Living just 4 blocks away I remember the Dunean Mill when it was in operation , my grandfather took us to have hair cuts at the old barber shop and we played basketball in the old gym . Yes , I remember they had santa clause and gave away christmas grocery bags to the all families loaded with sweet christmas cookies & cakes and children,s toys. Dunean was a family community and best times in my life.....

We found bottles and took them to duckworths on Saturday mornings. Walked there and to church on Sundays. 1970s. ❤ my dad worked for Dunean Mill for a while, and I grew up on Allen St. Yes, that place is special to my heart

Been living here for 43yrs now. Born and raised on Hale st. My mom and dad still live in the same house as my whole family still resides here on this mill hill. So many memories made here. I wish the times was as simple now as it was then.

I've been living on Blake street here in Dunean for 14 years now. I'm a lover of history, so I'm not sure why I waited so long to really dig into the past of this place. We've always had a clear view of the mill from our front porch. I wonder if they let people look around the place?

My dad and mother both worked there in that mill , my dad retired there in 1991? 33 years of service. He passed away 2 years after retiring. His name is James E. Watkins , some called him Jim, some called Gene and I called him DAD or DADDY. I sure do miss him.
As for as the textile Mills go lots of people hated them but you know it put food on our table, clothes on our backs. Now that the Mills are gone people miss those jobs. A whole industry gone.

Grew up at Duncan and could not ask for a better place to be a child because we knew everyone and if you should misbehaved you could be sure that someone would say if you don’t behave I will tell your mama ! The mill provided sports the year round , which I played what ever in season. I am thankful for Ward Williams,Tex (Don) Ritter,Bill Kerr, and Doddle Thomas (there’s others but I don’t remember who ) for all they did for me and the other kids..For information purposes, this was in late 1940’’S and 1950’S and I lived at 64 Hutchens Street

My Great Grandfather Henry Washington Coker lived at 14 Wallace St probably around 1915 and was a loom fixer in the mill.

I remember an old man named "Doc" in the drug store. Every time he touched money, he'd wash his hands.
