A little hint for hot pressed paper, which I love. Apply clear water, let it soak into the fibers, then reply the clear water. It will stay wet longer and make blending a breeze.
I have a little Paul Rubens hot press book and I love it. I often like to add coloured pencil or just use it alone, and hot-press works so well for this. Also, your painting is gorgeous!❤
My first set of watercolor paints when I got back into them about four years ago were a gift from my hubby--a palette of Paul Rubens in the pink palette. Still use it to do practice pieces, like in your workshops/classes.
Great video both of your works of art were outstanding. I have been focusing on watercolor tubes and watercolor pencils. Might need to pick up a set of pans.
Thanks for this review! I’ve been wondering about Reuben’s paints and papers. I’ve had some in my cart for a while, now I know I’ll probably love them! Great review!
I have tried PR watercolors both student and artist grade. I do love hot press paper better than cold press. I am happy you try out RP supplies this watercolor set in particular is very nice!
I always wanted to try hot-pressed paper, but I may not like it. I don't like cold-pressed Arches either; I prefer rough paper more. Beautiful drawing btw❤
I've had a travel set of Paul Rubens watercolors for a few years now and I really like them. they do have pigment information for their paints and I believe sell individual pans, so I'm pretty confident you can make a lightfast set out of them. that said, I'm a big fan of hot press paper, but its strength is in its ability to show tiny details with relatively minimal texture, so... delicate florals, portraits, etc. that said, I cannot remember if you tried it yet, but I would be curious to see your opinion on Baohong cold press papers.
I have not tried Paul Rubin paints or paper, but I have mostly been using hot press paper for the past year because I ran out of cold press and I've really grown to love it. For me, I tthink cold press is more enjoyable to use, but I like the end result of hot press more.
I agree, hot press paper is so hard to work with! Many nice people have given me an advice to try painting my florals on Arches hot pressed paper. So I did buy a pad of it about a year ago. And didn´t like it at all. I use it for mixed media now. I´ve decited I only use tried and true supplies from now on. Clearly many artist can do amazing pieces on HP paper. So it´s not bad.
i'm excited to see a hot press sketchbook, they are hard to find. painting wet-into-wet you are free to move the paint around and add more, that's the advantage of painting wet. Your painting turned out beautifully
Paul Reubens is an excellent affordable watercolor paint. The reason the browns or earth tone colors are weaker than the other colors are because they're natural pigments dye pigments or synthetic pigments I believe are a lot cheaper to get your hands on and create paint out of but since they're using natural pigments they're probably not buying the highest quality of that rock or mineral That's why they're a little weaker however it's not a bad idea to get this pallet and just by a great burnt umber a burnt sienna of your tube and replace it it's a great option
For cheaper papers I like to wet both sides and then let it soak between two plastic bags for twenty minutes. Once the paper is properly soaked through, even cheapo hotpress usually stays moist sufficiently long.
I just finished one of those sketchbooks and im going to be honest - it started fine but then frustrated the hell out of me. its ok for gouache but for watercolor only for 2-3 layers max, and the stiches started falling apart. the paper tears from every single tape i tried, not to mention masking tape. Its great for testing and quick sketches but its nothing for people who like being precious with their sketchbooks :(
And I definitely had one of the worst experiences with Moltow masking fluid pen. It is not regular masking fluid you cannot remove it I don't know why it was created but it needs to be destroyed and remove from all shelves immediately
Have you tried Paul Rubens watercolor supplies? Let me know below!

You have a nice history with the brand 🙂, I discovered them only last year I believe!

Thank you Jesse!
Hot press paper is best for botanical art work or other detailed art work.
Yes, thank you for sharing ! I love it for realistic hair painting too!
The colours - wow😍 it looks so magical, love it
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed!

I'm glad it's on point for you! Keep in mind the paper might seem to dry quite fast (if you're use to other types like me).

Thank you for sharing! I tried their oil pastels too and enjoy their products so far!
I only like hot pressed paper too, I can get far more detail.

Whatever suits you is great! I find I like hot press to paint hair the most.
What a stunning painting!
Thank you!
Loved the final painting on Arches ... seascape with big waves!
Thank you Ann 🙂

This is great! I noticed some artists do a fantastic job on hot press and other papers I personally don't get the best results on.
I loved the rock painting❤❤
Thank you for letting me know!

I also noticed that. Some artists perform so much better on hot press than others.
I bought PR cold press 100% cotton in loose 20 count 5 x 8 sheets... a great price!!! 🎉 $10 ... now 20% off!!!
Good to know, thank you for sharing!
Was this on Amazon? I’d love to get this for myself

Their HP paper is better for colored pencil work and very light application of watercolor, I find.
Thank you for sharing! I yet need to try watercolor pencils on them as it matches your description.
l peeled the name stickers off and reattached to the bottoms so l know what l have
That's a great idea! Thank you👍
