Not a fan of general sailing vids but bloody hell you knocked it out of the park with great editing, informative history, personal moments and the list goes on. Stay on this course!!!. Thank you!
Great video, full of informations (for all of us non Brits) about landmarks and navigational challenges. Also, fun fact, @14:25, the world's largest place name is "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit" and belongs to the city of Bangkok! Cheers... 😊
Heaps of envy by me.....Somewhere in my family heritage is that of sailors, chandlers and sail makers etc. Thanks for explaining most items onboard. . so as a land lubber I can begin to learn from your episodes.....The horizon beckons you...happy days.👍
new horizons for you guys im so happy for you you have worked so hard for this now go and enjoy your life dont rush it enjoy every second all the very best jeff
An auto helm is a must for your travels. It will totally change life onboard. Trying to helm even short distances it so more accurate. Lovely filming, really enjoyed it.
Wow what a great episode, one of the best yet. I've watched them all since you started working on Steel Melody and although they've all been interesting, this is what it was all leading up to. It was so relaxing watching you sailing around the beautiful welsh coast, I'm very jealous, though not of all the years of hard work and sacrifices that you've both made. I know that coastline well which makes it all the more interesting. Loved the Welsh, I hadn't realised you were that fluent Andy. Can't wait for the next episode. Fair winds and happy sailing!
Very enjoyable video, much nicer music too. Actually, was nice to see you enjoying your yacht after your hard work. I've been watching you do this yacht up for the past 3 days now, bit of a rollercoaster ride to say the least. Well done! 🙂
Congratulations Folks. Great to see you under way. Personally, I preferred the sound without the noise suppression. The engine/boat noises add to the atmosphere. Fair Winds! Have a great time!
The engine noise is hugely different depending on the exact position of the camera and the direction it’s facing. It’s really unpredictable, You can have the camera in one place and the noise isn’t too bad. Then, without changing the revs on the engine, place the camera just a few inches away facing a slightly different direction and orientation and the mic picks up the engine way more.
Thank you so much for this video. Watching a slow journey, taking in the various places of interest along the way and the family activities on board is so nice. Plenty of channels provide content if we want to watch a fast trip around the world, which I occasionally do!. But it is lovely to join your family trip and have us experience the journey with you.
The normal sound was great with no hint of the engine. With the noise reduction off the sound was a little noisier but still acceptable with all speech very clear. Even then the engine noise was mostly covered by wind and sea sounds. Enjoy your freedom!
So much enjoy the geography history and cultural info you work into the great video. That said, the cruising and family interaction is priceless......good work
As ever smashing edition of your adventure especially liked the scene with Melissa on the bow doing the filming and I just thought of the Duran Duran video her name is rio but your one was more enjoyable. I feel I'm with you on your adventures. Best of wishes Simon
@SailingMelody Dear Andy and family, I have just returned from the Netherlands after carrying out some work on our own boat which live out there and I think I saw a sister ship to ocean melody in the harbour of veere do you know what class of boat she was and how many were produced... I know you probably have mentioned the manufacturers name previously but it may be a good content idea if you were to find other versions on your travels to compare the different fitout options and sail configurations like we have with our own boat.... Lastly my offer still stands as an old boat builder if you need help fixing stuff still like to keep my hand in...
The adventure is afoot! Awesome! Love being along for the journey! "The Swellies" Great word. In my neck of the world we have "Shovelfull shoals" and "The shibbles".
Congrats on your daughter's wedding. A variety of motoring and sailing conditions. Good to see Jack get some sailing oportunities. That was one long Welsh name to pronounce. Great video.
BTW I really like the cockpit cover (is that the right name?) it's practical with the solar panels on, looks great and must be quite cosy out of the worst of the elements.
I loved and appreciated the tour through Menai Strait. As I have said before, my grandfather served on the small (80ft) Navy Motor Launches there during WW1 when they searched for submarines and drifting mines. He had lots of stories of the area and taught me to pronounce Llanfai PG which has been my Welsh party trick ever since. Thank you for bringing his stories to life for me.
I was wondering if you had any Welsh and it was so good to hear that you have! As a Liverpudlian and a frequent visitor to North Wales I always made a great effort to pronounce place names correctly. It shows respect for a unique culture. I have fond memories of Beaumaris and sailing Hilbres in the Menai Straits regatta. My first yacht "delivery" was from West Kirby to Beaumaris! You never tire of making a new landfall.
Andy, Melissa, Jack and Ollie: such a lovely episode. Your cinematography is absolutely outstanding. We have always loved your content and editing and are so Happy the Family has finally after years of toil and labor on both Melody's, able to enjoy the fruits of your Labor. Melissa, the mainsail stack pack is perfect, both in function, beauty and your chosen material. Happily we'll await future experiences and family fun. Thank you for your delightful sailing channel.
