quill for the resurgence of "Come and Get Your Love" on Guardians of the Galaxy. Many young people had never heard it before that movie. It is definitely one of my all time favorites.
"Yellow Submarine" always makes me happy!
Whenever my kid starts playing the Beatles’ “Ob-La-di, Ob-la-da” on piano, the rest of us inevitably start singing. Such a happy song!
@@TPaine76 I LOVE that song. 😁
Yes yes yes 🎉

I just KNEW someone would come along with vacuous Beatles crap. They never did a song having and full emotion at all. (I had hundreds of albums, as many tapes, as many CDs, and NOT ONE was a Beatles. I've played music transcribed for guitar from 1400s through this century - NEVER once would a vapid beatle tune even move an emotional needle )
There is so much depth of feeling expressed in music.
Absolutely. Come On Eileen is irrepressible and undeniable. Hooked On a Feeling is one of my favourite songs ever.
YES!
BJ Thomas' Hooked on a Feeling is wonderful. Blue Swede's version, not so much, IMHO. I'm not into the ooga chakas. That's my opinion, of course; others may disagree.
Good choices!
Amen to hooked on a feeking
Top 3 feelgood: Beatles Here Comes The Sun, Monkees Daydream Believer, and of course the Beach Boys Good Vibrations.
Excellent list
Great list! Can we add KC and the Sunshine Band’s Boogie Shoes?
The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun" has been a LIFELONG favorite of mine, and I BLAST it the moment I see a crocus coming up through the snow. I'm 65. Yes, I get funny looks, but I'm an old hippie and I'm used to it.
The first thiing that came to my mind was Kool & The Gang's "Celebration."

Brian Wilson is a genius. I met him once and I was awestruck. He asked me what my name was. I told him my first name. Then he asked me what my last name was. I told him and he said, "What?" I'm surprised that 'In The Summertime' by Mungo Jerry didn't make the list! It's one of the best feel good songs of all time....😊
“Come and Get Your Love” is just a joyful masterpiece!
Yeah! I had forgotten about that one! That's a fun one!
Great choice!!!
Look at all the happy creatures dancin' on the lawn!
Yup, it's the best song to jam to in your car after getting probed by a doctor who's a good man, and thorough.
I've always been a CCR fan❤❤❤

@@drozdych I love this song!!! It was my theme song in 1994 as I was dating a crazy guy….
“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen is one of the best pick me up songs of all time.
"Happy Together" does it for me. Takes me back to my wonderful childhood.
Loved it when I was growing up❤

I used to sing it often to my girlfriend, now wife of 28 years next Valentine's day. Perhaps I should break it out again on Valentine's day!
Loved them. You must be 60+ too!
@countryfrau8328 66. It was the first rock song I ever played the drums with, and it convinced me to get my own set.
Music is magical because people interpret it differently. We hear songs, and they make us think and also take us away to another place and time.
I agree. What's your top 5?
And we each have our own story tied to each song.

Redbone is a great pick. Many don’t realize the musical talent competition of the 70’s. Hits poured out like Niagara Falls. It’s why time proves how great they really are. Mr Blue Sky is awesome! I feel better now! Thanks Adam.
For me.. I can't help but get psyched, happy, and nostalgic when Van Halen's "Jump" starts playing. That opening keyboard is pure MAGIC!
Boston's "Peace of Mind" and "Don't Look Back"... They have been in my mental first-aid kit for more than 40 years. I wish they could've helped Brad Delp. What a heartbreaking irony... Thanks, Adam, for this great installment. Let's add a note to remember to keep looking out for each other this year and help folks feel connected and good. From the messages below, it sounds like music has helped many a music fan find the way out of some pretty dark places. DANCING QUEEN!
@raynelson6575,
I saw them in 77 at Madison Square Garden.
How exciting!!!!
My hubby & I went to the same Chicago concert before we knew each other.... 💕
@@user-DonsWoman
Did you see them with the Beach Boys and Chicago that year?
Most impressive to this day was
Earth, Wind & Fire playing with Chicago at PNC in Holmdel NJ. Fabulous!
I was there 16 me !!!🌊☀️✨

Pharrell Williams “Happy” gets me dancing and puts a smile on my face every time it hear it. Monkees “Daydream believer”, 21st September, Celebration, I think we’re alone now, doesn’t seem to be anyone around…running just as fast as we can, holding onto one another’s hand…yep! That song makes me happy also.
Dancing Queen…I could go on and on.
Saturday in the Park by Chicago. Reminds me of summer vacation as a kid and all the happy memories it brings every time I hear it.
I have a couple of other favorites. In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry, and Wooly Bully by Sam the Sham. They will surely make one feel good.
@@davidstrother496 Mungo Jerry’s In the Summertime is one of the best songs from that era. I had never heard it while growing up but it sure is an all-time classic.
Wooly Bully was great❤

Good Vibrations was a hit song when I was in the school orchestra, and I was busted playing my Viola like a guitar, playing the bass rhythm. The teacher looked at me with a scowl and said, "That's NOT a guitar." I got the message and stopped, but I had fun figuring out the notes to play.
Thougths on Beatles "Here Comes the Sun" and Oliver's "Good morning starshine"
when my daughter was about 10 she declared that she hated "Walking on Sunshine".

My husband has bipolar and for some reason doesn't hear the words so he listens to a lot of world music.

One thing I've always found fun about "Come Sail Away" is the look of the 45. The shift midway through the song was visible in the grooves of the vinyl, extremely obvious and really cool. (It was my friend's copy. I had the album cassette.)
