  • @deantitus9734
    @deantitus9734 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    In case you guys were wondering, after his near fatal car accident in the mid '80s, Rick Allen had to have a custom built drum kit to compensate for his missing left arm!! He now uses his right arm and both feet(barefoot, BTW) to create the necessary sounds that his left arm would have made.

      I love this band. They are the epitome of brotherhood. Drummer lost arm in car crash. They did not replace. Waited for him to recover and figure it out. Lost one to alcoholism. They still carried on. The newer member ( took place of super blonde one that died) got cancer. They waited around for him to get better. Did not replace. They are amazing. Love mostly the early stuff. Not the typical band that just replaces members when they have a crisis or they have issues.

    The opening of this song was created by Mutt Lang as the guys would screw around during recording. Instead of counting off to get them started he did the weird 4 word count, the band loved it and put it on the studio recording. During concert the drummer Rick Allen does it.

    I love the comment about the lighters, I'm 61 so this was very common, I've seen def leppard more than I can count, and the front row since 1983. What a culture shock fast forward to 2022, and I had to carry a clear bag of a certain dimension so your whole business was exposed, good thing I didn't have anything embarrassing in there, oh the humiliation! It was all worth it though because even in 2022 they put on a great show

    What I remember about the group, the drummer his arm in a massive car wreck. The label was pushing to have him replaced - the group took a year off to give time to recover. Spending their own money and helped design a drum set - digital drum pad and drum machine to aid in the limitations of having only one arm.
    I admire their loyalty to their drummer, even though I am not a big fan of their songs.

    Rock 'n" Roll Legends/Rumors have the guitar and bass player going under the stage during the audience participation break down and well lets just say that's where the groupies would hang during the show. There's one story that may or may not be true that one night a mother-daughter duo were partaking in the festivities under the stage as well. Ah yes, the good ol' 80's. \m/\m/

    In the round came from their stage set up. Their stage was in the center of the arena so everyone had a good seat since they ran around the stage wherever they wanted, and Rick Allen's drum kit rotated.

  • @spikegifted
    @spikegifted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Def Leppard is just legendary! The drum kit looked the way it did because Rick Allen lost his arm in a motor accident at the end of 1984. After leaving hospital, he want to his local drum store to try out various pads to allow him to replicate his drumming using his feet and his remaining arm. For many, he became a better drummer. The the drum sound in the Hysteria album sounded much fuller compared to the previous ones.

    Rumor has it during Rick’s drum solo Steve Clark and the others would go backstage to “entertain” the ladies.

    Check out Def Leppard - Wasted Live in Dortmund, Germany in 1983. Or Western Germany as it still was around that time. Steve Clark totally killed it on lead guitar. There are another version with Vivian Campbell but the Steve Clark version kicks ass. On TH-cam the concert are split in Part 1 and 2. Wasted are in Part 2. Time stamp in the description

    Besides kick ass music that these fellas made, a really amazing tidbit was keeping their drummer after he had that awful drunken car accident that ripped his arm off. They stood by their friend, & waited for him to heal & work out the simplified drumming for their songs. Any other super group (which they were) would have instantly found a replacement to do the drum work. But brotherly love & solidarity were at the heart these fellas staying together as "One for all, all for one"

      I don't mean to overshadow the sentiment of your comment (it was well said), but he wasn't drunk, just being a little reckless while trying to pass another car.

    I think if I'm not mistaken it was first used by Iron Maiden in one of their songs before Def Leppard. I don't remember the song but I think that's right.

    In the round meant a round stage in the middle of the arena, rather than the conventional stage at one end of it.
    And I want more cow-bells Rick.

    Rick Allen, drummer,lost an arm in a freak accident. Def Leppard cancelled the tour, until Rick learned to play drums with one arm. I saw them before this happened and after. It was unfucking believable. There was no difference in his play. I was 16 and I'll never forget it.