The sounds of the yacht is the best part when watching your adventure, it is what makes it such an amazing lifestyle. I think Olie is so relaxed on the yacht he is literally being knocked out by the sound and movement
I hope Jack embraces the opportunity to learn navigation, boat handling and spend a lot of time on the helm. It can open up great possibilities helming large boats, racing boats etc. wonderful video.
I loved the commentary in Welsh. Even though there were subtitles, I think the brain benefits from hearing different languages as much as possible. Thank you
Really excited for you all. I watch your adventures from a comfy chair in a comfy house wishing I was doing the same. You’re (collective) energy and will to stretch for a ‘different’ future is fantastic. I wish you all the very best on the adventures and memories to come. Bravo.
Very cool. Cwmbran is lovely. When I transferred over from West Midlands ambulance service to Welsh ambulance service I did my induction and clinical support desk training at vantage point house in Cwmbran and so I spent quite a bit of time there. Very prettt
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you speak Welsh. I have a soft spot for the "underdog" languages, like Welsh, Irish, Scottish and more. So good to hear them in use!
God Speed and God Bless your family on this voyage you have worked so hard to achieve. Jack will learn and grow so much we love you all and be safe Jack. We look forward to all your adventures.
Lovely video Andy and Melissa Jack and olly all looking so relaxed I think the short hops are brilliant you are getting used to ocean melody she is behaving well see you next week 😊😊
Nice to see ya all so relaxed and that's what it is all about. 😅 Good to see Jack on the Hem as well. 😂 I spose it seems hard to believe ya on ya way ❤. Just remember ya in no hurry to be anywhere.😮 Keep at it.😅
Thank you for an honest, very enjoyable and informative video. Its great seeing you guys achieving your dreams. Looking forward to seeing more adventures 😊
was a nice surprise last weekend after watching your video to walk outside and see you moored in the marina i see everyday. the boat looks much more racy in real life to me. Happy Sailing!
Wonderful video. I didn't want it to end. I could feel the movement of the boat as if I were there. I really miss that feeling more than l realised. Thank you all for a really enjoyable trip. ❤Cliff.
As far as the negative comments are concerned. You make it quite clear in you introduction your plans and intentions. And I know when I watch you what your trying to achieve and it's just what I would have dinr in your position. Even down to me admiring your boat when she was in Gampton. I was looking at the Nicholson for a friend in front of yours. Keep up the great work. I nmhave followed you from the beginning. And have enjoyed all you have done.
You’re off, how wonderful. I’ll never forget the feeling when we did the same. Regarding your Raymarine speed through water transducer, ours was a constant problem that three Raymarine techs couldn’t fix until we found an old guy on the brink of retirement who said the problem wasn’t the transducer so much but the splice in the cable that many people do to save having to run a complete new cable. Ours was spliced and he took the time to check it all and there were small intermittent voltage drops with the slightest movement of the cable even though the soldered joints looked fine. He replaced it with a new transducer (which only come complete with new cable) all the way back to the helm station and there have been very few problems since. But there are two other things to do. One is every few months is to remove the transducer and knock the axle pin out of the paddlewheel, shine it up with some emery cloth and grease both the paddle wheel pin and the whole paddle wheel and yoke with the genuine grease comes with the new transducer (or just use vaseline) and this keeps it free and stops marine growth blocking it. The other is that if it does stop working you can still get a true wind setting by choosing ground wind speed (and direction) on your plotter rather than true wind, as ground wind is derived from the GPS derived course and speed over ground. True wind of course requires a speed through water reading. The Raymarine manual also has a really handy means of calibrating your speed through water motoring at constant rpm on a diamond shaped course to take account of tides and other currents. Works brilliantly. The other thing about Raymarine is their customer support, you can ring them and they actually answer their phone and a real person will help you through the process. Even if their products were absolute rubbish (as many claim), this alone is a big plus for them and is in very marked contrast to their competitors.
The Welsh coast line is stunning, my dad used to have a boat moored in Porthmadog and then moved it to Pwllheli in later years when I was a kid back in the 80's. I've been up and down that coast line lots of times as a kid - I have fond memories of Wales a fantastic place!
Watching this reminded me of my early days sailing in the Severn Estuary. I thought watching tide tables intensely, rocks in the middle of nowhere and every other navigational hazard known to man was entirely normal. Having spent years sailing first the West Coast of the US and then the Med, I now know that the entire British West coast is the toughest sailing area in the world! If you can sail there, you can sail anywhere!
Have you ever tried Drift Sailing? That is proceeding by only sail when there is only one or two knots of wind and the sea is almost calm. It is a good skill to have and one to practice when you are not in any hurry.
@@SailingMelody I did not mean when there is a hast for any reason. I am referring to doing it as a training exercise for the day when it is the only choice.

She is a Bowman 46 Corsair im not sure how many were made. She was built in 1974 in Southampton I believe. Thanks Simon 👍
The engine is noticeable but not obtrusive. Beautiful area to be traveling through.
