    Yamaha needs this motor in their 2 seater r spec ASAP. They do that and keep the price around 15k and the r spec will start to dominate the market. Gear it to be bottom end power up to mid range, top end doesn't need much power for "realistic trail riding". Just need good low end power/torque for the trails :)

    i have to argue, with the rear seating. I sat in the back of one today im 6'4 265lbs and thought there was plenty of room considering the size of the unit

    Everyone who has sat in one front or back has mentioned how comfortable and roomy it was. And Holy Cow! It is so quiet. You can unlimit the speed on these and get them over 60 for sure! But seriously you have to hear how quiet it is.

      Please tell us what no one else knows. How do you get past 51 MPH speed limiter.

    I'd really like to see a short wheel-base 4 seater rec/utility shootout. Honda P1K5, Yam X4, Kawi T4, etc. In the market and cant decide.

    You didn't show how easy it is to completely remove the rear seats and tracks.. 4 bolts to remove seat backs and tracks and 2 each for the seat bottoms, greatly increasing cargo capacity for hunting in pairs, hauling firewood, etc. 5 minute operation. And a local dealer custom built a roof rack for me to haul my Jackson Kayak that could be modified more for cargo.

    Nice rig at first I wasn't too impressed I felt it was a carbon copy of the Kawasaki with Less storage capacity in the back when the four seats are in place but after researching it I noticed they took care of the three problems with the Kawasaki teryx4 the noise the ride and the heat problems and it looks like they have more of a selection of accessories then Kawasaki it looks like Yamaha made a storage box that snaps into the back after you remove the tailgate and a heater to add on well done Yamaha I'm sure the quality is top-notch simply because all the Japanese manufacturer make top quality machines

    Strange that the engine curve is kind of doggy on the bottom end as he put it, but under geared for top end speed. Sounds like a bad combination all around there...lol! Seriously though I would imagine knowing Yamaha's and having he Ultramatic with a centrifugal clutch and constant belt tension it probably more than likely just "feels" smoother and less powered at engagement rpms and speeds as its not a belt slammer that revs and then shoots. I would imagine it is purposely clutched this way also to have a smooth quiet ride, and even for better fuel mileage...I bet the aftermarket will go nuts with this new drivetrain...Could be wrong I would have to drive one for awhile. You would think with being a twin engine and "69"hp overall it would feel quite snappy off the line. Controlled belt tension or not,,not sure what the torque numbers are and where but it will most definitely be interesting to see where it stands vs the Teryx 800 and the Pioneer 1000. No CVT on the Honda, so good and bad for that machine...Good that it should be very responsive depending on the clutch set up, bad that even though "geared" machines tend to hold up well, and give you a better "feel" of the machine and terrain. I'm just not sold on the DCT system yet...Man what an expensive repair that would be if something internal broke compared to a burnt belt,,,but I do prefer gears being more of a motorcycle/enduro bike rider. Good job Yamaha on making another model for a different class...and taking your time to put it out while slow, it sure beats constant new models being thrown at us every other year, or every year without enough testing imo before they are put up for sale for our hard earned cash.

    • @gregrowe1168
      @gregrowe1168 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More like if that happens. It would be a great Grizzly engine for sure. Would be a good engine for a 50" utv as well like a smaller YXZ.

    • @theirishaxe9405
      @theirishaxe9405 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greg Rowe if yamaha wants to stay relevant I'm sure they will do both a 50 inch utv and the upgraded engine in the grizzly.

      John Smith I'm about 90% sure this will be in the grizzly eventually. They have no choice at this point and I'm a long time Grizzly owner.

    I really want to ride east coast stuff pretty aggressively but have a family. MY ideal machine for me would be one of the new YXZ1000R but I have kids, how much fun/how much am I giving up if I got a teryx4 or wolverine for fun?

    • @drewjames8594
      @drewjames8594 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am literally in the exact same boat as you man. Would love the yxz for the trans mostly and might work 10 yrs ago. Got a 7yr old and one due in aug and need something practical to take the boys hunting etc.Had narrowed down to this and the teryx. You ever decide on one?

  • @MassiveOverkill
    @MassiveOverkill 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You guys may want to verify that it's not speed limited to 50 MPH. I cannot get faster than that going downhill. Dynojet had an X4 in for testing and as far as all reports go, it is speed limited. Of course I'd love to be wrong.

  • @Medic_548

    Would it be possible for you guys to do a X4, Teryx, and Honda shootout?!

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did a review on the Pioneer-5 last season I think and might be able to do a comparison story of these tow machines instead of a head to head shootout as I don't think we will be able to get both together on our turf for a bit.

    Please get this engine in the Grizzly!!! When they do I hope Honda is paying attention. The time for some reliable bulletproof Japanese quads with twin cylinders is LONG overdue.

      JohnnyRebKy totally agree on the ride, but they are fast and capable.

    • @JohnnyRebKy
      @JohnnyRebKy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im sure they are LOL. I grew up when 300cc Hondas were capable too.It took brains and rider skills back in the day to conquer the same things guys struggle on today with 1000cc quads. I get a good laugh out of it. But hell yes a Kawasaki 750 V twin would be more than capable with a old timer like me on it!!! Id love to have one. I may buy one next time anyhow and see if I can change the shocks and soften the ride up. I have a Polaris 570 Sportsman....rides great.....but im waiting for it to self destruct at any moment. Same clunky machine they were 20 years ago. I took a chance thinking maybe they changed. WRONG. Definitely going back to Japanese engineering next time. Oh and my Polaris was Made in Mexico while Kawasaki is made in Nebraska. I definitely wont be supporting Mexico workers again. My Hondas were made in South Carolina

      J Patt yes it has plenty of room the seats move back, have you seen the polaris xp 1000 4 seater? Definitely a joke, but honestly the x4 has plenty of rear leg room, you must of seen one with the seats all the way up front on the last settings

      It seems like Yamaha only wants one fast utv, that being the YXZ 1000. The Viking and other Wolverine models all top out at around 50 mph. Faster than the Rhino ever was but this engine is capable of so much more. Even more disappointing is the limiter Polaris puts on the Ranger 1000 4 door model which has considerably more power. The Teryx models are limited to around 50 mph as well. The Commander and General 4 door models are the only really fast sport/utility models.

    was excited....i think yamaha came up way....way...way short. people who ride a lot...defiantly will be disappointed. under powered, cheapish dodge neon seating, bullet proof trans n clutching....but with no real power, it just cant compete, unless you dump in a extra 5 grand to modify, looks like a jacked up gold cart......
    the boys at dirttrax always wanted an motor upgrade, however looks like its no big thing and no one was impressed or excited. fail on yamaha. looks like ill keep my 07 canam's the 500 and 800 are both 2 solid machines. my rxr4 800 was an awesome machine to take 4 full size adults on a ride, no worries or problems. quality was and still is an issue. had a commander 800 , lots of power but tippy n not a very good ride. the rzr 900 were insane for power and fun then the 1000's came out....5 years later yamaha comes out with a 850........i hear crickets..

    Meh, I'd rather go with a Kawasaki version or a Polaris Ranger. The backseats look like a pain to deal with. On the Kawasaki Mule Trans the seats fold right out of the way like a minivan. I would get excited if Yamaha put out a new Banshee type of quad or something like an Ace that had a mean 2 stroke motor in it. All of these companies are playing it too safe. They need to put something out there that makes you want to go to the dealership just to see it and buy it without your wife's permission!
