that was one hell of a hidden gem for me! drove there without really planning but my god that road is stunning! i think i made my best picture at that lake. such good memories:)
That road is a hidden gem, for sure! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice drive. Done this a few times. Not a whole lot of traffic on this road usually.
Couple of things I'm not sure was mentioned. The road is fairly new and opened in 1974 due to extensive hydro power construction in the mountains. There are 5 power stations inside the mountains totaling almost 1300MW installed capacity. Entrance gate to the largest of the 5 stations is @1:06:06 on the right ;)
Thank you for the information @Gazer75! I have now done more research, and have added some information about the power plants in the subtitles at 58:20 and a little bit about the road in the beginning at 4:30 :)
@@NorwegianRoads @4:50 There was still a ferry until Gudvangatunnelen opened in 1991. The shorter and steeper Flenjatunnelen opened in 1985, but only gave road connection to the Undredal valley.
@@NorwegianRoads You actually drive next to the substation for Aurland 3 power station @45:46 and @46:25 you can see the spillway weir just outside the tunnel. This reservoir has two purposes. Its the intake for Aurland 2 and also used by Aurland 3 as lower reservoir where water can be pumped up to the much larger reservoir called Nyhellervatn around 400m higher up. The turbine hall is below and to the right inside the mountain as you pass through the tunnel.
@@Gazer75 Ah. I had been reading a little to fast on my research there. Thanks again for the clarification :) I have fixed the mistake with the Gudvangatunnelen now.
Thank you for this nice video in very good quality. Please give ne information, which cam you used. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for watching and commenting :) I used a GoPro Hero 8 for this video.
