I always like to share a bit of history with my videos. We learn as we go. Enjoy!

One of my favorite campgrounds! The fog horn kinda slips away in the mind as it is mostly every 10 seconds.

Love Doran Beach! We don't camp, but like to spend the day at the beach when we know it's gonna be sunny! Its THE best beach in Bodega Bay to actually get in the water (for kids). Its safe unlike most of the other beaches in Sonoma County. Thanks for the history lesson as well.

I don’t know how long this post has been up but thank you for walking me down memory lane. My family used to go camping there in the 1960s with our 19 1/2 foot Ideal trailer. We at the time called it the Jetty, now they call it Doran Beach but that doesn’t mean anything to me. You were able to camp anywhere you wanted in no particular spots. We used to park our trailer right on the I think it’s north side of the jetty almost down to the breaker point where they come in with the boats and so we were right next to the water. Our favorite thing to do or at least my dad started it because somebody told him about it was Saturday night we go eat at the Union Hotel in Occidental which was about oh 15 minutes away or so. It’s a Italian food and the best. They used to have banana fritters for dessert which we would save and have them next morning for breakfast. Whenever I could when I still lived in California would drive there for a couple nights and stay at the Tides or should I say the new Tides hotel not the original orange and white buildings. At the tides restaurant I would always get a crab Louie but then they’re not the same anymore so I bypass that now. I now live in Missouri and my hope is to get back there next year when I have to go to Washington and my family is still in Sacramento. Again thank you for the memories as Bob hope used to say.

Oh wow!!! Great memories! The Union Hotel is still there in Occidental. We used to go there many years ago for fantastic Italian dinners served family style. I’m so glad the video brought you back to a special time in your life.

Sorry to let you know that the Amaryllis, the Iceplant, and the dune grass are all non-native. The grass is called European Dune grass.

Try Spud Point for the best clam chowder in the area next time you're there.
