I so needed this! I'm trying to get back into riding as an adult and I fell for the first time ever and it's really messed with my brain. And it wasn't even the fault of myself or the horse! Just a total freak thing!

I recently had a bad fall and was badly hurt. I wouldn't get back on for weeks because I lost my confidence. But, I was told that I could fear horses or love them, so I chose the later. You are part of the reason I chose to get back on. You didn't get so far by luck! Thanks for helping me stay in the saddle!

Nice vidéo but I think sometimes getting your confidence back after falling off can be a great deal more complicated than just getting back on. At any rate it always spoils your pleasure in riding 😄

A few days ago I was riding my lesson horse and everything was going well, like usual. I bumped him up into a lope and he bucked but I managed to stay on. A few moments later he got into a mini bucking fit but I still stayed on. He finally calmed down so I got him back into a nice lope. He bucked again and this time I flew off. This isn’t my first time getting bucked off, and definitely won’t be the last. I luckily wasn’t injured but for some reason this fall really hurt my confidence. I think it’s because I had been doing so well and I was so confident and sure of myself, that this fall scared me. I’m not scared to ride him again but at the same time I am really reluctant to. Great video!

Hi there! So one week ago I had a big fall because my horse got scared of something and started cantering full speed I completely lost control of him and fall off against some fences and passed out. Only rode my horse once since the fall but only did walk Im afraid it will happen again and I won’t be able to get up what should I do?

Hi there! Firstly well done on getting here to ask for help! With fear it is important to work through what you can control, so start with your position and security in the saddle, if you are unbalanced then the chances of you falling off are higher. Watch these videos on exercises you can try while riding to see how secure you are - th-cam.com/video/wHRu20KsxZk/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/JldO2EYd5oc/w-d-xo.html then the next part is to work on riding your horse connected so the chances of him spooking are much lower (and you have tools to ride through it before it gets bad) th-cam.com/video/2tnEdWbL7Zw/w-d-xo.html and lastly, prepare your horse for when you ride outside the arena to make it as safe as possible th-cam.com/video/1QZ5euD_lJQ/w-d-xo.html

love your videos but personally my mare bolted and i couldnt stop her...so now when a horse starts speeding up i tense up and it makes me perform worse to the point where i cant ride sometimes. my point is sometimes its not entirely the riders fault and that can be more scary than falling off because of your own ability. would love some tips in that case

I had a bad fall a month ago where I broke and dislocated my shoulder and broke my arm when I was riding a green horse for a friend. The horse spooked and went crazy and I fell on the gravel. I have been riding for 16 years. The Docter said I can ride in three weeks. I feel that I can get on and ride my horses again as I didn't fall off one of them but I'm worried that when I actually have to get back on I might feel nervous again

So wish I could take that next step! 6 years ago my horse's stifle locked and he over reacted to my incorrect aids to go straight. He bucked and I went 45 feet before landing on my head and right side. I lay unconscious for 4 hours alone and 1hour more before being rescued. The back of my head caved in despite faithfully wearing my helmet. My lung collapsed, 1 kidney lost, 7 ribs broke, 5 vertebra broke, collar bone sticking out of my neck, right arm paralyzed, rt shoulder hamburger, spine now curved permanently in 3 directions and irreversible brain damage. I have overcome all the above but the trauma and have even been walked around on the very horse that did this. Bless his heart for staying by my side for those 5 hours and finally dragging my rescuers to where I lay. If only I had help consistently riding again, but there is no one in my area and too $$$ to go elsewhere. My soul is broken and lost without dressage. :(

Hi Tash, do you have any advice on starting to teach an old, lazy horse dressage? He has always been a jumper. He isn't lazy when he is jumping but when there are no jumps around he tends to get a bit bored and is hard to keep focused.

  • @walelu777

I had a bad fall in 2022. I bought a horse who had been severely abused and I overestimated my ability to help him. We had 6 good rides but one day he just went crazy. I tried to slide off for an emergency dismount during his bolting/bucking spell and got hung up in the stirrup which led to me being drug and trampled. I had a multitude of injuries that forever changed my body and life. I had to go two years without riding after having ridden and owned horses all of my life. Oh and get this, the first time I rode after my accident, I brushed the horse’s rump with my leg as I was mounting up and she started bucking. (My pelvis is messed up, hence the leg dragging over her rump)
I’m not sure I’ll ever be a confident rider again and that is devastating for me to acknowledge. I used to feel unstoppable on a horse 💔

I had my first fall and broke 2 of the thickest vetebrae in my spine and couldn't walk for 3 weeks, luckily all is healed and Im walking and back to normal now..... but I am disheartened that I had such an accident on my first fall. I don't know why I fell, we were in class riding without stirrups and I was riding a horse I had never ridden before and we were just trotting nothing special, my horse was very powerful and she tripped going around a corner and I just flew off like it was nothing. I dont know why it happened because I had 0 time to think it just happened, maybe I was too relaxed? I wasn't afraid enough? I dont know. I didnt expect the fall to be so bad I was even relaxed as I was falling as I figured falling comes with the territory when riding. I know I will get back to it soon because Ive wanted to ride my whole life and I finally started, and Im not ready to give up yet after only a year of riding.

I fell off at the beginning of April.. I don't remember it I was on a hack and I remember going down a slight incline then I was on the floor.. Still don't remember anything (its not my horse but it is a friend's), I fractured my tail bone and had concussion and again I don't remember anything that happened... I've not got back on a horse since but I really really want to but I'm terrified because I don't remember what happened

Once again, you seem to have read my mind! Your video timing is uncannny! It is coming up to the two year anniversary of my fall that fractured my pelvis. You have reminded me to think logically about why I fell - I was over tired, my horse was new, and I was trying to prove my (& his) worth! It really freaked me out yesterday coming around to “s” and I just had this huge flash back. But we stopped, reassessed, voiced the logic, and then broke it down to smaller increments. I’m not going to do 20m circles that bring me around to “s” on the right rein for a while. We will break it up with lots of smaller circles and different movements, lateral stuff, etc, until “s” isn’t so bloody scary again! Thanks again Tash and the team! Xoxo. J

This is SO convenient because last night I had my first real fall jumping. It was super dumb (I made really stupid mistakes. Completely forgot the strides and leaned forward super early as well as not encouraging the horse forward like I should.) Hit my head and shoulder, faceplanted on the sand, my helmet flew off and it was just so ridiculous. I just feel like the shittiest rider ever, and I've been riding for 7 months now. I should know that.
